my favorite thing about sam seaborn is that everything he does, he does it with a truckload of emotion. he’s just so damn passionate about everything he does and 90% of the time he talks he sounds like he’s about to cry. i want to give him a hug and tell him he’s doing great
Characterization done right.
Steve Rogers in a single gif.
We joke about Steve’s patriotism as his strong suit, but his actual strength was his sense of moral right. His whole philosophy is summed up in the line “I don’t like bullies” in the first movie. Steve loves his country. He loves it enough to be at the front of the line trying to fix what he sees as moral wrong in it.
kehinki: #there isn’t even any indication he loves his country t b h#all we know is that he wants to fix what he deems morally impermissible#”I don’t like bullies /I don’t care where they’re from/”#that last bit is important
Steve Rogers is a full-time cosplayer for a character from a golden age AU popular with the United States fandom.
steve rogers is patriotic in the most real sense: he represents the concept at the core of the american ideal, the concept of freedom that is the reason our political system is designed to adapt and alter itself for constant improvement.
he is not loyal to any momentary leader or agenda, and when those leaders and agendas stand contrary to his core ideal of self-determination and freedom from oppression, he’ll speak up without hesitation.
honestly, i never would’ve thought captain america would be my favorite superhero, but he’s the activist i aspire to be.
Captain America is loyal to nothing but the dream.
100% TRUE
Pro tip: If you copy and paste a link that said “no free articles” into a private/incognito browser, it will let you read the whole thing.
also if u press the “esc” (escape) key on ur laptop before the page fully loads, it won’t load any pop-ups blocking u from reading. if the article has images, then this method sometimes does not u see them. but! the words will be fine :)
If the site is particularly badly designed, you might just be able to delete the overlay itself. Right click > Inspect element and delete the line of HTML (it’ll be highlighted automatically)
hey kids there is a website called outline.com that will let you read from pretty much any news site with a paywall for free
outline.com is amazing - it hasn’t failed yet on any site that I’ve tried it on.
There’s a chrome extension and firefox extension.
This was brought up in a different thread but I’ll say it again. This isn’t about you and how to get past the paywall by going to a different website or deleting lines of code. This is about your boomer parents and the information available to them. Is your granddad really gonna install an extension or is he just gonna read Fox? That is the point the original tweet is trying to make.
As a librarian, this issue is frustrating too. Because the recognition of grandparents who won't do the work rather than just reading the freely accessible is important. Lots of people have NO idea that libraries can help with the fight to access NYT and WaPo. Many both public and academic libraries have subscriptions to this type of publication but people just have no idea that they can use their library that way. And that is part of the fight for information literacy that we go through.
It’s been said before, but I am all for the idea that, to Snow, Katniss Everdeen was Lucy Gray Baird rising up from the dead to haunt him.
This small, dark-haired Seam girl, making a scene at the reaping. Drawing the Capitol’s attention in the parade, and in the interviews, and with her training score. Haunted by tragic love as she enters the arena. Singing to Rue as she dies, and adorning her body with a rainbow of flowers. Cheating the Games to bring her and Peeta out alive.
And then - unwillingly - figureheading a revolution. Being hailed the mockingjay - the very thing that Snow so hated, that he so passionately wanted destroyed. Refusing to relinquish her own agency, refusing to play the Capitol’s game by its rules. Singing The Hanging Tree, by the lake. Dancing with Prim at Finnick and Annie’s wedding, spinning around the room to folk music.
It must have felt, to Snow, like Lucy Gray (and a little of Sejanus) reincarnated - Lucy Gray, coming to haunt him. Coming to destroy his empire from beyond the grave. Taking her revenge, after all those years.
They said....
That She came from the seam.
That she had olive skin and black hair.
That she takes care of her sister.
That her father is no more.
That she made a scene at her reaping.
That she teamed up with her district partner.
That she sung in the arena.
That she won by cheating.
That she hated the Capitol
That she knew the lake.
That Mockingjays stopped to listen when she sung.
That she talked of running away.
That she was a rebel.
That she had come back from the dead to haunt him.

“I’m Adrian,” he said, holding out a hand. A Renegade. Holding out a hand—to her. “Welcome to the Renegades.”
Dogs playing a game. Rules are a mystery
for anyone curious both dogs are wanting to chase the other so they keep saying imma get you in dog body language to initiate one of them to take off but neither one wants to be the chase-ee so it’s just spin time babeey
We really don’t talk enough about how Artoo went into the desert to find Obi-Wan because no kid would be stupid enough to follow him into Tusken territory and then this kid chases him down and gets beaten up and his unconscious body is dragged back to his landspeeder and Artoo looked down and went “This one. This one knows how to have a good time.”
#he’d had adventures but really all those rebels were too cautious for him#he’d served Anakin Skywalker there was just no coming back#and then there’s this nerdy kid who kinda sorta reminds him of that guy#and then Obi-Wan says “your father wanted you to have this” and pulls out ANAKIN’S KRIFFING LIGHTSABER#and Artoo just EXPLODES because NO WAY THIS IS THAT KID??!#and he cross-references his old memory banks and THERE’S PADME NAMING THE KID “LUKE” THIS IS THE KID#THE WHOLE TIME HE WAS TRYING TO RUN AWAY FROM ANAKIN’S SON#NO WONDER HE COULDN’T ESCAPE#also no wonder he could fool this idiot to take off the restraining bolt#HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN#and he was ride or die forever#and about two days later he DID die#but he got better#so really WOW this guy IS the best#artoo detoo

It’s going to be a bad night.
Look, if it’s a real ghost, the busters get custody. If it’s just a real estate developer in a costume it’s out of their jurisdiction so we gotta hand things off to these meddling kids and their dog.
Hope called themselves the Renegades.
Joe continues to be a teacher and inspire kids and he plays with the jazz band every weekend and he’s happy, but he can’t help but occasionally wonder how 22 is doing and where she ended up.
And then one day, a few years later, there’s a new kid in his class. She’s snarky and sarcastic but is so full of life and she comes to class finishing a slice of pizza and when she takes things out of her backpack a bunch of helicopter leaves fall out, and Joe just lights up because he knows.
It’s her.
I think I forgot to add this when I had that ask about West Wing headcanons but Josh 100% does Big Block of Cheese Day in the Santos White House. He gives Leo’s speech verbatim (Sam asks if it’s written down somewhere but he refuses to answer) and yells at anyone who doesn’t take it seriously. Sam gets way with making jokes but he knows better than to call Josh out on his own history of mocking Big Block of Cheese Day in front of the staff. The first time he does it he texts Donna who runs over from the East Wing to watch (he also asks Donna if Josh has Leo’s speech written down somewhere and she also refuses to answer).
Sometimes I think about those high res Jupiter pics and then think about Van Gogh and get emotional because it’s like this one, lonely man that didn’t experience an ounce of fame or recognition in his life time had the image of the universe in his head and he didn’t know it.
Jupiter and Van Gogh’s Starry Night.
