The way they are written has me in a chokehold. So incredibly sincere, so desperately intimate and gentle. Every movement of theirs? every expression of their love is so tender.

Natalie had one foot in the grave from the first episode, until travis and javi beat her to it, "wait for me im coming too" is natalie and the martinez siblings.

this description is so interesting. travis probably seeing natalie in this "fiercer" jackie, him "staring at her a little too long" (probably because of the mushrooms starting top set in). natalie saying earlier with coach ben that travis wanted her to be a completely different girl. travis finding a completely different girl while still subconsciously thinking of nat.

Natalie goes easy on Shuana

That is more to say Natalie never truly gave Shauna a good fight, she stands her ground but she doesnt dig too far in. Every opportunity she had, she backs down. I love that.

Natalie could never fight Shauna, not like that, she has seen what Shauna has been through, has cared for Shauna. Sees Shauna for who she was in S3.

Seeing Natalie not give in to any fights, (possibly until S4) is so beautifully done. She wont do it, not to Shauna. not to any of the YJs because underneath everything they feel is a deep knowing of one another that only they could ever have.

Thats their friend, who they have witnessed go through hell. That choice, is their hardest choice of all. I think people underestimate its difficulty because of the hunts. But i think if anything it emphasizes it, taking the life of one of their own, can only ever be dealt with as ritualistic, a necessity, otherwise, its too grave to handle.

The writing in yellowjackets is best described as extremely and incredibly honest. Season 3 proved that to me if nothing.

I once posted on the YJs subreddit to say debating guilt and innocence is odd especially since they are kids, just children. People said "no they're teens" and I....still think about that.

Shauna Shipman, my personal tragedy

Shauna as a whole is tragic intensely. Even in her moment with Bruce the goat, she immediately assumes she has to butcher it. She assumes immediately that she is being depended on again to do something no one else wants to. Now handing that role as punishment to Natalie speaks volumes about how she saw her role. And it’s breaking my heart that Natalie in the adult timeline offers to help Shauna dispose of Adam because she knows how horrific it could be. I will understand not liking Shauna but not empathizing or seeing how uniquely and beautifully written she is confounds me. Birth changes you, loss changes you, and all of that emotion isn’t pretty. Young Shauna advancing and adult Shauna regressing to meet in the middle. Her entire storyline is so honest, down to her relationship with Callie. Maybe especially there. The camera moving away ashamed to look at her as she sobs about her baby. Shauna moving her baby, sitting in the meat shed begging for Jackie and then covering her eyes to cut up Javi. How can you not empathize with her? Above all Shauna was a child, and she lost it all so quick.

It’s especially interesting that the character disliked most is the one who has issues with the role assigned to women by society most. I think I will always be impressed by the writing on this show but Shauna shipman, is insanely impressive. She is anger personified. Shauna experiencing grief in a way that is mainly reserved for men in the media, means so much to me. Having the role of the butcher in itself fed so much into the tragedy she became. Having to butcher Javi after losing her baby, it’s clear something woke up in Shauna more than ever. Her role was more for the shadows, unappreciated and unacknowledged. Shauna struggling with her sexuality, and ultimately ending up in a heterosexual relationship, having a child for the marriage and not for wanting one. I keep picturing her coming home after the crash and seeing the letter from brown; all she could’ve become.

All this to say, i feel personally responsible when she is brought up.

Lottie & the use of conduits

Lottie will actively enable and manipulate others such as Travis and Akilah into situations where they must take something to communicate and /hear/ the wilderness. Travis with the shrooms and Akilah with the cave fumes. She is so desperate for a message to be received by /anyone/ ever since the wilderness went radio silent on her.

I find it fascinating however that (other than doomsday) Lottie herself seems to refuse to communicate with the wilderness in /that/ matter. She wants it to happen organically so much so that she becomes a harmful agent for those around her.

Could it be related to her years of medication? Yes. However I also think there is something to be said there, because the use of a conduit in itself may (in her head) discredit her, it may make /her/ believe that none of it was real. Or that it had abandoned her and found her unfit for its purpose. That the one thing she dedicated her entire being to, doesn’t see her as good enough, (much like her dad does).
