Not by Accident
"Before God changes our circumstances, He wants to change our hearts. When we commit our lives to the Lord, what happens to us happens by way of appointment and not by accident." -Warren W. Wiersbe
Earlier this year, I applied for a nursing assistant job that I felt would validate my success in school. I was turned down. It was especially hard because the majority of my friends had gotten the job. Although I was sincerely happy for them, it became hard to hang out with them. I wasn't ready to give up, so I applied again. I was turned down. I questioned God and I questioned my own abilities. When I began to lose hope, I asked God how I could show my family and friends that I believe in a faithful God who would some day in His perfect timing come to my rescue.
I have always loved children, but I really felt I wanted to work with the adult population. My mama also pressured me to be a pediatric nurse, but I wasn't convinced. I would pray every day that God would show me the right direction. Looking back, I know that I put too much of my identity and trust in the one job that I wanted so badly... and I was mad at God for not fulfilling MY plan and MY prayers. After my pediatrics rotation, I took a leap of faith and contacted the clinical manager and expressed my interest in a nursing assistant position. I landed an interview, completely skipping the online application, and was hired onto the team on the pulmonary unit! And this was not by my doing, but God's. What happened to me was not an accident. It was my prayer being answered! I still cry from joy, and I laugh because God served me up, as always. He is always faithful when I am faithless. I know He wanted to change my heart before He changed my circumstance. I am truly happier than I have ever been now. More than anything, I want my family and friends to know that I have done nothing to deserve God's faithfulness... but that He gives grace freely, and that He "works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)
