To People Who Say Musicals Are Unrealistic Part IV
Annabeth, Percy, and Grover: We're lost in the world and the world is FREAKIN' AWFUL!
achcse:
Percy had always been in Annabethâs future. The first ever prophecy she was given, at a mere age of seven, relayed him coming to her, aligning himself with her and embarking on a whirlwind that would change her life forever. She had always believed the quest the oracle told her about was their trip to retrieve Percyâs mother from the underworld, but at sheâs gazing into his green eyes, she considers that maybe this was the quest after all, and the prophecy is now complete. Yeah, she wants to be normal, have a normal relationship, chaste kisses in the hall and walking to school together. She normally feels cheated out of a regular life, but for once, she feels that being a half-blood has made her lucky. Their pain and suffering, the wait, has only made this more special to her. She almost voices her thoughts to him, but she is distracted by his lips. She liked watching him talk and smile, but she is surprised when she notices his lily pink lips inching closer towards hers. She meets his lips with her own, almost desperate for this kiss. She had dreamt of this moment in most of her spare time, and the reality of it almost takes her breath away. She kisses him back, her lips move gently against his, but she puts as much passion as she can muster into it and both of her hands find their way to tangle in his dark hair. And when the kiss is done, she moves her head a tiny bit to catch her breath while her hands keep him close to her. ââ Wow,â she mumbles, floored by the discovery of how pleasurable it can be to kiss your best friend. ââ It took you long enough, Seaweed Brain.â She teases, who would she be without the teasing? She still manages to look at him lovingly, her fingers that need constant stimulation fiddled with his hair.
Heâd made impulsive choices before, some of them between life and death, but kissing Annabeth still ranked high in terms of stakes. However, as soon as he felt her respond, Percy knew heâd made the right decision. Heâd thought a lot about what it might be like to kiss her, and the reality outdid the expectations. Describing it would be next to impossible, but his mind mostly goes blank because thereâs nothing awkward about it, despite his lack of experience in this area. His hand had slid down her arm during the kiss, now resting by her shoulder, her blonde hair brushing the back of his hand.
Percy had always liked her hair, but touching your best friendâs hair in a platonic way? It was sort of unusual. But now, as her fingers brushed through his dark, messy hair, he let his fingertips run through her curls. Thatâs when they need air, and he opens his eyes, wondering if she has anything to say. When itâs âwowâ, Percy smiles sheepishly. âYeah...â He practically breathes, other words not coming to mind.Â
He feigns being offended by her teasing, but canât keep a straight face as he speaks. âWow, Wise Girl. Youâre so mean.â He ends up leaning over her, quickly kissing her again: short and chaste. âI canât believe it took me so long, either.â He comments.Â

Her throat tightens, it stings, but sheâs not sure what stings the most, the fact that the greatest irony is finding someone whoâs perfect and then realising that thereâs nothing in this universe could hurt you more. Whatâs the point, then, of it all? Sheâs ready to get up shy away from him, lock herself in a separate room and lecture herself on the fragility of the human heart when his voice saying her name goads her back to reality. She feels the shift in the bed as he tries to look at her, and sheâs grateful that her long, blonde ringlets can hide her so well. Thing surely have changed, she notes with a bit of irony. Her ears are stinging from his words, their affection is mutual, and she finally, slowly turns her figure back to him. Her stormy eyes meet his sea ones and she is reminded of the loss of a normal life, she would already be thinking about her senior prom and if Percy would ask her, where she was going to college, and she almost mourns for the normal Annabeth. Almost. His eyes also remind her of all theyâve been through, and how heâd never betray her like other have. ââ I know being a half-blood comes with an early expiration date,â she begins. ââ And I know that liking someone in this life doesnât always turn out well.â She can feel Lukeâs name hanging in the air, her old affection for him was not a secret. ââ I donât want to miss out on the life I have left by being afraid. Even being afraid for our friendship. Being afraid just means suffering twice.â She sighs, giving her words finality as she looks at him, a gleam in her eyes that a little bit hopeful, and her lips curl up in a smile. Her hand reaches forward to rest on his cheek. ââ Youâve always meant so much to me, Seaweed Brain.â
