ilya constantly jealousybaiting shane is one of my top five favorite things about him, especially before he finally cracks & tells shane that he loves him . he’s like a big fluffy cat showing you his belly like :) so soft :) i kiss you so gentle & tease you & look after you :) & then shane reaches for the belly with fascinated reluctance & ilya goes SCRATCH >:3 what if i greencard marry my old friend i used to fuck more often than you >:3 & shane’s eyes go so wet & shiny & his jaw is clenched . & some raw, young part of ilya heaves a big sigh of relief to know that even if he can’t make shane love him, at least he can affect him . & then as soon as he learns that shane has turned the precise, devoted attention that makes him a legendary hockey player onto ilya he has that flash of holy shit . he is going to love me forever in a way that no one but my mother has ever loved me & i am never going to be the same . & every ounce of tension in his body just evaporates & he melts into a puddle under shane’s hands .
heated rivalry the past few weeks has been the best the internet has felt in almost a decade. just pure fun, pure vibes, pure jokes. its been so nice. i feel like we were all at a giant collective sleepover and it got the point of the night where everyone got silly and emotional.
Does it fucking kill you too? Not anymore.
Hollanov + season 1 timeline
Jacob Tierney delivering 4 episodes in a row with multiple narratively relevant, hot as fuck sex scenes & then episode 5 has NONE AT ALL and is still just as good in a way that is like… tonally & aesthetically cohesive?!?! But also introduces new elements such as our two idiot heroes actually communicating & comforting each other, the profound, heart-healing hope of Scott Hunter kissing Kip Grady on the ice, and me bawling over a man confessing love in Russian?
Unbelievable vision and execution. A generational talent.
now we’re cooking with gas…..
the part where they’re on the ice slamming each other and then cuts to them fucking
to anyone reading this: be proud of yourself for continuing on— even when you thought you couldn’t hold on any longer. I see you, I love you, and I am routing for you every step of the way.
who gives a shit if the heated rivalry actors are queer or not. if they're queer then good for them for getting to play queer roles and if they're straight but this cheerfully willing to have hot sweaty gay sex with other men on television for our entertainment then more power to them too. other straight men should take notes. whats the issue here again
this show has everything: mutual pining, secret relationships, jealousy, situationships, hot gay sex, emotional gay sex, the most intense eye contact you've ever seen, men acting absolutely crazyinsane towards each other, autism, unhealthy coping mechanisms, storyline pacing that feels like doing hard drugs,
#storylinepacingthatfeelslikeyouaredoingharddrugs #yep that's real
genuinely i do think it's crazy how this show hit every single mark for no reason other than pure love of the game. like this wasn't a money grab and it didn't think it would be a big success, jacob just read a book he enjoyed and thought huh i think that would be a cool thing to make into a tv show. and then he brought on hudson and connor and they're fresh and passionate and not bogged down by the industry yet and they instantly became best friends and wanted to just have fun bringing these characters to life. and they didn't have a huge budget but they did the most with what they had and everybody took the show seriously and everybody took the book seriously. the cinematographer worked his magic. the music supervisor managed to snag a well-known queer hit and an up and coming new release and old school gems that have been around since the 2000s. it's canadian to the core, built from the ground up. it takes russians and the russian language seriously. it uses sex in such a specific, meaningful way that almost no other show has done thus far, and especially not in a queer context like this. they interlaced every episode with callbacks and parallelism and self-references. they didn't take themselves too seriously. they took everything so seriously. there is love and care baked into the core of this show and it's deeply queer and it doesn't shy away from the horrors of toxic masculinity and hockey culture but it is also, always, a story of joy and love and happiness. and on top of everything, it's almost word for word, the original source material from the book.
like damn it's no wonder this thing has made us all insufferable and become a huge fucking success! so few productions in hollywood are doing it like this!!!
why can't i like anything a normal amount? WHY DO I LET THINGS COMPLETELY CONSUME MEEEEEE???
i'm not crying, you're crying.
