you've seen the jokes. india is "dirty", indians are "everywhere", why don't they fix their own country. ok. let me tell you why, and what's happening right now while nobody's watching.
first, the history you skipped: britain ruled india for two centuries and drained it. economist utsa patnaik's research estimates around $45 trillion in today's money was taken. the india that got independence in 1947 was one of the poorest countries on earth. every "why is india like this" question starts there. you don't get to profit off a robbery and then mock the crime scene.
now, what's happening RIGHT NOW:
in may the question paper for NEET leaked. that's the national medical entrance exam. over 2.2 million students took it. cancelled. years of studying, families' savings poured into coaching, gone overnight because someone sold the paper. students died by suicide after. these were kids who wanted to be doctors.
and out of that came a protest movement. a gen z group called the cockroach janta party, started by a 30 year old named abhijeet dipke, got 22 million instagram followers within DAYS. they've been doing a sit-in at jantar mantar in delhi demanding education minister dharmendra pradhan resign.
and then there's sonam wangchuk. if you've watched 3 idiots, he's the real engineer the character was based on. built solar schools in ladakh. invented ice stupas so himalayan villages have water. spent his whole life on education. he's 59 and he's been on hunger strike for 17+ days now. reporters went to see him this week and he was too weak to talk. and the troll armies are calling him "anti national" and "foreign funded". a man starving himself for other people's children. that's the thing here, anyone who asks a question is suddenly a traitor.
it's not one incident, it's everywhere you look:
• infrastructure worth thousands of crores failing within months of the ribbon cutting. tunnels collapsing in regions where heavy rain is a guarantee, not a surprise.
• youth unemployment near 10% for ages 15 to 29, 13.6% in cities. in a country of 1.42 billion where more than half the population is young.
• only about the top 3% of indians earn above 10 lakh a year. meanwhile billionaire wealth keeps ballooning and the headlines celebrate it.
• manipur burned for over two years. an ethnic conflict, tens of thousands displaced, and the prime minister barely said the word manipur while it happened.
• journalists raided. critics' houses bulldozed. activists sitting in jail for years without trial under laws like UAPA. our press freedom ranking has cratered.
• even the petrol is a fight now, ethanol blending pushed through while drivers complain about their engines and get no straight answers.
and through all of it, the PM, who came to power on religious polarisation (americans, sound familiar?), travels abroad for photo ops and has not held one single open press conference in over a decade. not one.
what i'm asking:
if you're not indian: share this. our media mostly won't cover any of it because the big outlets are owned by the same billionaires the government serves. the only reason wangchuk's fast is getting any coverage is people refusing to look away.
if you ARE indian: speak up even if you're comfortable. especially if you're comfortable. join the protests. add to this, correct me, translate it. staying quiet is a choice when nothing in this post touches your life.

I don’t mean to trivialize psychosis by making a weird comparison, but this guide also serves as a handy checklist for helping someone through a bad drug trip. In both cases your number one priority is to get the person through whatever they’re dealing with unharmed.
i don’t think it’s trivializing at all, nor a weird comparison—as a psychotic person who has had psychotic episodes inadvertently triggered by drug use and/or worsened while trying to self-medicate with drugs, i think this is an important addition.
people who don’t watch horror movies are SO confident that they know everything there is to know about the genre. like it’s okay to not know things. it’s okay if you don’t like friday the 13th or whatever. i promise you don’t need to make an ass out of yourself on the internet about it
horror is an incredibly diverse genre, because there is potential horror in everything. it’s in nature, it’s in architecture and technology, it’s in human relationships, it’s in folklore, the past, the future, the mundane. there are horror movies from all over the world. it is straight up anti-intellectual to pretend that the handful of B slashers you’ve vaguely heard about comprise the totality of what horror has to offer. If you’re just not interested in horror, or if you dislike certain subgenres of horror, then that’s fine, you’re not obligated to like anything at all. but smugly announcing that you don’t like horror because you dislike a handful of VERY specific non-universal tropes is just as stupid as saying that you hate comedy because you don’t like adam sandler movies.
Pink Floyd - The Wall and My Expectations of Canto X
"The prisoner who now stands before you was caught red-handed showing feelings, showing feelings of an almost human nature"
Disclaimer: I am deeply fucking stupid. Please do not expect deep understanding. This is not analysis of The Wall, this is correlating The Wall to Meursault. Which requires some analysis of The Wall but I WILL miss deeper (and probably most surface-level) themes.
This entire discussion was sparked by this small point in the Trivia section of N Corp. on the Limbus Wiki, which has since been removed: "Due to the themes of indoctrination and the fact that the wing is mostly known for its education system, the usage of hammer as an icon may be a reference to Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'"
Yes, as someone else pointed out, the Wing is technically not stated to be known for its education system; however, from what little I knew about The Wall, it seemed ever so similar to Meursault and N Corp... So I watched it. And, oh boy.
