damn ok lake superior
Ok yeah that lake is superior
I’m so angry at the number of people who have commented on my chronic pain posts like “I don’t have chronic pain so I don’t count but I do have chronic migraines-“
that’s chronic pain. that’s specifically the type of chronic pain I’m referring to.
and I’m absolutely not mad at those people, not in the slightest, but I’m furious at everyone and society as a whole that’s convinced them that they don’t count, that chronic migraines aren’t a genuinely debilitating form of chronic pain and disability.
migraines are chronic pain and have significant impacts on your life and you deserve to have that validated and not brushed off as “other people have it worse” or “not a real disability.”
blacked out and woke up to titties lads
I’m always gonna be pissed that amatonormatvity as a term and a model for understanding society was literally mocked into disuse by exclusionists because of its association with aromantic folks.
Amatonormativity, honestly, has approximately fuck-all to do with aros. We did not even coin it, we’re simply the only people who actually take it seriously cause we’re among the ones who are most hurt by it. And it PISSES me the fuck off that it is not a widespread model used in greater queer discussions.
Amatonormativity is what causes romantic relationships to be prioritized above all else. The adults who find themselves slowly losing friends until their only contacts are their coworkers and their own nuclear family? Amatonormativity.
Rebelling against this culture and embracing a non-hierarchical view of relationships is the first step to making genuine connections and improving our collective mental health.
May I also add: Amatonormativity is what causes consensual non-monogamy be treated as inherently abusive, and its the same thing that causes being in an abusive relationship to be seen as better than being single. Amatonormativity is a fundamental part of slut shaming, stigma against sex work and rape culture. Amatonormativity impacts everyone and really should have become a widely discussed and challenged concept but people just hated aspecs so much they were willing to shoot their alleged activism in the foot for it.
The way capitalism pushes everyone to organize into two-adult-some-kids financial units that are much more easily exploitable and kept under control than interconnected multi-generational communities where you don’t need to be having sex with someone to share resources with them? Amatonormativity.
We actually discussed this in my social welfare policy class. TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) was created to make it harder for people to receive aid from the government.
It was based on principles from Reagan’s presidency (already a bad sign) and the idea of “personal responsibility” (ie “It’s your own fault you’re poor. Your individual decisions can get you out of poverty, so it’s your responsibility to help yourself”). Among adding work requirements for aid, creating caps on how long a person can receive aid (and no additional aid is given for having additional children), harsher punishments for not complying, and making welfare programs a responsibility of the states instead of the federal government, TANF’s purpose was to encourage marriage and the formation of monogamous, non-queer households.
This is legitimately one of the slides from my class’s module on welfare policy history:
[Text: FOUR TANF PURPOSES 1. Assisting families in need so children can be cared for in their homes or homes of relatives; 2. Reducing dependency of parents in need by promoting job preparation, work, and marriage; 3. Preventing pregnancies among unmarried persons; 4. Encouraging formation and maintenance of two parent families]
We talked about how this ended up forcing women to have to marry in order to receive government support, which is Not Great. And of course gay marriage was not legal at this time either, so queer people were more easily gatekept from receiving support as well. TANF is still a thing today.
a redraw for funsies
words like "sin" and "guilt" need to be banned from food packaging. fuck you putting marshmallows in my hot chocolate is completely morally neutral
I really need people trying to make posts about fat positivity and acceptance to understand that even in a perfect society w unlimited access to healthcare and a variety of food that there will still be fat people and thats ok.
posts that attribute fatness to healthcare and access to “healthy food” are not helpful, and also inaccurate to modern scientific understandings of how the human body works. Genes more than anything else predict your weight. the right kind of food or diet isn’t gonna suddenly make people thinner (there isn’t a single diet to date that’s been proven to at all work). medicalizing fatness is unbelievably harmful, and the vast majority of medical issues said to be caused by fat…. aren’t actually caused by them. some are loosely correlated, but many of them aren’t even that. And even when people have conditions that lead to fatness, the fat should never be the focus! being fat helps you survive these conditions, and should never be “treated”, especially not before any other medical problem.
Fat people don’t deserve acceptance and positivity because they’re victims who’ve been denied the right treatment, they deserve radical acceptance no matter why they’re fat because they are human beings existing in a natural state. All human beings deserve the same respect and acceptance.
ID: tags via @missh2o2 reading “#posts like these blow my mind its just factually incorrect #the pushback against antfat propaganda has gone so far its propaganda itself #what you eat fucking matters #there were inuit culture where heart disease and obesity were unheard of before convenience stores were in the area #diet makes a huge difference even if its not a Diet TM you get out of an american weight loss magazine #and while fatness is not a cause it is a symptom of dietary problems for a lot of people #it can be harmless and it could be caused by any number of things #but scarfing down 6 sodas a day will give you diabetes heart disease and make you obese and ALL of those things should be addressed #because you’re not ‘naturally fat’ if you suddenly gain 150lbs after changing your diet for the worst #people found out that being fat didn’t *cause* heart disease and went 'welp nothings wrong then’ #there is nothing natural about our bodies when we get food for the supermarket #and there never will be #because even the freshest shit there is modified to be too sugary too fatty have worse fats and have too much simple carbs #none of which we evolved to handle
hi im gonna need you to get your fatphobic incorrect ass off my fucking post
Dieting is better predictor for heart disease than weight -"Researchers at Columbia University Irving Medical Center reported that women with a history of yo-yo dieting or weight cycling—a pattern in which weight loss is followed by subsequent weight gain—had more cardiovascular risk factors than those who maintained a consistent weight.”
