thinking about the relationship diluc has with his delusion is actually something that can make a boy go so fucking insane. he throws away his vision and then relies on the object that caused his father's death for the next three or four years. he gets used to its presence and its power. he becomes dependent on it. it never backfires on him like he knows it could have. like it should. but it affects his mind. there's a certain pull it has that he can't explain and he refuses to look deeper into it because he fears that will make it real and not just something he's making up in his head. he slaughters countless people over the years using it. he barely escapes death at the hands of the harbingers. it's his wake-up call, and he knows that he needs to go home.

he returns home and gets his vision back. he eventually hides the delusion away. he locks it up in a place that makes it a hassle to retrieve because he fears that if it were easily accessible he wouldn't be able to resist using it again. he feels its phantom weight on his hand and has to scratch until he breaks skin to get it to go away. he paces in his room in the middle of the night going back and forth with himself that he doesn't need it. he doesn't need it anymore. he's not in snezhnaya he has his vision now he's back home but he needs the control it provides he needs the power it kept him alive it killed so many people he killed so many people but they were fatui but they had families he needs it he doesn't need it—

he never tells anybody about this.