I think... I think PMoon might be referencing it?
Let's start by addressing what was said in the trivia section.
The school system: similar. We know that N Corp. has harsh schools with a lot of pressure on people, to the point that, in Distortion Detective, an entire Location-type Distortion occurred in an N Corp. school. Interestingly enough, in the book, Meursault in the book notes that he realized his ambitions were pointless soon after he had to drop his studies, although we are not told the exact reason.
So, connecting those two facts, we can say that in Limbus Company, Meursault might have failed his studies in an N Corp. school, which led to him losing abilities and repressing himself.
Similarly, in The Wall, the schools are depicted as awful places, traumatizing people, in particular becoming one of the "bricks" in the metaphorical & eponymous wall of the main character - Pink (Happiest Days of Our Lives/Another Brick In The Wall, Part II).
Connecting that with the fact Meursault seems to have a wall of his own around himself? It's interesting. Certainly could be intentional. It could mean nothing, though, and all 3 could be commentary on the oppressiveness of the school system
The logo: look above. It's obviously similar; however, to play devil's advocate - you can either place a hammer and a nail side-by-side or cross them, it could be a coincidence.
The indoctrination: N Corp. obviously has that, especially the Inquisition does. Now, in The Wall, this is interesting; to my interpretation, Pink, having locked himself in a hotel room, started either watching programs about the war (if taking the tv literally) or thinking about the war (if taking the tv metaphorically), in the end result, in his delirium he starts hallucinating himself as a fascist dictator at his concert (he's a rock musician). He wears emblems of the logo with two hammers pictured above, which, I mean, it's very easy to figure out it references the nazi cross, right?
Regardless. The Wall has themes of indoctrination and society molding people to the same standard, right? Again, the similarities could be a byproduct of both things depicting fascist/authoritarian places. I have nothing more to say about that
Now, in regards to Meursault himself... I feel like Pink's story may be similar to what his story ends up being.
Let's do a beat-by-beat correlation of the album/film to Meursault.
In In The Flesh, Pink says the following:
"If you want to find out what's behind these cold eyes
You'll just have to claw your way through this disguise"
I feel like this also describes Meursault and how he keeps his true feelings hidden, not paying attention to them even himself.
In the songs "The Thin Ice", "Another Brick In The Wall, Part I" and "Mother" we learn of Pink's relationship with (or at least perception of) his parents. His father died in WW2, and his Mother later became overprotective, and it seems like she instilled her own fears into him. Both his parents were bricks in his wall.
In the book, we know Meursault's father was absent, and he seems to have gotten the idea that marriage doesn't matter from that, at the very least; and his Mother, as well, told him that "one gets used to anything". and how she "doesn't expect much of others", perhaps instilling ideas that led to him becoming isolated and the way he is in the book - also building up his own wall. Oh and, timeline-wise, it's possible Limbus Meursault's father died in the Smoke War, though that could change things somehow.
Over the next few songs, Pink builds up his wall; we see his wife, who he is very mentally detached from. His wife eventually cheats on him (due to his neglect of her), becoming the final brick in his wall.
This is where Meursault's story diverts, but I can still see it either literally (Limbus Meursault may have Marie cheat on him, which may lead to his Distortion) or not so literally (after Meursault get imprisoned/exiled, Marie can get with someone else; much like in the book Meursault points out Marie, not wanting to be with a man on death row, could be "kissing another Meursault"). This could also just be a difference, where for Pink the final brick is his wife's infidelity, and for Meursault it could be him dropping his studies or not being able to support his mother?
In Another Brick in the Wall, Part III, and Goodbye, Cruel World, Pink Floyd finishes his wall. In the film, he locks himself in his hotel room and has a breakdown.
In Hey You and Is There Anybody Out There, Pink seems to realize the implications of his isolation, and seems to regret it. In Nobody Home, he relays the things he has left, but points out his loneliness. In Vera, a war program comes onto the TV... Then there's Bring The Boys Back Home which I believe the title of is self-explanatory? The war type shit.
After this song, I believe, nothing is real. Or rather, it's all just happening in Pink's head.
Here, notably, in the film, we see what seems to be a hospital that child Pink wanders into, while traversing the trenches of war. He finds a straitjacket (I think) and a seemingly insane adult Pink who scares him away. This is metaphorical for Pink going insane and straying farther from the innocence (?) of his child self, probably, but the thing is, the hospital reminded me of a certain background which belongs to a certain Abnormality who has a lot of parallels with Meursault. I will not elaborate for now.
In Comfortably Numb, Pink's manager breaks into his hotel room, resuscitates him from his immovable state, and drugs him. Again, I do not think this is real, or at the very least it might just be Pink being taken to a psychiatric ward which he takes differently considering his state.
