lalala this'll either get way too much traction or none at all but here goes nothin, i guess
i'm in the process of writing a blog post for my university about transandrophobia/transmisandry/anti-transmasculinity, and i'm wondering if anyone here (transmascs!!!!!) would like to share their experiences with or any thoughts about it?
Im not always transmasc (afab genderfluid) so I hope im not the wrong audience however:
When I had long hair and was pretty “obviously” afab I unfortunately had a lot of weird experiences with random strangers in public (nothing terrible but like catcalling and some uncalled for physical contact, which was weird cause I was younger than 12 but anyway)
Then when I cut my hair short age 13, I looked pretty much like a 13 year old boy (I never wore make up or dresses or anything and most clothes especially my school uniform didn’t show my boobs or anything) and the weirdness I encountered genuinely stopped, it only came back more recently since my hair has gotten a little longer and I’ve started wearing more make up/more tight fitting/revealing clothing whatever
So my point is yes I agree that *passing* trans men are probably less likely to experience sexist shit like that on the street, obviously the above has less to do with my actual gender and more with how people perceive my gender (I’m also not at all trying to diminish the experiences of passing trans men at all, just basing my conclusion on my own experiences)
Now obviously I don’t think this means that trans men are less oppressed than trans women, which seems to be the prevailing thesis of transandrophobes, and I think that’s kinda stupid cause as soon as it’s not some random person on the street, people care a lot less how they perceive you physically and more how you identify etc.
I’ve seen people say that transmascs are centred but idk what people mean when they say that? Cause the vast majority of stuff I see in the media about trans people is like “men want to go into women’s sports” “men want to use women’s bathrooms” (transphobic bs that targets trans women). Obviously this isn’t exactly centring trans women as much as it is targeting them, but my point is more about media coverage in general - it focuses on trans women because it’s trying to vilify them by fearmongering, and it’s hard to fear monger against trans men if you believe they’re just “confused little girls”
When talking about transandrophobia there’s two sides (imo) - from people within the community, and people outside the community.
The outside one is very “they’re just confused little girls” (when it’s teenagers), “you’re just a tomboy” (when it’s young kids - teenagers), “are you sure you’re not a butch lesbian” (teenagers and adults), and “they’re trying to cut your daughters’ boobs off” (when it’s adults). Imo when you compare this to these people’s views on trans women/transfers it’s objectively sexist
Like if you think biological sex = gender, and you think trans women are just men trying to assault women, and you think trans men are just confused little girls, you objectively think men are violent and women are infantile and confused. It pisses me off to no end when people like this claim to be feminists
Then when it’s from within the community there are many forms as well. Theres stuff like “trans men are just lesbians who don’t want to be gay so they transition so they can be straight” (this is probably the dumbest argument ever imo cause like gay trans men very much exist and also not to diminish homophobia but in this world we live in right now why would someone transition so they don’t have to be gay?).
Then there’s the whole “oh well all men have privilege over women so trans men have privilege over trans women so therefore…” and this also is lowkey dumb cause yes cis men have male privilege and as I said earlier, people perceived as men aren’t gonna be assaulted by people who want to assault women, but trans men are no where near as privileged as cis men, and both trans men and trans women face their own problems, some similar some different. We are stronger together than we ever will be apart.
There’s stuff like “trans men have it easier because medically transitioning ftm is easier/yields “better” results than medically transitioning mtf”. I understand why someone may feel this way (as a genderfluid person I often have jealousy of binary trans people who have an “end goal” while I will never have a body that I’m always comfortable in), however those are my own feelings and it is objectively jealousy and something that when I recognise it in myself I try to remind myself that those aren’t helpful things to think. If a trans woman thinks “I wish I could take a hormone and get a higher voice like testosterone does for trans men instead of never being able to have a non dropped voice” or whatever I think that’s a perfectly valid thing to feel, but if they then let that cause them to think all trans men “have it easy” in some way and let that jealousy lead to anger towards trans men, that is bad. (Insert Yoda quote jealousy leads to anger anger leads to hate hate leads to the dark side)
There is loads more I could say (like the misogyny trans men grow up with and experience before, during, and after transition, the idea of owing people masculinity, etc) however I realise this is already so long.
I hope this is somewhat helpful/what you were looking for?
And I apologise for formatting I was ranting for most of this
this is exactly what i was looking for yes, thank you sm for your point of view!!
i could say so so much about your points / add on but to your point about 'medically transitioning as ftm is easier/yields better results' is something i wanna add to– i know you're parroting a terf/etc argument as an example but fuuuck, medically transitioning with testosterone is SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult. testosterone, in a lot of countries, is a controlled substance. i.e., ILLEGAL, in many senses- you cannot bring it across borders, and getting your hands on (the small amount they allow at a time) takes sooo much documentation and paperwork and TIME.
lalala this'll either get way too much traction or none at all but here goes nothin, i guess

Fuck it at this point can y’all actually start supporting indie animation and indie games made by black artists/creators because I’m really getting sick and tired of everyone hyping these racist phase mediocre white people that get 90% of their humor from 2000s newgrounds animations
kissing practice (ft. GAY PEOPLE (me n the bf hii SMMORCH!!!!!))
finally remembering your face :]
You know what? Forget the discourse. This is no longer my hill to die on.
You wanna ship canonically aspec characters because “aro/ace people can still date/have sex”? Okay, then. LET’S DO IT. I wanna see an aromantic character with an alloromantic love interest. I wanna see that confession of undying love and the moment when the aro character says they will never feel the same way—not romantically.
I wanna see the asexual character with their allosexual partner. I wanna see that moment when the ace characters tries sex with their partner for the first time because they want to make them happy only to realize that they are 100% sex repulsed.
I wanna see the two demiromantics who don’t even know if what they feel is romantic attraction, but they adore each other and just want to make healthy snacks together and destroy each other at Mario Kart.
I wanna see the two aces who love sensual affection and are figuring out what they define as sexual or not.
I wanna see the romance + sex neutral aroace who happily and consensually does whatever makes their partner happy…but their partner still struggles with feeling undesired.
Oh, babe. You thought shipping an aspec character would be just like shipping an allo character?
grossed is such a weird way to describe how much a movie makes. how much did this movie yucky
i think humans are so wonderful
