ᴍɪᴄʜᴀᴇʟ:
Michael did open his mouth to object, but he knew better than to fight with Selene. He nodded and ducked his head. “Yes, ma’am,” He said, stepping out of the room to the looks and glares from his fellow interns. Hands pressed up against his face and he moved to pack up against the wall. He should have been stronger. Since he had been in the accident, he had done his best to forget but it wasn’t easy. Nightmares were reoccurring and now it was affecting his work.
He could hear the scolding from just outside and he felt a little bad that he couldn’t help. Of course, he knew that she wouldn’t have let him help anyway. The others were basically using him as a shield from Selene. He knew the rumors and he knew how she acted, yet he admired her as a doctor and he wasn’t afraid of her. She was doing her job.
He heard them get dismissed for lunch and he moved to go step away to eat. He figured maybe getting food might help him relax after his momentary slip up. He breathed out a soft sigh and went to the breakroom to grab the lunch he packed himself. It was nothing special. He didn’t have the money for much, so he just packed a microwave meal.
Selene was in a foul mood by the time she sat down with her sister and husband in the lunch room, more stabbing her food with her fork than actually eating it. She was annoyed with all of her interns except for Michael, he showed promise. But the others had continued to slip up and let him stand in as a shield against her.
She made idle conversation after a while with Sonja, thanking her for sending one competent intern her way. “Michael shows promise, but the rest are rather useless.” Selene muttered and stabbed her food again, looking over the other tables and glowering at the interns that were tittering and looking over at them.
Selene did think it odd, that she didn’t see Michael sat among them. Perhaps he’d already eaten?
ᴍɪᴄʜᴀᴇʟ:
Michael was daring to let just a little bit of hope enter his heart that she was starting to remember their relationship and the love that they shared. Maybe that was a sign that they were going to be okay after everything that was said and done. He was going to try his best to be there for her through all of it, no matter the pain he went through. This wasn’t about him at all. He had to do what he could for her.
“I don’t think that’s true. I’m just not home as much as I could be.” Doctor’s hours kept him busy most days when his family was alone. He figured that was why his daughter always got so excited when he would come home. He always thought that Selene was the favorite parent. He could see it in her eyes how much their daughter loved her.
“I had a good teacher,” He hoped she realized that he was talking about her. She had helped him perfect his control so he could go back to work doing what he loved. He almost started laughing at her mention of needed context. Oh man, he could imagine her surprise at the memory. “I had just been bitten by a lycan. You were going to go speak to Viktor about what you learned, that Lucian had been alive, and I wanted to with you. You… kissed me to distract you and then you handcuffed me to the chair. Of course, that’s now how we met.” He did chuckle. “I was coming home to my apartment and you were waiting for me. You pinned me to the wall by my neck.”
“You are a doctor, are you not? The hours you keep are long, on account of you having to help save lives. There is no shame in that.” Selene’s scolding was an echo of how she’d usually tell Michael off for feeling guilty he was not home more often prior to loosing her memory. She knew from her memories shared with their daughter, that Eve loved her dearly but Michael was her favourite. Much like her in that regard, her own father had been her favoured parent.
She gave a partial smile, recognizing that he meant her. She was more interested in hearing the context behind the hazy memory of how they met, why handcuffs had been involved at all. Selene’s expression was a little unreadable at first, a glimmer of amusement in her eyes.
“I pinned you to the wall? Something tells me that wasn’t the only time I did such a thing...but later for different reasons.” She chuckled then paused for a moment, deciding she wanted to try something, “I remember...when I kissed you to distract you, you managed to distract *me* for a time. I can understand why, you’re a handsome man Michael. And a good one as well, a good father to Eve from what I can recall.”
ᴍɪᴄʜᴀᴇʟ:
“Of course it’s polite to ask, but it’s something you should know by now.” He teased as he pressed another kiss to her lips. It felt good to return back to her side. There were a few things he had to take care of outside the safety of the coven, but he wouldn’t leave her side again, not for as long as he could help it. “Any moment we’re apart I miss you, you felt it as well as I did.” He brushed her hair back, playing with the dark strands between his fingers.
He nuzzled against her neck next, nipping where his mark resided, reminding her that he was hers and she was his. “Please no, I don’t want to spend another night sleeping away from you.”
“I will take it under consideration.” She laughed, pressing her lips to his once more and relishing in the brief contact. She’d missed it, missed him. It was strange to her to think of how empty she felt when Michael was away, and how much more whole she felt when he was at her side again. She’d defected from her coven and turned her back on her entire kind for him, and she’d never once looked back.
