I do think that if you like AC1 specifically, you gotta read Alamut or you're missing out. it's very different from Assassin's Creed but the bones are definitely still there and it's just really incredible in its own right, though mind you it is quite dated given it's a book from 1938. still quite good though.

they're both the 'Old Man of the Mountain' of Assassins, highly charismatic, manipulative, and cunning old men who use their death cult to systemically eliminate their enemies. but it's the tone with which they do it that makes all the difference between them: AC1's Al Mualim is a good enough villain, but Alamut's Hasan is a fucking freak.
