My Pen~ It holds me back~ Does not move me forward~ Cries in my left hand, denying me over~ Locked into place the font colored black~ Unable to move due to ideas so trapped~ In a vessel as deep as a casket in ground ~ Surrounded by doubt like dirt in my head~ My ideas feel cold, dead and buried~ Unable to breathe life on papyrus so thin~ The fragility of thoughts feel taught and hurried~ No wonder my pen is unable to win~ Unable to produce necessary sound~ Like Mozart, Bette, Beatles, and Blues~ Words are like paintings, the colors and hues~ Oh, Rembrandt, Cassatt, Degas, and Monet, your brushes were poems on a particular page~ Eager to please the masses to see~ The them’s, the you’s, and even the me’s~ Be black or colored, edged, or round~ Whether lyrics or art, music, sound~ The words and images that leap from the page~ Create an author, her people, and her stage~ By: ~Deborah A.
