IāM SO SORRY
I am experiencing love for the first time here, in quarantine. It is just me and my feelings, and theyāre so, sooooo many.
I never nearly thought it would be so difficoult to face this kind of emotions, even though everything in this world talks about love: every song, every book, every piece of art.
Sometimes I feel like the happiest and luckiest person in the whole universe, sometimes I feel like I will never be enough for the person Iām in love with. Sometimes I feel like crying all day, sometimes Iām so angry I feel like the need of setting the world on fire. Sometimes I canāt help but smiling and laughing.
In my mind there is room just for him. The first thing that comes to my head when I wake up itās him; I think about him all fucking day, I think about all the moments we have spent together, I fantasise about what will happen when weāll meet again. Every single glance, touch, kiss, dance, talk: I live them again and again every day. His face is the last thing I figure right before falling asleep. Probably thatās why I also dream about him very often.
I fell like Iām loosing my mind, like Iām going mad or something.
I donāt know if all of this is normal.
There are some days where I really, really hate myself. I feel like the stupidest girl in the world, absolutely ridiculous. A clown. Because I know, I KNOW that he doesnāt feel the same. I know.
Butyet Iām here. Drowning in my own tears.
yall ever heard about the wave
???? like the thing you do at sport events??
no, i mean this social experiment started by a history teacher in calofornia in 1967
im IntriguedĀ
itās creepy not so much like paranormal but as in itās a scary look at human nature. hang on a sec ill explain it
alright so. in 1967, a new history teacher at Cubberly High School in Northern California named Ron Jones was teaching his class about the Holocaust and Hitlerās rise to power. At some point during the lesson, many of his students began to ask why the rest of Germany had stood by and done nothing, and how afterwards they could have said they didnāt know. Many said that they would never allow something like that to happen, but most simply couldnāt understand how the population had allowed it back then. This made Ron curious: what was the answer? Why had so many Germans joined and tolerated the Nazis as their neighbors were dragged away? He realized there was no way of knowing, not without being there, and certainly no way of teaching it - unless, maybe, they could experienceĀ something similar.Ā
The next day, Ron came in and began to command his class differently than usual. He had stricter rules, making students stand when asking or answering questions and having them fix their posture. He said it was a lesson on discipline and the phraseĀ āstrength through disciplineā was written on the board.Ā
The students, shockingly responded positively to the stricter rules; it was as if they had just been waiting for this and wanted more. They worked as a team and answered questions correctly, even sitting quietly until Ron dismissed them at the end of class.Ā
In the next two days, the phrasesĀ āstrength through communityā andĀ āactionā appeared on the board. Ron announced to the class that their new rules and ideas were now the cornerstones of the group called the Wave. Their mottos were the three phrases on the board, and he introduced them to a salute (made by curling oneās right hand into the shape of a wave and tapping oneās left shoulder with it). The kids practiced both the motto and the salute that day.
Everything was going well in this experiment: Ron was increasingly seen as an incredibly important leader, the kids were being more well behaved, they were ahead in their studies, all good things, so Ron decided to continue the Wave. In class, he gave the students Wave membership cards, some of which had red xās on the back. The xās indicated that those people were to monitor the other members of the Wave and report directly to Ron if someone broke a rule.Ā
Additionally that day, Ron gave the instruction to recruit members to the Wave; all were invited and all were equal in the Wave.
And recruit they did.
Later that week, there were over 200 members of the Wave. The pep rally became an official Wave rally where dozens of new members were sworn in. As the group grew, most everyone joined. However, if someone did notĀ join, they were likely to find themselves very alone and possibly being threatened or hurt by Wave members.Ā
By the 5th day, Ron knew things had spiraled out of control. He had grown into a mythical leader, and the students carried out his orders without hesitation, even if these orders never existed in the first place and were grown from within the Wave. He decided to tell the students that there would be a televised announcement of the Waveās candidate announcement for the presidential election, and that all members should attend the rally later that day.Ā
When they arrived, the hundreds of students were greeted with a blank screen and Ron. He told them the true nature of the Wave; how it had been born as an experiment that had grown exponentially until he had to end it. The students were shocked, and some even cried. They had all believed in the Wave wholeheartedly after just 5 short days.
The Wave is terrifying because it is real. Not so long ago, a history teacher fresh out from college was able to turn a school into a military state in just 5 days.Ā We as humans are so easily led into fascist dictatorships and we so rarely question what goes on around us. The Wave is a testament to that, and a scary one.Ā
Thereās a really great German film of the same name (āDie Welleā - The Wave) based on this experiment - rather than stopping after 5 days however, the teacher lets it continue and things get much, MUCH worse. Itās a terrifying movie, but fascinating too.
HOLD UP
WERE YāALL NOT MADE TO READ THIS BOOK IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL WHEN LEARNING WORLD HISTORY BECAUSE IT WAS REQUIRED READING IN MINE
I went to school where they taught us slavery wasnāt the cause of the civil war they werenāt gonna teach me shit
For those who are just looking at an unsourced paragraph it seems to be well documented.
I watched this movie with my history teacher at school. I think that itās worth it to show todayās kids this movie in order to make them understand that totalitarism is something that even now, even in this century could easily find a way back.
Idk who needs to read this, but TEXT HIM FIRST GIIIIRL!!!!
Y'all. This is a fucking global emergency.
Some quick facts:
The Amazon rainforest is responsible for 20% of the world's oxygen. (**edit below)
It's home to numerous species of wildlife.
It is referred to as the lungs of the Earth.
And it's been burning for weeks, and no one is talking about it.
What is happening right now is an emergency that should be concerning all of us. The air we breath is at stake. This isn't exaggerating. Our lungs are destroyed as we speak and we are only just finding out.
This is our future. Are you upset about Spiderman? Same. Were you sad over Notre Dame? Same. But this is so much more important.
SPEAK UP. GET THIS KNOWN. Even if you can't do anything else, at least raise awareness to put some pressure out there on those who can do something. OUR HOME IS AT STAKE. The skies in SĆ£o Paulo turned black. We are losing our most valued rainforest. WE CANNOT JUST SIT BACK.
**Edit: Many of you pointed out how the 20% oxygen phrase can be misleading (and many thanks, don't want to misinform). So, to clarify, it means that the rainforest provides us with an amount of oxygen that is then used by living organisms to survive. It is not a surplus, however; its carbon footprint is neutral because all this oxygen is used up. However, it remains essential, because, without it, we are left with less oxygen to sustain the organisms living now, which means some organisms will die. Also, without the forest, we will have fewer sources that absorb carbon dioxide, so greenhouse effects will be more pronounced. Many thanks for pointing this out.
If you want to help, I have reblogged a list of links with ways to help. Will keep it on the top of my dash for the next days.
