Ever wondered how your day could look in a paper world? Here's an example.
The Definition of Motion Design
by Superslick
Superslick is right - if you search the net for a clear cut definition of motion graphics, or even ask someone who's been in the industry for years, no one can really off the top of their head give you a proper definition (unless of course they have thought about it already and come up with their own). This is his visual interpretation of it and it does serve its purpose well.
35MM
by Felix Meyer
>>35mm<< is a shortfilm about cinema itself. We picked 35 of our favorite movies and tried to simplify them as far as possible. The outcome is a 2 minute journey through the history of film. Take a close look and tell us if you've recognized them all! -- Concept / Layout: Sarah Biermann, Torsten Strer, Felix Meyer, Pascal Monaco Animation: Felix Meyer, Pascal Monaco Sound: Torsten Strer
PSA to Students
Students never realize how much freedom they have until they are knee deep into the industry, which can happen in a matter of days. Once you begin working, you work with a company, as a part of the company - as a whole. You don't do your own projects anymore, instead you work on company projects. Some of them you might like, some you will morbidly hate. At the end of the day however you have to have something to show.
When you are in school however, you have the time to do your own projects, and even when you are given an assignment you usually have some free reign to do what you want with it. Take every project you get and do your most with it. Enjoy it while you can because one day you may be stuck working on something you have no choice but to work on, whether you like it or not.
MK12 Summer Reel 2011
As usual, MK12 brings another great demo reel for our viewing pleasure. Their work is always something to look forward to, and the audio choice for the reel is a nice throwback and gives the reel alot of character.
Unleash Your Fingers
by LABANDEORIGINALE
Here's one of those videos that's isn't exactly original, but the execution is so stunning that you have to applaud it anyway. This just shows that even if an idea is recycled, if it is tackled in a different way and executed well, magic will happen. Click here to see proper execution in action.
Stuxnet: Anatomy of a Computer Virus
by Patrick Clair
This is simply stunning. There are thousands of infographic videos out there, but few even come close to being this intricate and dynamic. There isn't a dull moment in the video nor is it repetitive, and it utilizes a unique concept. Very inspiring.
Resonance
This is a brilliant showcase of motion graphics and audio beautifully blended into 11 minutes featuring several artists. It is all about collaboration and communication, and everyone did an excellent job. Here's the details from the original post:
Resonance is the vision of SR Partners; a collaborative project with over 30 independent visual and audio designers/studios. The aim was to explore the relationship between geometry and audio in unique ways. Special thanks to Clear Cut Pictures who did a great job with the audio mastering and also RenderRocket who gave us access to their awesome renderfarm. This demo reel is simply beyond awesome. Do you see the intro? That alone had me sold on this guy. Simply stunning and inspiring work.
Comotion 2011 Titles
CoMotion 2011 is a student led Motion Graphic Symposium at SCAD consisting of portfolio reviews, panel discussions and student showcase.
Their direction was aimed at showing CoMotion as an outlet for SCAD students to network, get connected and grow into the industry.
Especially considering the fact that they were made in the span of 5 days, I would have to say that these were brilliantly done. The animation all around is smooth, it takes the viewer on a journey with the keyframe, and it is overall just visually pleasing. The attention to detail is impressive, and the sound design matches everything perfectly. Look out for these gentlemen in the (near) future.

Welcome to Define Motion. This is a blog created by me, Graham Reid, dedicated to all thing Motion Media. Whether it may be videos or interviews, style frames or tutorials, Define Motion will feature it all. Think Motionographer or Greyscale Gorialla but on a smaller scale. Here you will find much more posts about student work however as I am a student, but the work will be amazing and inspiring nevertheless.