confronting the failure of behavioral and dietary treatments for obesity- “This review questions the appropriateness of behavioral and dietary treatments of obesity in light of overwhelming evidence that they are ineffective in producing lasting weight loss. The stigmatization of obesity, the overstatement of health risks, and the pervasive influence of the lucrative diet industry have maintained public demand for dietary treatment. However, decades of research on the biology of weight regulation make clear the unlikelihood of success with dietary treatment, information which the health professions have been slow to integrate. Recommendations are made for improving lifestyle, health risk factors, body image, and the self-esteem of the obese without requiring weight loss.
a persons weight is determined by how much they eat.. right? - no, at least 77% of size is predicted by genes, and the rest still isn’t attributed solely to how you eat. ”Decreases in energy intake, such as those proscribed by weight loss plans, prompt a cascade of biological changes that resist weight loss.“
moreover, you body *does not want you to lose weight*. it puts immense physical stress on your body as soon as you start restricting calories. -”And so the first day that we begin to restrict [food intake], the cave person brain goes “I’ll take care of this. I’ve got you. I’ll protect your body weight.” And it starts to drop the metabolism… The way that this happens affects virtually every organ in the body… It shuts down normal blood flow to your hands and feet, and keeps them cold all the time like a spare room you don’t want to spend extra energy heating when you’re not using it… “
also the idea that there are such things as "bad” fats or carbs is a myth, same with the idea of needing to eat “clean”. all nutrients get broken down by your body into the same basic elements, no matter what they are made of. you body will not see any difference from eating rice today vs rice grown 1000 years ago, it will just break down the starch into sugar. “ALL foods have nutritional value. I feel like at least once a week I hear someone say “X food has no nutritional value.” Usually the food in question is high in carbohydrates and/or fat. But guess what carbohydrates and fat are? NUTRIENTS! Technically they’re called “macronutrients,” but #dietculture conveniently erases that fact by shortening their name to “macros.” Carbs and fat are nutrients, and our bodies need them in order to function. If that’s not nutritional value, I don’t know what is. (Plus, carb- and fat-rich foods often contain other important nutrients [like vitamins and minerals and protein], too.)”
what about diabetes you say? because “scarfing 6 sodas a day” is gonna give you the diabetics! except no it fucking wont. “it turns out that weight gain is an independent risk factor for the development of Type II diabetes… [and treating/preventing diabetes involves] Eating adequately and regularly throughout the day (i.e., over 2500 to 3500 calories per day; no more than 3 hours between meals/snacks). It is easier for your body to process glucose when it comes regularly. Periods of restriction followed by larger meals can stress the body’s abilities to process glucose. Note, you do not need to restrict food groups or eat less. Just nourish yourself adequately and often.” note how restricting food, especially sugars, can actually INCREASE the risk for diabetes!
also regaurding your weird claim that introduction of stores to inuit people made them fat and have heart disease… maybe that’s because Poverty and oppression make people fatter- gaining weight is how your body adapts to stress and food insecurity- it is trying to help you survive starving. weight loss, stress, food insecurity, and etc are all better predictors for heart disease and weight gain than anything else, including diet.
now can you stop and maybe imagine why, during a process of being forced into reservations, having access to previous food sources restricted, and otherwise being victims of genocide and colonization might lead to heart disease and weight gain? if you cant connect those dots, I’m afraid you’re a lost cause.
and there is so much fucking more I didn’t even address
so basically
im gonna need you and everyone else to fucking check themselves next time they try and disguise their fatphobia as “concern for health” because you are parroting misinformation and propaganda and also acting like a person need to be “healthy” in order to get respect, which is fucking ridiculous, ableist, and fatphobic
Facts
my fave filter 🥵
Food Fun Facts for dad types!!!
•Adding butter or cheese or salt or whatever to your veggies so that you like them doesn’t change the nutritional content you get from said veggies.
•Additional calories eaten don’t negate the healthy benefits of food. And, stay with me here, low calorie foods are not more morally pure than high calorie foods.
•If making a food more palatable by adding butter (or whatever) is the make-or-break for someone to actually eat the vegetable, then the Brussel sprouts with butter are FUCKING HEALTHIER for you than the Brussel sprouts you don’t eat. A salad with ranch dressing is healthier for you than the dry greens you don’t eat. A sandwich with cheese and mayo is more healthy than the plain sandwich you don’t eat. The strawberry with whipped cream is more healthy than the strawberry you don’t eat.
•We actually don’t have to buy the bullshit that food that makes us happy or tastes good is less healthy.
@bogleech
As a matter of fact, fat helps your body absorb nutrients. Adding a form of fat, even some olive oil, to a vegetable dish outright makes it better for you! We know much more about this already but here’s the 2017 study:

i dont get offended at white people jokes even though im white because:
i can recognize white people as a whole have systemically oppressed POC in america, which is where i live
most people when they make white people jokes only mean the shitty white people and i am not a shitty white person
im not a pissbaby
my white friends that have reblogged this give me life
4. Sometimes I am a shitty white person and the jokes remind me to FUCKIN STOP
If ur white and like this post I fux with u
^absolutely
5. It’s hard to be offended when white people jokes involve bland food/tourist dads in socks and sandals/white girls in yoga pants obsessed with pumpkin spice/suburban PTA moms and other harmless and mostly true stereotypes while jokes about POC involve them being called thugs/criminals/slurs/uneducated/illegal immigrants.
i fucks with u heavy if ur white and you reblog this
6. They’re usually really fucking funny and don’t perpetuate stereotypes that will ever affect me economically, politically, or cause me any true harm, let alone create risks that “justify” my murder and/or death
Waits for my white mutuals to reblog😌

7. I still don’t know how to season chicken

It’s been a while since we’ve managed to draw anything. A lot of it has to do with increased joint pain, and another part of it is just that we’re super busy at university now oof
