The many musical avatars of Sloan

Hey Gang,

A few of you asked to hear some of my other music and more than a few asked to hear the Pretzel Jingle studio version. So, even though it's a bit late, I'm posting these tunes anyway and hoping that some of you will still see (hear) this. I'm not thrilled with the way the Pretzel Jingle turned out...I had a lot of trouble in the MDEI audio studio. Regardless, I've posted that one plus a couple of my own tunes so that you can hear the context in which I am usually writing/playing/singing. I have do some statistics work which list mainly used social applications. Actually even social applications themselves should be split into several categories.

Twitter and Facebook are the most famous applications, but one is focus on friends social, one is based on strangers social, even you can do both on them.

Path and Foursquare has limit usage than Twitter and Facebook. Path is designed for really intimate friends social, and Foursquare used as check-in.

Instagram and Color are two picture social applications, but instagram mainly used to share with friends since Color mainly used to share picture to people nearby.

The most similar app to Hello world is an another applications named Nextdoor, but there's still the difference between us. Nextdoor mainly let neighbors to form a discuss atmosphere, but we want lead users to know more about the neighborhood.

It is a good news that every application can take a subdivision market, and our subdivision market has no leaders right now.

I remember seeing this on the UK version of Top Gear. Jeremy Clarkson, the host of the show, illustrates how the Mercedes Benz S Class is able to maintain its distance and continue following its route automatically using Stereo cameras and three different radar frequencies.

Snowboarding and Skiing Goes High Tech with Recon’s Snow2

For those avid snowboarders and skiers out there who want to record, time, and gamily their experience on the slopes you are going to want to check this out.

Recon Instruments is a leader in the heads-up-display (HUD) market for sports and they just announced the availability of their 4th-gen Snow product called the Recon Snow2. Snow2 is basically a pair of smart goggles for skiers and snowboarders. Past generations of Snow have sold over 50,000 units according to Recon.

Whats great about the Snow2 is that it is designed to work with existing goggles from the world’s leading manufacturers including Oakley, Smith, Scott, Uvex, Alpina, Briko and Zeal. The Snow2 is also available for sale as a stand-alone unit.

Recon’s Snow2 has the following features right out of the box:

Performance Stats: Vital information from speed, vertical descent, jump airtime, navigation and distance are calculated and displayed using a built-in precision GPS and an integrated suite of sensors.

Navigation & Buddy Tracking: Built-in GPS that enables full resort navigation, and when paired with a compatible Android or iOS device, provides real-time buddy tracking.

Smartphone Connectivity: Pairing it with a compatible Android or iOS smartphone will allow users to receive texts, display calls and access music player controls all from within the HUD.

Data Viewing and Social Media Connectivity: Users can review and store stats and achievements, and share them via social media accounts.

I just spent the past hour in Trollshaw on Middle Earth...

I stumble across this site that The Hobbit builds to promote the franchise, especially the next movie that will release in December. Developed specifically for Chrome browsers, it is a build-on of the first part of the story.

For those that want more than just a movie viewing experience, it's fun join the quest.

I spend two whole days on the UXcamp this past weekend and I learnt substantial amount of knowledge in the past two days, and I feel the need of sharing this with my follow peers.

Process- Maybe because our group was the smallest group in the camp, we didn’t spend as much time as other group did in the brainstorm process. Our brainstorm process was quiet simple too, we defined the need, then solve those need in our interface design. The problem was a garbage disposal/categorization problem, our focus are the following.

Multi-platform- can use on all devices

Location- User can add multiple location to the app in case they have multiple house to take care of

Alarm- straight-forward

Calendar- a calendar just for the user

Tip-information in the Q&A style

Feedback-two way communication with government

Eco-life- An eco-awareness function that also tie into other functions

Announcement- Some citizen complain that they don’t want to dig out the trash when snow

truck come by their door.

We fall in love with our idea and started to develop an interface, and we spent a lot time polishing up that interface which is easy to use instead of increase more functionality or more concern of what users would want.

Presentation- a 3 Minute presentation was simply too short, and I was not prepared which I still regret at this moment. And once again, like our Tuesday’s class, I focused way too much on the function and not the idea.

Reflection- Our group was quiet upset that we didn’t make it into the top 5 but also the fact that we didn’t receive any feedback from the judges. But we do understand that we made mistakes and we fall in love with our ideas which led to many other wrong doings. We glad our MDEI classmate made it to the first. Congratulations guys.

Hello World- After this awesome experience, next time when I pitch our Hello Ideas, we will mainly focus on the user and how we satisfy their needs.

Virtual Business

Last year, my friends called me from China said she sale her game roll and earned thousand Chinese dollars (equal to 200 CAD dollars). She said she feel like it is a great business she wants to stats.

I met the girl when we in high school, she is a girl spend most time on play online games. She starts her business last summer, basically, at the beginning she sale the virtual money that she earns in game. So, she attends to every event hold in the game, try to earn the money as much as she can. Also, she uses the money to purchase some good weapon in the game, and then sale it in the real world.

It seems that, the virtual business become popular in current society. So, what is virtual business, from look at the Wikipedia we know that “A virtual business employs electronic means to transact business as opposed to a traditional brick and mortar business that relies on face-to-face transactions with physical documents and physical currency or credit.”

There was a news show on Chinese TV, said: A girl’s mum strong disagrees with a boy who like the girl become of the boy doing virtual business. The boy play online game and sale the virtual money to earn the real money, and he really did a good business on it, he has a great deposit in his bank account. He show it to the girl’s mum, the girls mum still say no, because of he not have a “real” work.

So, can we say a virtual Business is not a “real” job? Basically for most old generation may still have this idea keeps in mind. We have to say, the internet changed people life a lot, it could take people out of office, and in the future I realized the virtual Game Business can be a “real” job.

Digital Campaigns made Engaging to the Audience: 'Choosing the Perfect Car'

While doing some online research for competitors of our project Pretzel, I have encountered this interesting nugget:

THE ALL-NEW VOLVO V40 LAUNCHES WITH INTERACTIVE DIGITAL OUTDOOR CAMPAIGN

I know that this is completely off tangent with our project, but I thought it would be interesting to show and tell about the interaction/communication of social technology as it pertains to the DEI 613 course material that we came across throughout the term. :)

Its a unique and creative interactive outdoor campaign launched by Volvo in order to introduce and advertise the new V40 model to the public. With a simple touch with a palm of a hand and a finger, it invites the audience to pick attributes such as the color of the paint job, type of wheels, interior, driving mode, as well as it attempts to capture information about your personality mode for the purpose of recommending that perfect car.

Fitting Room With Augmented Reality

The “Style Me”- personal account page for Retail IQ would have two parts: clothes from wish lists and my closet, and personal 3D avatar. Consumers could virtually try new clothes to see if it match the existed clothes.

Not clothes models are 3D avatars, but clothes designed for them could be presented in a 3D way. This could provide the new virtual try on experience and improve shopping experience.

The new PS4 has an interesting feature called Playroom, which impressed me a lot. I believe this augmented reality idea could be applied into shopping experience, especially creating an augmented reality for fitting room. The robots could be designed for clothes both from wish lists and closet, and people could try on them to see the result without going to stores physically.

Can we really design an experience?

Some think "experience is a subjective state, the result of several conditions: 1. the person with his or her personality, dispositions, moods, needs, and so on; 2. the situation or context of use; 3. the product or service in question." "It is only when you develop products and services based on knowledge (their personality, dispositions, moods, needs, and and so on) and when you constantly track consumer feedback and adjust accordingly, can you HOPE to affect the consumer experience positively".

If so, in terms of digital media design, how can we affect user experience positively?
