the pounding inside her head starts dull, a quiet scratch inside her skull, eking down the back of her neck. then it becomes louder, and louder, and pierced by a constant beep, beep, beep. this is familiar, lara knows this because her body reacts in kind to it as if it were a known danger. the beeps get faster, her lids screw tightly to block out the lights as a strained groan presses past her chapped lips when she turns her heavy head away. god, she feels awful. right now, everything feels like an an effort, everything feels like a grate on her senses. so she's in a hospital, okay. now how did she get here ? why does she think she's been in one before ? something else cuts her waking haze, a voice, a tug on her hand that, until now, lara hadn't even realised she was connected to. she wills her eyes to open, the room slowly starts coming to focus, the blurry head of ashen blond and blue eyes slowly becomes stark, and lara realises he's the one holding her hand, calling her name. ❝ what happened ? ❞ her voice is broken in a thousand different syllables, alien, strange, the beeps get faster as her aching head turns again, looking around the room, and settling on her hand in his hand. she's unsure, at first, her reaction is stunted and she's unsure why, but eventually she chooses to pull her hand from his grasp to lay across her abdomen, and really looks at him, looks at him long enough that the beeps slow down again and lara's frustration builds as she shakes her head slowly, ❝ i don't remember what happened, i don't ... i don't remember you. ❞

It's been days, a week almost, since he'd received that call from the hospital. Informing him of Lara's condition after an accident whilst on one of her expeditions. Uncertain of the state she'd be in once she wakes up ( if she did ) . The woman was stable, that's the best they could tell him and anyone who asked how she was. The agent was there day and night when he could afford to escape the space of his office between work. Eager to be there when she woke up. And no one could tell him she wouldn't. He knew her better than that. Croft was a strong willed woman who didn't take defeat easily. That was one of her many admirable qualities and something that kept Leon's hopes higher than those around him.

Room was silent aside from the soft buzz of lights and beeps of medical equipment. He was seated just beside her, hand in unconscious hand, awaiting for something to stir. It was like his silent wishes were answered as the steady beeping picked up and expression on the brunette's face twists. Heart began to pick up in beat as he leans in closer, softly encouraging her awake, "Lara? Can you hear me?"

"Lara?" He prods again, studying her closer as those lovely hues finally open, straining against the light. It'd been far to long since he'd seen her gaze--- though he could already see the confusion and bewilderment etched into her features. She didn't remember. That voice so weak and uncertain, but it was hers nonetheless. It would be found again once she recovered. "There was an accident, I came here as quick as I could," he began to explain, ready to call in her nurse on shift so they could properly check in on her, "They said you hit your head...." Words trailed as their sights met. A sense of dread swelled in the pit of his stomach and it was then her slender hand freed itself from his own. Respecting her space he drew back his own hands, forcing that soft grin to stay where it sat upon his lips.

"I'm, uh, your friend. A close friend. Leon." That's what she needed right now, a friend, for now. As to not overwhelm her. Doctor's warned something like this could have happened. Yet nothing could have prepared the agent for it. Leon took the liberty to press the little button on the remote hanging off the side of her bed, calling for a nurse. Right after he's reaching for a water he had near by. "I... it'll come back to you. I'm certain, okay? A nurse will be here soon, you've been asleep for a few days, they're gonna want to check on you. How are you feeling? Think you could take a few sips of water?"

The knock at the back door of his home had him stirring instantly from his light slumber. Alert as he glanced at the time and read the ungodly hour in the morning it was. Still dark as and silent as night. There was an attempt to check the camera's he had installed at both entries of his home--- but of course, the net was down. Leaving him with a guess at best.

It was with a gun held in steady hand and mind shifting through the possible ways this could all play out as he made his way downstairs. Each step making the old stairs and wooden floors whine with age. Gunmetal hues lingered on the backdoor, taking a moment to study the silhouette that stood on the opposite side. Stuck with familiarity, Leon moved swiftly across the room, by mere stance alone his thoughts were ease. And there Claire stood. Looking a mess as new concerns rose.

"Claire, what happened?" Worry lingering in his words as he usured the woman inside. Scanning the back before closing the door behind them. Ensuring it was locked before attention was fully turned to his friend. Calloused hands were gentle as they searched her for injury. First-aid at the ready. Soft face was held, tired eyes flickering over her features. "I'm glad I was around..." he murmurs, finally pulling away with a sigh, "Gonna tell me what happened? I didn't even know you were in town."
