The beauty of the sport of powerlifting is that it teaches patience and persistence - requiring that you put in the work day after day, month after month - before you are able to claim your reward of newfound strength. In a society where instant gratification is everything, powerlifting remains a wise old teacher of patience and discipline, because only those who can subdue their ego and take the long-term approach are able to remain healthy long enough to make a name for themselves in this sport. And for those who are willing to pay the iron price, they are rewarded for their efforts. With @neoneyed_ out of the gym at the academy for 12+ weeks and with our boy @basavagedensmore from @uncivilizedstrength pulling 600 at Deebo a few weeks ago, I decided it was time to come out of retirement and start moving some weight again. Here's a special strength exercise we came up with for @billdrum @mike.torsiello and @antwangolson_ to teach hip extension in the drive position while hypertrophizing (yup, that's a word) the glutes and proximal hamstring. Supersetted these with an alternating leg bounding drill from a 40-start stance to help athletes mentally connect the exercise to a sport movement. In the future, may experiment with PAP and couple this drill with various bounding and jumping for distance to see effects on performance. #DeeboTrainingSystems #WeBuildChampions #Speed #Power #Explosiveness

It was a helluva weekend for us here at Deebo, which saw us host our very first unsanctioned charity meet - Winter War - with the @uncivilizedstrength crew. Many of our athletes stepped outside their comfort zones (shout out 5am crew! 💪) and onto the platform for the very first time, while some vets were out crushing PRs and setting state and national records over at #RPS NJ States and North American Championship. A slew of congratulatory acknowledgements are in order over the course of the next week or so, but I couldn't think of a better way to kick it all off than with this clip of 9-Year-Old Logan G. - an athlete in our Youth Athletic Development program - crushing his 65 lb. deadlift opener. He later finished with a clean 100lb. 3rd attempt and totaled 220 lbs. on the day. How awesome is this kid? 😂 More to come soon. According to @chrisabeardsley at S&C Research, "..strength may be specific along the force vector, such that exercises involving horizontally-directed force production MAY transfer best to horizontal sporting movements." Alas, here is DTS athlete @connorholm3s grinding through some heavy ass sled drags in preparation for the U.S. Army National Combine in San Antonio, TX in January.
