Oh yallah I wanted to ignore this so bad. I really did. But I canât.
How is her ambition âtoxicâ? Compared to who?
Compared to Celene? Who burned down Halamshiral because of a play that implied she was soft on elves and insinuated she was in a relationship with one (which turned out to be true?)
Compared to Gaspard? Who started a Civil War (the one YOU ended) because he so desperately wanted to be Emperor?Â
Compared to Solas? A FELLOW COMPANION who wants to hit the reset button on the world in a vain attempt at redemption for his mistake?Â
How are her priorities âwayâ messed up?
Might you disagree with how she wants to restore the Chantry and the Circle? Of course you may. I sure as hell do.Â
But she is not doing this purely for personal ambition. She is doing this because she wants to help her fellow mages. She thinks she is in the best position to help. She thinks she has the right idea about how to treat magic. Much like Fiona thinks she has the right idea or Anders thought he had the right idea or Irving or Solas or LITERALLY ANYONE WHO IS A MAGE.Â
She joins an organization, risking her position and her reputation, to have a say in how the Inquisition decides the fate of mages. Mages like HER.Â
Thatâs why she approves when you say âMages shouldnât be kept out of the Chantryâ.Â
She wants to have a say in her fate. She wants to have control over her life. She just chose the ârespectableâ method of taking her life into her hands. She took the socially acceptable path rather than risk being named an apostate.Â
And she only take as much as she needs to secure that path, and only through legitimate means. She doesnât steal power from others. Note that she does not name herself Grand Enchanter even after she is left standing as the leader of the Circle. Note that she actually recommends Cassandra and not herself for the position of Divine unless you mention it.Â
I donât agree with her, but there is nothing toxic or messed up about her any more than any loyalist mage or Orlesian noble. In fact, she treats elven and Qunari Inquisitors better and with more respect that other companions sometimes do (i.e. SOLAS!!!).Â
This fandom is so invested in tearing down the only unambiguously BLACK WOMAN weâve had as a companion. Seriously, find another hobby.Â