Percy wanted to believe there was a chance they could live a relatively normal life, but even coming across a grown demigod was sort of unusual--evidence that their time was limited. Despite that, he couldnât help but imagine that he could possibly have a future, and he wanted Annabeth to be in it. Their connection only seemed to make them better people, and stronger fighters. He didnât feel burdened by thinking about her when they battled monsters, because they both knew the other was there to back them up. It didnât keep him from worrying that she could be hurt or worse, but Percy had formed an unfailing faith in her. To him, there was no demigod stronger than her.Â
Annabeth cared about him, and he cared about her. If they were mortal teenagers, they wouldnât have all this to think about. But Percy could see her going to school for architecture, and meeting her outside one of her classes; going to get lunch, and being that annoying couple that never stopped holding hands. He understood their responsibility as demigods, and so much about them was hardwired for battle. But had the gods accounted for their childrensâ capacity for love? Â
âBeing afraid just means suffering twiceâ. Percy watches as she reaches out, his hand moving to rest over hers. He feels a smile on his face, mirroring hers. Annabeth wanted him, and thought he was good enough. âThatâs...â He began, finding he couldnât continue, emotion threatening to bubble up. Heâs incredibly happy, and itâs a little overwhelming. He laughs a little at himself, and takes a breath. âScrew the expiration date.â He says, before probably surprising them both, leaning down and touching his lips to Annabethâs.Â
achcse:
She had done it. She has said what the two have been tiptoeing around for a while now. Thereâs a moment of relief, sheâs happy itâs not just hanging in the air anymore and itâs been said, sheâs got it off her chest. And then thereâs the moment of dread following the relief. Sheâs scared that she has ruined her friendship with Percy, not just a relationship - but her friendship with him, and that was arguably the best relationship sheâs ever had with a person. She wants him, in a romance sense, but she needs him, in a friend sense. She feels her stomach doing flops between the silence they shared. Everyone around her tells her that it must be fate, nothing else could be so absolute and âmeant to beâ- but right now, in the silence it just feels like a half-forgotten dream, waiting for her to look just a little hard so it can fall apart at the seams, mocking her with every shattered stitch. And then she feels the hand on her shoulder. She doesnât assume anything, he had always comforted her, and relaxes her now, like he always does. She hears his words, she hangs on every syllable he says, but she doesnât turn around. ââ I donât want to deal with hypotheticals right now, no âwhat ifâ. You do or you donât, Percy.â Her voice is soft and her normal confident tone is teetering on nervous. This was scarier than any monster sheâs come up against - she has to live with this for the rest of her most-likely-short life. Thatâs a while other thing to worry about, she thinks. She calls herself selfish, for even saying something like this, when she should have considered both of their future first. What an fearful thing to love what death can touch so easily. A fearful thing to love, to hope, to dream, to be â and to lose.
He feels bad for hesitating for so long, the silence hanging in the air. After she responds, not turning around, he almost replies with âI just woke upâ. Hearing her tone of voice, Percy thinks better of it and tries to figure out what to do. He knows how she feels now, and he could be honest. They could be happy together. But what would happen if something went wrong? He couldnât lose Annabeth. She wasnât just a girl he had a crush on; she was his best friend. Theyâd been through so much together.Â
He could claim that he doesnât think of her like that, but heâd rather face a dozen minotaurs than hurt Annabeth. Sheâd made herself completely vulnerable, confessing her feelings. Maybe she sensed that Percy would probably never put himself in that place first, afraid of messing it up. Heâd been told that he took on the blame for many things, even if they werenât his fault--or if something happened he had no control over. But that wasnât really the case right now.Â
A beautiful, intelligent, brave girl was telling him to be honest: no hypotheticals or what-ifs. âYou do or you donât, Percyâ. No âSeaweed Brainâ. âAnnabeth...â He began, trying to choose the right words. He usually wasnât good at that. Self-doubt threatened to creep in, telling Percy he should spare her the struggle of being with him. But sheâd always stayed by his side, even when they disagreed about Luke. As much as heâd been annoyed that sheâd remained hopeful for the lightning thief, Percy couldnât deny he admired Annabeth for her unfailing faith in the people she cared about. âI donât want to mess this up.â He admitted, sitting up, trying to see her face by leaning over. He paused, figuring there was a reason she was still turned away. âThings have changed. I kept--I donât know--denying it, because I was afraid of ruining everything.â Percy explained. âBut I like you.â There. Heâd said it. Well, he could be more specific. âYouâre not just my best friend, either.âÂ
