even besides mob being an amazingly written autistic character intentionally or not all of the main characters in mob psycho are detached from reality because of their lack of connections with other people. mob has no friends outside of his boss and his relationship with his brother is strained, reigen’s immersed himself in capitalism’s definition of success/worth so he’s completely cut off from other people, teru has delusions of grandeur because he’s 14, ritsu can’t develop strong bonds with others because everyone has a preconceived and inncorrect notion about who he is, and dimple is a ghost with a god complex. irl youll always hear about how capitalism and social media and the expanding world has estranging effects on people, and this shows bc its so hard to find a person who hasn’t been isolated and their self perception warped to some degree from their inability to connect with others, whether due to internal or external variables. everyone can relate to this, and so mob psycho projects this modern universal problem into its narrative in order to speak to a modern audience.” it’s discussed gently enough that you never feel insulted but you still know mob’s emphasis on depending on other people is something you need to take to heart.