“I know, I miss you terribly when you’re gone....it’s an itch beneath the skin that cannot be fixed until you’re back with me.” Selene let him play with her hair, resting her hand atop his chest and feeling the steady beating of his heart beneath her pale fingertips.
A shiver ran down her spine, the graze of teeth against the mark on her neck, she moved in close and grazed her fangs over the scar left behind by her own teeth so very long ago now, that claimed him as hers and had saved him from silver nitrate long ago, “I’m simply teasing Michael, I do not want to be separated from you any longer.”
ᴍɪᴄʜᴀᴇʟ:
Michael allowed for a moment to bask in the praise that Selene offered him. He knew that this was just because he was the only one speaking out, and in all fairness, he was just stating the basics. He allowed himself this one, before stepping back to work. He nodded at Selene in thanks before he took a deep breath. This was a little more personal for him than he cared to admit, but he couldn’t let past trauma affect him in this way.
He could feel Selene’s eyes on them when the rest of the interns finally started to go in and work on the patient, Raze. He observed for the most part, wanting to let the others maybe try and impress Selene for now. There was a part of him that knew he was just stalling, avoiding triggering his memory of his trauma, of his loss of his fiance. It was stupid to him, an aspiring trauma surgeon who couldn’t even work with a patient who was in a car accident.
He startled at the sound of Selene’s voice, and he glanced over to her, the surprise at her offer evident in his eyes. She had been called the vampire for a reason, but now, Michael couldn’t seem to figure out why. It was kind of her to offer him a moment of solace before he returned to his work. “I appreciate the offer, but I can’t be a scared kid forever, Dr. Bathory,” there was a waver in his voice, showing that there was something in him affected. “I need to be stronger than this.”
“It was a suggestion but now it’s instruction, I know the signs of trauma from PTSD Mister Corvin. Step outside for a moment, come back in when you feel more calm.” Selene instructed, her tone seemed cold and detached as she turned her attention from him back to her patient. She was called the vampire for a good reason, one that might show itself soon as she observed one of the other interns bungling the job of putting an IV into Raze’s hand.
“You intend to become surgeons and you are incapable of finding a vein? I’ve seen nurses fresh from school that can do better than you.” She scolded and took over, demonstrating proper technique then apologized to Raze for being treated as a pincushion by her interns.
Selene came off as cold and calculated, quick to scold when she saw them doing something wrong before she corrected the action. She nodded to the nurses to take Raze off to radiology, taking a moment to run her fingers through her hair to tie it back more tightly before she addressed the group and dismissed them for lunch, she was tired of being shadowed and wanted to speak with her sister.
ᴍɪᴄʜᴀᴇʟ:
Michael wanted to tell Selene all he saw that she was good at, not just slaughtering lycans, but he knew better than to say anything to her about it. He just let the information he was telling her sink in. He knew how hard all of this must have been with the inability to remember anything about them, having to trust someone she perceived to not even know but seemed to share a whole life with. It broke Michael more than he cared to admit. “You’re very good at it,” He agreed with a small smile on his face.
There was a brief look of surprise on his face when she said that Eve looked forward to him coming home and was happiest when both her parents were around. “Of course,” He agreed, thinking to his daughter for a moment. She always seemed to understand that he couldn’t be home all the time, but he did try for as long as he could to come home at reasonable times. he did a good job of it thus far, and rarely was he called in during the night.
“I know,” He figured it wasn’t the best thing to say, but it was true. There had been nights where Michael gently questioned her about her love for painting and found out why she stopped. He understood, but was glad she was in a place where she could return to doing what she loved. “Usually once a week, unless Eve convinces you to do it more often.”
Selene wondered idly if Michael knew, if he understood how much trust she was displaying by letting him tell her all of this. She appreciated when he waited and let her simply think on something and process it before he continued with his story. She had glimmerings of memories, brief flashes that were worth the pain they brought with them.
“She loves the both of us dearly, but you’re her favoured parent.” She recounted, looking amused for a moment. She didn’t feel any envy in her heart by that fact, like it was something she’d accepted a long time ago and it served to entertain her now. Eve was her daddy’s little girl, and it pleased the vampiress. She could remember Eve running up to Michael, and squealing with joy when she was lifted into his arms.
“I see...the noise and the blood...its overwhelming on a good day. You’re very strong to be able to tolerate that.” She complimented, truly impressed by his control. It was no small thing for an immortal, and was to be commended massively. “Can you tell me...how we met? I have a memory of kissing you and there being handcuffs involved, the context would be...appreciated.”