achcse:
Once her gray eyes catch sight of his green ones, from where sheâs standing it seems almost reckless to consider a future without him, so why shouldnât that start right now? She almost audibly sighs, because how could there be so much going on in the world outside of this room, when Annabeth felt so content, right where she was? Sheâs seeing Percy in a whole new light. Sure, sheâs fallen asleep next to him, even on him before, crouched in tiny corners and hiding and in the most uncomfortable of places - but never like this. Never has she chose to sleep next to him, where the situation didnât demand it.Â
She canât bring herself to be embarrassed by her actions, because itâs what she wanted and sheâs not sorry, and he didnât seem to be upset. Her free hand wistfully moves from his cheek, to tangle in his dark hair. ââ I didnât want to be too far from you,â she says, in an attempt to explain why she was in his bed. âI thought if I went to far, you wouldnât have been here when I woke up, like I had dreamt finding you or something.â She offers him up a sheepish smile. She is so content, that sheâs willing to consider this whole âending up in Londonâ a well deserved trip from the universe or the gods, whatever, for her to be with him. She knows thatâs not true, of course, thereâs a looming danger, but thereâs nothing she can do about it now, so she should just be as happy as she can for as long as she can. Sheâs ready to take her next leap of faith, acting on the fact that she might not have much time with him left. She was always the first in their relationship, the risk taker, and she figured the continuity of their relationship would depend on her courage as well. Her hand moves from his hair, to his shoulder as she tries to be a little bit more serious. She knows her face is probably cherry red everywhere now, and her next words come out a little hoarse, but she continues. ââ I think about you a lot, Seaweed Brain. In a more than a friend way.â She immediately groans once the words leave her mouth and she turns to bury her face in a pillow. Thatâs it. Sheâs done it. Ruined meticulous friendship with two sentences.
Percy could remember a time, not that long ago, where if someone implied a romantic relationship between himself and Annabeth, he would immediately deny it. As time passed, he found that heâd started to just change the subject, not responding with a flat-out ânoâ. He guessed heâd had a crush of some sort since they were pre-teens. Percy was impressed by her, and then it grew into admiration. Now, it was something else entirely and he wasnât sure he could be the one to make a move and change everything between them--no matter how much he wanted to. On some level, they were both aware that half-bloods didnât normally get the chance to have typical relationships. Despite that, Percy often imagines his future, and it doesnât consist of 24/7 monster fights, or quests, or even camp.Â
Heâs starting to wake up more, and the feeling of her hand in his hair makes his heart speed up again. The explanation makes sense, considering how theyâre both in London with no idea of how theyâd gotten here. However, he couldnât help but feel flattered that Annabeth hadnât wanted to be away from him. âWeâre both definitely really here.â He responds quietly, noting how warm and comfortable it is, being so close to her. Once again, he studies her features, wondering if it was worth the risk to say something or do something that would make his feelings for her known.Â
Then sheâs blushing, and he wants to point it out, because teasing her is sometimes fun. He also wants to ask if sheâs okay, since she seems to be searching for words for a moment--and Annabeth usually knew exactly what she wanted to say. When she does speak, his eyebrows raise a little, mouth falling slightly open in surprise. She likes him. As more than a friend. Then sheâs hiding her face, and Percy kind of freezes for a second. Is it real? He almost pinches himself to confirm, but his dreams arenât usually as good as the girl he likes confessing her feelings for him.Â
Athena would probably be pissed off at the situation: her daughter, in bed with a son of Poseidon, admitting romantic feelings for him. But Percyâs mind wasnât focused on her mother at all. Reaching over his free hand, he touches her shoulder. Now or never, he thinks, and takes a breath to prepare himself. âWhat if I...liked you, too?â He asks. Even though Annabeth has proven that sheâs not someone whoâd leave him, Percy (and many demigods) had understandable abandonment issues. Yes, his mom was always supportive, but years of being seen as âno goodâ made him start to believe he wasnât good enough for anyone--and he really wanted to be good enough for someone. For Annabeth.