Back to Meursault (still remember him?). We do not know of his connection to Canned Experiences... But, after his crime, he COULD have been drugged. It is a theory I've had for a while. So, if they will be referencing The Wall, Meursault getting drugged might reference Pink getting drugged. This is why I titled this post "My Canto X Expectations" btw. It's mostly "I watched this film and I think Meursault's Canto paralleling it could be cool"
Pink is dragged to his concert, where he decides that "The Show Must Go On"
If I was wrong and the last few songs weren't Pink's delirium, it definitely starts to be delirium now.
Back in the very first song, which chronologically takes place after The Show Must Go On, we see Pink, in the flesh (get it that's the name of the song), performing at his concert dressed in a nazi-like uniform, wearing an armband with the hammers from above ("we’ve used the hammer as a symbol of the forces of oppression if you like"). From In The Flesh (reprise) and up to Waiting For The Worms, he starts spewing outwardly fascist shit. This is a representation of how, having been treated like shit in his life, he becomes hateful and violent and hurtful to those around him, as well as the indoctrination from before. I think so, at least.
Meursault says he had tried to form an opinion on N Corp's fascist ideals, but did not come to a conclusion. This may imply he may or may not have some hatred settled inside him as well. There's a parallel between Pink's fascist hatred and Meursault seemingly sympathizing with N Corp's ideals. Perhaps Meursault may also have hatred as a response to how he's been treated?
Anyway, in Stop, the drugs wear off. Pink starts fighting against the hatred in himself. He says he wants to "take off the uniform, leave the show" - perhaps, in his delirium, to stop with the fascism bullshit, and in reality, to stop performing (if he really is performing and not still back in his hotel room). We get the "I’m waiting in this prison cell because I have to know, have I been guilty all this time" lyric that foreshadows The Trial.
For Meursault? I don't know. I think this may be represented in him desiring to stop being walled off from others, or maybe him finally denouncing N Corp.'s ideals. Regardless, he's in his prison cell more literally than Pink, either awaiting his first trial (after which he becomes exiled), his second trial (which will happen in Canto X), or awaiting his own mental trial of himself.
Hell yeah the trial my favorite part of the album.
Pink puts himself on trial and he is confronted by an imaginary prosecutor, his imaginary versions of his schoolmaster, his wife, and mother, as well as an imaginary judge.
The trial is held for "showing feelings of an almost human nature". For Meursault, this likely will be represented by the fact he committed his crime in a Distorted state, Distortion being a display of trauma that is impossible to ignore.
The schoolmaster berates him, saying he is no good, and if things were to be his way, he would've violently molded Pink to be different. For Meursault, this may be represented by either a real teacher of his appearing as a witness, or may be not literal, or may not happen at all, I want to by all means be clear I don't think this will all happen I just think it would be cool and it's interesting to think about. Regardless, think back (or read back) to the part where I talk about N Corp. schools.
Pink calls himself crazy and throws in some childish metaphors. I don't think this will happen with Meursault, he won't like, plead insanity. But... Who knows what insane character this could connect to alternatively? Wink wink.
Pink is then berated by his (imaginary) wife, who points out how emotionally distant he was from her. Meursault is, too, distant from Marie, Think back to what I said about Marie potentially cheating on/moving on from Meursault, and how that might have an impact on him
Right after we get a verse from Pink's (imaginary) overbearing mother. She's overbearing, yeah, and babying her son. Think back to what I said about Meursault's mother. I do think she's quite the opposite of Pink's mother... But still a brick in the wall.
We get another verse of Pink calling himself crazy.
The judge (the worm) gives this sick verse:
The evidence before the court is incontrovertible
There's no need for the jury to retire
In all my years of judging, I have never heard before
Of someone more deserving of the full penalty of law
The way you made them suffer, your exquisite wife and mother
[two lines omitted. look the song up if you want. cry about it]
Since, my friend, you have revealed your deepest fear
I sentence you to be exposed before your peers
Tear down the wall!
Pink sentences himself to tearing down the wall, having deemed himself guilty of hurting people around him with his distance, also hurting himself in the process. For Meursault, I think this might be represented by either of or both of two things:
In the real trial, he is sentenced to die in the name of N Corp., "deserving the full penalty of law", and, like in the book, blamed for the death of his mother at least metaphorically, hence "the way you made them suffer..."
In the trial in his head if that does happen, or perhaps as a result of Dante's stuff, he also comes to the conclusion that he should tear down his own wall and stop being so distant from his emotions and from others, along with resolving his problem with passing no judgement
We then get the track Outside The Wall... Which loops us back to the beginning of the album.
That's all for the corellating the progression of the album/film to Meursault
But also, remember how Meursault's color is called Decay Blue? In Hey You, in the middle of the album, we get the lyric "And the worms ate into his brain", connecting Pink to decay as well (worms and themes of decay make a lot of appearances in the album) (and btw we have another character connected to one's brain rotting and Meursault both. so)
So... not saying that's intentional. Not saying any of the similarities are intentional or that it will be similar at all. But that would be cool, aye?
