gender non-compliant
Gender that doesn't meet strict industry requirements
“I know that Jewish students on campus feel afraid. I know that some college activists act imprudently. I know that antisemitic incidents do increase during Israeli military operations. I see the ways that a political culture of identitarian grievance feeds into these dynamics, flowing in all directions; I also see the resources being poured into the weaponization of Jewish fear to quash pro-Palestine activism on campus.
Again, this is all worth discussing. But I fear that the liberal imagination is getting stuck, narrowing the stakes of this world-historical event to the American campus, where many generational grievances have collected, in order to obscure or eclipse the stakes of what is being perpetrated by Israel in Gaza, to abdicate responsibility entirely.
To perversely posit young American Jews as the central victims of the earth-shattering violence in Palestine—and, for that matter, in Israel—seems in its own way a form of denial.”
— Arielle Angel, editor in chief of Jewish Currents

Lily used the morning’s Prophet to line the cages of the Transfiguration mice. Bits of article titles and bylines peaked out. Velvet Hats? A 1920s Trend— By Swelyn— —ster Mitchum’s Favourite Ba— Mice scurried over the day’s headline, but nothing could blot it out. The Minister’s Office Announces New Tough-on-Crime Plan: Spokesman Reports Policy In the Works Since Late July Attack Lily had read the paper over her breakfast coffee and toast and could think of no better use for the rag. Even Professor McGonagall had let out a small chuckle when she saw what Lily had used for the mice bedding. Lily was serving her first detention the same morning as the first trip to Hogsmeade—Professor McGonagall pointed out this was not a favor to her. “You’re needed in the evenings for prefect duties. Though it does benefit you today. I suggest you enjoy Hogsmeade.” Muggle cleaning was hardly a punishment for Lily, though she wasn’t as used to mouse droppings. After an early start, she managed an early finish. If I hurry I can get lunch in Hogsmeade! Her friends had gone on ahead, except for Remus, who was in the Hospital Wing. Just after dawn, Lily made her monthly visit. Luckily, it was before she read the Prophet. That was for the best. Her face would’ve given away the worst bit of news in the paper that morning. A low-level official had proposed a Werewolf Registry for the tough-on-crime plan. It didn’t even make the main article, Lily learned of the policy through an opinion piece by Lucius Malfoy, strongly advocating for the proposed legislation. Lily needed a smoke.
i hate how "being a girl's girl" has replaced feminism. I hate that enforced conformity has replaced genuine compassion for and solidarity with other women. I hate how women call each other "pick me's" for not conforming to femininity or for daring to critique something other women like. I hate how we just keep finding new socially acceptable ways to bully other women for being unattractive or outspoken or difficult or complicated or weird or ambitious or for not performing femininity. I hate those front facing camera "comedians" whose whole thing is making up a straw-woman to make fun of. I hate the obsession with "girlhood" and clinging to being a girl instead of a woman. i hate "the girl version of the roman empire" and "girlhood" and it's just consumerism and I hate the characterised of girlhood as passivity, niceness, sweetness, helplessness and frivolity and I hate the revival of gender essentialism even as a joke!!!
I guess Biden made the decision to drop out of the race.
What’s important is we all remember him as the genocidal war criminal he made himself out to be over the entirety of his campaign. He denied death tolls, he ignored the cries for help, and now thousands of civilians blood rests on his hands. Never forget, Joe Biden is a war criminal, and he should be held accountable to the highest extent. If not by a court, then at the very least by the people.
Would love to see your take on kataang in their late teens or early twenties just being adorable!
Here's a speedy doodle of them all a little older with some mild kataang, if that suits you, anon c:

fixations on nuance and fixations on hypocrisy both feel like the same impulse to me. like an obsession with detail for the sake of detail, both coming from a place that views all political discourse as simply a battle over information and facts. it confuses on the one hand that dogmatic “un-nuanced” positions (“decolonization is a violent and morally necessary process”) can actually be highly adaptable to a range of political contexts, not in spite of local variation in details but because of it, and on the other, misunderstands that the rhetoric of one’s political enemies is meant to articulate a particular vision of power, not factual truths about the world, which only seems contradictory (“conservatives hate abortion but love the death penalty!”) if one takes all rhetoric at its most literal face value
submissive in the way a livestock guardian dog is submissive to the sheep it kills wolves for

For Role Swap, I decided to make an edit with Katara/Aang parallels, how much they suffered and how they are the sole survivors of their people. I used Katara's quotes for Aang's scenes, and vice versa to fit the Role Swap prompt.
There are some voice problems but unfortunately, some scenes have music that I just could not erase. Also, the texts have been a nightmare to make.

i fully believe that de-centering romantic and/or sexual relationships as the endgame of human companionship is unequivocally a good thing but 'amatonormativity' and 'allonormativity' as concepts are so completely the wrong framework to meaningfully accomplish this. so often these words are used to group what love and sex mean to groups who have historically been denied those things (such as gay/trans and disabled people for starters) under the same umbrella as what they mean to groups that actually uphold and benefit from the cultural norms surrounding them, which is, when you get down to it, still just the usual suspects. it's patriarchy. it's white supremacy. it's capitalism.
the idea that our society has an emphasis on love and sex that is harmful to many people is just straight up true. but it's next to useless to have words to describe this phenomenon that make no attempt to account for 1. which types of romance and sex are considered desirable and socially rewarded 2. what kind of people are allowed/rewarded for romantic & sexual behavior vs what kind of people are denied/punished for it and most importantly 3. What social forces and power structures are responsible for this

the reality is that israel rejected every ceasefire proposal and every hostage exchange in order to kill and kill and kill. for some reason the western media is reacting like they are the israeli public, whose largest grievance with the genocide and netanyahu was that it would affect the israeli hostages. now that the genocide has saved four hostages (still less than the number of hostages it has killed) it is perhaps a Salvageable genocide to the western onlookers, who insofar had been unimpressed with the genocide that was too transparently a genocide to be called a hostage rescue operation.
because they don't have a real problem with wiping palestinians off the map, they can only be critical of how gauche it all is to do so while publicly killing israelis in the process. but if the genocide can be seen to save some israelis, well—that makes it worth it. the western liberal can accept the most loathsome reality as long as it preserves the status quo. killing israelis is not the status quo, but killing palestinians is. they can watch the brains spill out of a child's skull and rationalize it as "legal killing" because it saved a hostage who could've been released through negotiation six months ago. because in truth, killing palestinians is far preferable to zionists than negotiating with them. this only presented a problem with some people realized killing israelis might also be preferable to negotiating with palestinians. violence and subjugation above all. we will never speak the same language. everyone should die first.