Apparently it’s national kissing day! You know what that means~
It means you can all kiss my ass

I thought it would be nicer (david)

“It’s the spirit world David...I warned you that you would not come out the same, and not to go in expecting to find your parents and be able to ask your late mother any questions. Why do you think I do not search for Michael any longer, since my return?”
It was quite simple, she’d found her hybrid mate in the sacred place and it had nearly broken her heart in two. Selene had always feared it, feared Michael was lost...and until tasting Marius’s blood she had hoped it wasn’t true. She’d returned stronger, with backup to save their people in the Eastern Coven and faced the most dangerous foe she’d ever fought in battle before. But Selene had lost a large part of her humanity upon her return.
“There is no nicer, only bitter reality.”
@halfvampirehalflycan from here
“It’s polite to ask, isn’t it?” She taunted playfully, “I missed you too Michael.” Selene was glad to feel his lips against hers again, his scent overwhelmed her senses and she felt an invisible weight lift from her shoulders. Being apart from her mate for too long hurt just as much as any physical wound could, she found herself pressing her lips to his in a hungry kiss.
They’d been apart for too long, she wanted to ensure that he knew he was hers and not let any younger woman get any ideas sniffing around Michael.
“You had better not leave for some time, unless you want to be forced to sleep on the couch.”
ᴍɪᴄʜᴀᴇʟ:
Michael wasn’t necessarily trying to impress Selene, although that would be a very appealing boost to everything. He was really just trying to do what he could to better himself in the future. Yes, she held his future in her hands, but he wasn’t going to bend himself over backwards to please her. He was going to do what he could, no matter the situation. He was going to od his job and be the best that he could possibly be.
His gaze moved as he skimmed the chart. He winced, although it was mostly shielded as he read about the injuries that the man suffered at the hands of the accident. He thought to his own accident, and he swallowed thickly. Now was not the time to show any form of weakness, not while he was on the clock.
“No, you ask about their pain and how their feeling, tell them what’s going on before you take them anywhere.” Michael pipped up, setting Raze’s charts back in the holder for them, wondering if the other interns were going to pick it up or if it would just sit there because the others were still spooked. He started to feel a little out of place in his confidence.
“Very good, Mister Corvin.” Selene praised, then fixed her attention on one of the other interns and beckoned them over, instructing the girl to check on Raze’s vitals and to ask him of how he was feeling. They were all clearly spooked by her, and she didn’t care. If they were too scared of her to learn from her that was their problem, they needed to grow a spine to survive as doctors in the future.
She stepped back and let them figure things out on their own, observing with her hands tucked inside her lab coat. She knew a little on all of the interns, their scores in medical school and a few personal details. She knew of the accident that Michael had been part of, she’d been called in to consult on his case but not specifically operated at that time--she’d been occupied with too many other cases that day.
“Are you alright Mister Corvin? There’s no shame if you need a moment.” Selene spoke softly, too softly for the interns to overhear her. She knew of her reputation. Doctor Selene Bathory, the vampire. Cold and emotionless, at least to the outsiders looking in. “It will not affect your evaluation if you need to step outside and get your bearings.”
ᴍɪᴄʜᴀᴇʟ:
“A lot has changed about the world, and especially since we have a daughter, you decided to avoid the dangerous world.” Michael was relieved. They had yet to run into a fully formed lycan pack, and those immortals that Michael ran into, just stayed clear of their home. He felt incredibly blessed. It was actually humorous, one of his coworkers was a lycan, and they were actually quite comfortable together. He never told the lycan about his family, but the two were at least good friends. “You decided to stick with work that you knew rather well.”
Michael didn’t really like it being called co-parenting, but he supposed that was what it was. “I suppose it’s kind of like it.” He frowned, rubbing the back of his neck. “I do the best I can with my crazy work schedule.” Michael tried to be home as best as he could, but he did work a lot as a doctor at the hospital. “Eve loves spending time with you,”
“The little you’ve told me of your past as a human, I remember you mentioning how you painted up until what happened.” he frowned, not wanting to bring up the memory of Selene’s family, not sure how rough that would be for her. “You do, sometimes. You’ll bring Eve and we go out for a little bit as a family, claiming we’re going for lunch.”
It was strange, to hear about a life she’d only briefly entertained in fantasies about what she might do when the war was over. Selene had always known at some point, one of the species would eradicate the other and then the surviving side would have to adapt to a new way of life. And for someone like her, who had been fighting for centuries, she hadn’t known what she would do. She’d had a family once as a human, before she became a talented killer....and now she had a family again. “Yes, I suppose that would make sense. Aside from killing....that’s something I’ve always been good at.”
