(guy who's not getting anything done voice) I need to learn every skill and all information
I believe authors should be cryptic and unhelpful in the interpretation of their own work or even act like they’re dead and never comment on it ever
The older I get, the stayer I home.

people foolishly dismiss desserts and treats as having no nutritional value when they actually are necessary for refilling your sanity stat. to prove my point please observe the emotional stability of the next person you meet who doesnt let themselves ever eat any form of dessert

Even aside from the disappointing levels of fatphobia in the Harris casting
I simply do not truly trust an all white creative team with the concept of “black man is the romantic interest who helps facilitate the redemption arc of a white dude notorious even in hockey culture for how many slurs he used”
And if I said the latest Heated Rivalry casting news reeks of fatphobia
... and were no black bears available?
If I see one more person pull up with a false equivalence of “oh Francois doesn’t have blonde hair” or “oh Hudson and Connor don’t look completely like the book descriptions” or whatever the fuck I’m actually gonna scream
You can be happy with the casting you can trust in Jacob’s vision and all that but don’t act like Scott not being a blonde is the same thing as a plus size character people were excited to see represented as a love interest being played by an objectively skinny guy is remotely the same
You know and I know that’s not the same thing
Harris Drover should be plus-size.
Disclaimers: I LOVE Justice Smith. I want to see him in more projects, and he will do a great job as Harris in the show. I am a white, fat woman who is upset because we have once again been shown how fatphobic the movie industry is.
Because yes - Harris Drover should be bigger, and I'm so tired of everyone trying to justify this not realizing just how ingrained fatphobia is in our society.
Claiming that you "didn't read Harris as fat" in the books, when he's constantly described as stocky, with a pudgy belly and NOT LOOKING LIKE THE TEAM, is just you being fatphobic. The argument that Harris is "just an average guy" could fit if Justice wasn't a lanky, thin man. If stocky means broad - Justice is not that either. We are justifying the casting of a thin man by trying to minimize what descriptions mean.
I don't want to trust Jacob's vision if it never contained a bigger actor. I don't care if it's great chemistry - because if Charlie can't have that with a bigger actor, then we change him too. It speaks more to the fatphobia and how deep it's rooted that these things are even the argument.
You can change haircolors. You can change height. Hell, I would even be fine if Harris HAD been an average, broad shouldered guy. But this is the other end of the spectrum.
I get that casting Harris as a black man adds another layer of respresentation. I'm happy that Harris is black, I'm glad to see Justice in this show. But exchanging minorities doesn't make it better.
(No - I'm not equating the discrimination and issues black people have with being fat. I'm talking exclusively about the bingo card movie makers have that simply state all possible minorities and boil each of them down to stereotypes in shows/movies etc)
We are taught from a very young age that fatness and beconing fat is the biggest sin, and the thing we should all steive to avoid. Discussions about food or nutrition are very rarely just that - it will all eventually boil down to fat loss. I can't even search for yoga for fat bodies without being told thatI should do yoga for fat loss. It's so ingrained in us to lose weight, that we cannot be loved if we are fat, and that we need to change before we can be loved.
This was our chance to get a little bit less that. And, in the current state of ozempic riddled celebrities, we deserve a fat character on screen.
It was never a fat or black. It should have been a fat AND black.
Let’s get this part out of the way: the problem with Justice Smith being cast as Harris is NOT because he’s black or anything less than a wonderful actor.
Personally, I think black, bear Harris would RULE and is my new headcanon for him
Key word: bear
Yes I know he’s not explicitly and totally described as fat, he’s described as short, stocky, and unathletic due to his heart condition. That doesn’t change that a LOT of plus size people saw themselves in him or headcanoned him as plus size.
Fat people are NEVER described as sexy. I remember watching Dumplin over and over even though some of it triggered me because I never got to see anyone like me on screen being considered desirable (especially by someone considered hotter than them). When I think about media depicting fat people in a sexy and sexual way I can only really think of Bridgerton in recent memory (though I’m happy for recs!) and that season is one of the most hated.
Heated Rivalry does intimacy scenes so well and I was so excited to see someone who wasn’t super fit being portrayed like that.
So Justice Smith’s casting is really disappointing for those of us looking to see ourselves being seen as sexy and desirable. I literally had a therapy session YESTERDAY about how I had been conditioned to see myself as undesirable and the dangerous sexual situations I’ve put myself in because of that. If we’re taking it to its utmost extreme: plus size women extremely unlikely to be believed when they report sexual assault because “why would anyone want to rape a fatty like them?”
PS I don’t want ANY of that “I hope he gains weight before filming” shit in my notes. Filming starts in two weeks. And also stop normalizing people do major body changes for films that’s fucking gross and perpetuates eating disorder culture.
why can't a fat person be on screen? and be hot? and have hot sex? and fall in love?

These photos were captured by my friend Jeff Wirth! He’s a phenomenal wildlife tracker with a love for Mountain Lions, he went out specifically searching for the rarely seen—and documented by photographs only once before—sign of a Mountain Lion predating on a Mountain Goat. After he found the carcass he returned with his dslr camera traps and was able to get this mom and kittens returning to the killsite.

Jeff is now doing incredibly important work down in the borderlands of Arizona, documenting the lions and other species in the area and how they’re impacted by the border wall that’s being installed, and advocating both for the wild world and the people who are suffering from it.

UNPOPULAR OPINION: A lot of "mental health issues" disappear when bills are paid, rent is secure, and the fridge is full. Peace is expensive. And pretending money doesn't affect mental health is privilege.
I love characters who are like "I'm a terrible person" but when you look closer it's more like
"I adapted to survive something and now I don't know how to stop being that version of myself."
A big component of Harris’ inability to believe that Troy is for him is the differences in their bodies. I’m sad to lose this. Jacob Tierney has spoken about the amount of body imagine issues in the gay community and I think he has missed an opportunity here. Maybe it will work out, but I’m pretty bummed about it today.
