Good News on the editing front! I'm making progress on cutting down this word count! I started at 107k and I have it down to 103k. I have made it to chapter 14 of 24! I'm hopeful that i can trim off this last 3k in the remaining chapters.
Feeling hopeful!
In other news, I've made it past the halfway point in pregnancy and can feel the little one kick me all the time! it looks like i'm having girl number 3 <3<3!
Editing update!
I'm now editing chapter 10 of 24. This is probably my favorite chapter in the whole book so I'm excited to get into it! So far, I like my dialogue, I think it's the strongest part of my writing. I've noticed that I use too many filler words and phrases in my descriptions, but that's the point of editing, right? The bright side is that getting my manuscript to 100k or under will be doable, maybe even easy!

So I've taken a break from editing words to playing with cover ideas. I like what I have so far, I just need a title so I can format it correctly and add actual writing to it! (This is a photo I took manipulated in an image editing software on my computer). Do you guys on tumblr think it falls into expectations for romance or romantacy genre?

Finished chapter 7 and can now start chapter 8! I've been hacking away diligently :D Hope all the other writers out there are doing well, I hope to join you again someday!
I've hit the halfway point of the pregnancy, which is truly exciting. Also very painful pelvic muscles, especially after lying on my side for too long. I'm tempted to write a short about it because I'm aggravated 😂

Just a quick update. Line editing has officially begun. I got to finish the first chapter and I think it turned out stronger after line edits and is more concise 😃

I’ll start! Mine, to me, feels like "Seven" by Taylor Swift and the whole The Tortured Poets Department / Evermore / Folklore kind of atmosphere.
An abandoned swingset moving slightly in the wind. Salt in the air. Old pirate toys from childhood hidden in a box somewhere. Those little cabins you make under trees with blankets and sticks and absolute confidence in your engineering skills when you're seven years old. Driftwood. Fog near the beach in the early morning. The sound of waves at night when you can’t really see the sea anymore. Sand in your shoes. Half-finished letters in the desk, freckles after summer, tangled necklaces, bruised fruit, cold hands, the smell of rain on warm pavement, and the feeling of being sixteen and convinced the world is haunted and about to change.

Oh this is fun! I'm not sure. Mine is like sitting under a comforting blanket while sitting through a low grade hurricane. Lisédra knows she is safe with Q'uín but outside turmoil makes relaxing and enjoying hia company difficult.

Miniscule update:
Truly barely worth mentioning but I have successfully changed all my doc pages in scrivener to be the same font, font size, and titled correctly. Small thing just man it makes a difference to me 😁
Pre-editing done!
What the hell is pre-editing? I just mean I finished reading through the draft. I made minimal changes and by that I mean I just took notes and took off the two chapters that just didn't need to be there. For the most part it was just reading the book and being happy.
Good News: The parts that were supposed to hit, did! For the most part, things are alot tighter than other drafts. Instead of a whole rewrite I can do in fact just edit this time!
Editing News: I still need to reduce the word count by 7k and some of the relationship things need to be reordered.
Editing Casualty
Well, I've officially found the first big cut that I needed to make in this round of edits. I'm supposed to be not touching anything and just reading but this was such a glaring issue with such an easy fix (delete gone lol) that I just had to do it. It's not bad, in fact I like it and I love the character, but he literally gets no other POVs in the story and is barely present so while it is a cute look into Elvin life it is not essential to the story I'm telling. I'll probably use him for a short story or maybe for his own full-length story at some point and this would likely be the jumping off/starting point. Or at least some version of it.

Well well well. I am approximately halfway through the read through of my draft and I've come across some things.
1. I'm enjoying my story and things I really liked writing are still hitting the same! Woo!
2. My romance and friendship pacing is slightly off. Easily remedied from what I see so far so that's a plus!
3. My friend was right, random POV change in the middle of the story for no other reason than cool world building IS in fact jarring and will be nixed.
4. Least importantly and most easily fixed is that my male love interest's fixation on a potential promised (fiance to the non troll among us lol) is unnecessary when there is built in conflict with the society in general being already against their potential relationship
I've been on a break from writing. I like to give myself time between drafting and editing for my brain to forget things and read it with fresh eyes. I have been fatigued lately and not able to stay up late like I normally would. I have been getting a lot more sleep for very little actual rest. I have an almost 2 year old who still wakes up at night to nurse 😅 it's like all the months of late night writing has finally caught up to me and now that I got a bit of rest my body keeps demanding more. Anyways that's where I am on the draft so far.
So a little update about that fatigue thing....turns out I wasn't having too many late nights I was actually pregnant. And by was I mean AM pregnant. Again. With a third child. My second turns two on the 16th of April and she decided to start sleeping mostly through the night just in time! Love that kid! Anyways I'm starting the first read through of my draft so I guess I could say editing has officially begun!
