Frederick Valentich was an Australian pilot who disappeared under mysterious circumstances whilst flying over the Bass Strait. On the evening of 21st of October, 1978, Valentich was flying his light aircraft when he contacted Melbourne air traffic controllers to report that an unidentified aircraft was following him. He stated that the aircraft was moving incredibly quickly above him and had four bright lights on the bottom of it.

Valentich then began experiencing engine problems. When air traffic controllers radioed back to ask him for more information on the unknown aircraft following him, he simply replied "It's not an aircraft." Valentich was never seen or heard from again.