Selene nodded her head, recalling the memories she had of Eve. She could recall many instances of colouring with their daughter, playing with her...watching her run to someone she figured must be Michael coming home from work. “She looks forward to when you come home, she’s happiest when we’re both home.”
“Yes...I stopped when I lost them. I was lost in my grief for a very long time.” She grew quiet, averting her gaze as the old pain rose back up to the surface. Centuries later, it still hurt for her to think of them. “How often do I do that? A lot of the hospital staff seemed familiar with me.”

ᴍɪᴄʜᴀᴇʟ:
Michel could feel her eyes on her, but he remained silent to that fact for the time being. He didn’t want to make her uncomfortable by making it open to her that he knew she was studying him. He caught her frown and his immediate reaction was that she didn’t like what she saw with him, that maybe she wondered what she had seen in him.
“You’re an architect, like your father.” His words were soft, not wanting to overwhelm her with knowledge at this moment. “You do work from home most of the time, but that’s your choice since you don’t like being around humans for long periods of time.” He wanted her to know that she was never a stay at home mom, but she did work. “I’m home taking care of our daughter the most that I can, that way it doesn’t fall to you all the time.”
He would work at wooing her as best as he could, and it broke his heart that he didn’t know if he would be able to do it again. He was afraid of losing her forever.
“Yes, once we settled down here, while you were pregnant with Eve, you began to paint again to distract your mind. I think you realized how much you loved doing it.”
“I became an architect? I never thought I would ply that trade again.” Selene remarked with soft wonder, tilting her head and listening to him with open fascination. She had a feeling, that he’d known she was looking at him earlier, but he’d let it slide and allowed her to look him over. Selene wondered how she’d wound up with such an attractive man as her mate, and one that had a good heart to go with his good looks.
“So we...co-parent her then, you watch her part of the time and I watch her the rest.” Her memories with Eve could fill in the blanks, she knew she wasn’t a stay at home mother, but that she did spend a great deal of time around her watching over her. Eve was unique, she was quite protective unless...unless Michael was watching over her she supposed.
“I painted all the time as a child, scribbling here and there when my father let me....I didn’t when I became a vampire. Vengeance consumed me instead.” Selene’s fingers twitch and she has a memory, of secretly drawing Eve and Michael while the two played together. “What else do I do? Do I ever visit you in the hospital?”
ᴍɪᴄʜᴀᴇʟ:
Michael was surprised at the hesitation from the other interns, but also understood their fear. Rumors spread between interns, saying that if you could impress Selene, or the Vampire as many called her, you would be golden for getting a job at the hospital, but there had never been anyone to impress her as far as Michael knew. He didn’t want to ask either, almost fearing her wrath.
He almost could sense the fact that she was impressed with him, but he doubted it, following her towards their first patient. He almost felt bad for the other two, as their fear was palpable. He knew that they most likely wouldn’t make it through this rotation easily, but perhaps that was indicative. If they couldn’t make this work, they would not be able to work in the field at all.
“Got it,” Michael seemed confident that he would be able to memorize these individuals. He knew it was relatively unlikely that it would do anything but he would try his best at least. When she held the chart out, no one else seemed to react so he moved forward and grabbed the chart from her, and immediately began to go over it so he could memorize the details. The word accident sent a jolt through his system, remembering the accident that he had been in not too long ago. The one that… he subtly shook his head, trying to not think about it.
Raze, motorcycle accident. Michael thought to himself trying to commit it to his memory.
Selene was impressed with Michael, because he didn’t seem to be terrified of her while the other two interns would likely fall over if she glowered at them for too long. She doubted that they’d make it through their first rotation, and wondered what they’d done to piss off her sister to be handed off to her for their very first rotation. But Michael...he didn’t seem to be scared of her and hadn’t done anything to annoy her yet, that spoke of potential. She’d trade notes with Kahn later and begin the betting pool of which interns would drop first.
She’s hardly surprised when he steps up and takes the chart from her, and lets the other two stand back looking terrified of her as she checks over Raze’s vitals and performs a few tests to check for a concussion. Selene rolls her head to crack her neck then turns on her heel, facing the interns with a cold look.
“Raze was involved in an accident, no signs of internal bleeding and concussion. Do we take him to radiology first?” Selene’s testing them, wanting to see what they know and if they know to ask the patient of how they’re feeling first and explaining what’s going on before they go anywhere. She knows that Raze’s shoulder is dislocated, perhaps a few broken ribs but his wrist certainly needs to be set. She’ll show the proper way to fix it all after.
