I'm in a room that my father locked me in
The final nail in my coffin
Is a keyhole latch on the outside of the door
He installed after the night I almost killed a boy
Had the boy on the floor fists bloody and he just looked at my lips
Looked and looked and I wanted to be buried
So when I stumbled back to my room after midnight I was almost grateful
My father was already waiting to make sure I knew -
get smacked around a little more
Layed out flat on the floor -
That my room is a sort of hole in the ground
In a cow shit town I'll never get out of now
My room is not in my home and it's not where I died
But it's where I'm laid to rest and my family can be heard on the other side
Having dinner without me
Masculinity ode by Ally Ang
Musik. Vĕra Lišková. 1977. Glass.
“I am writing you from the future to remind you to act on your belief, to live your life as a tribute to our victory and not as a stifling reaction to the past… We have the world we deserve and we acknowledge everyday that we make it what it is… We shifted the paradigm. We rewrote the meaning of life with our living. And this is how we did it… We let go. And then we got scared and held on and then we let go again. Of everything that would shackle us to sameness.”