friend: âyeah so what do you look for in a guy?â my mind: me: âuh actually iâve never thought about itâ
achcse:
She was still fast asleep until she feels a slight shuffle around her. Her skin is warm where the sun was shining in, beating down against her and her eyes saw what was like a filmy lense when she opened then. All signs of a relaxing and good nightâs sleep. She then feels the presence on her hip, looks down to see the familiar tanned hand. She sighs with contentment, and carefully maneuvers herself to turn and face him but still keeps his arm around her. She yawns once more more pursing her lips, looking at his still âsleepingâ face. ââ Hey,â she says softly, her free hand goes to his cheek to gently stroke it. She could get used to this, she wistfully thinks, waking up next to him and just being so close. Sure, sheâs kind of dreading him actually opening his eyes because then sheâd have to explain why sheâs in her bed and touching him because itâs not exactly a friend thing to do. But she doesnât care much about that, sheâs warm and happy and with the person that cares most about her and who she cares the most about too. She wants to fully kiss him to wake him up and get his attention, but thatâs all too much for this moment and she needs more concrete proof of his affection before she takes the leap. ââ I think my hair is kinda wet from your drool, thanks a lot.â
He almost kissed Annabeth Chase. Even as he pretended to be asleep, Percy couldnât ignore that fact. Heâd thought about it a lot, but had never actually gotten as close to the reality as a moment ago. He felt pretty confused, mostly because he started to think that maybe it wouldnât be so bad if he had kissed her. There was a chance sheâd be okay with it, right? They were such close friends, and theyâd been comfortable with each other on the couch, sharing a blanket. But then he considered the possibility that she could be upset, or angry. What if he kissed her, and it was like taking advantage of their friendship, and the fact that sheâd let him stay here?Â
Her voice is soft, and Percy tries his best to âwake upâ realistically; not too quickly, but not too slow either. He doesnât even think about the slightly goofy smile that spreads over his features, unconsciously leaning into her touch. Hearing her talk about drool, his eyes widen and he glances at his pillow. Then he realizes she was joking. Oh. Duh. âYeah, well...you know, Son of Poseidon and everything.â He replies mirthfully.Â
louis-weasley:
Louis chuckled slightly at the maleâs response; it was much more calm and less âyouâre mental; thatâs just a stickâ then what he expected. âIt is, yeah.â Thankfully, the other hadnât seemed interested in pushing questions, or else he thought he would be stuck and unable to explain himself. His brows knitted together when the other boy paused after saying he hadnât eaten since he got here. Louis tilted his head, eyeing the other for a good measure just to make sure he wasnât about to make a mistake. he seemed harmless, at least to Louis he did. Placing the wand on the table as he made a mental decision, he sighed. âWell, if youâre that hungry youâre willing to steal a pie, you could just come in and eat something. I donât think itâs fair youâre that hungry, and no oneâs willing to feed you â that is if no oneâs offered yet. which still wouldnât be fair, you donât deserve to go hungry.â
âReally?â Percy asks, surprised to hear the offer. Itâs generous, and he thinks about how thereâs no way this guy can know heâs not a threat. Yet, here he is, inviting him in to eat something. âThatâs...thank you, really.â He says gratefully, and remembers the ruined pie on the ground by his feet. His eyes move to it, and he leans down. âIâll just, uh, pick this up so it doesnât attract any b--well, I donât know if thereâs bears in London, but...â He shrugs his shoulders, picking up the tin and tossing it into the trash can before walking to the door of the house.Â
achcse:
Annabeth watches him plop into bed, his words trail off, and an amused look sweeps across her face. ââ Youâre so cute, even if youâre already drooling,â she mutters, and even if he did hear it, he wouldnât remember by morning. She looks at him over once more, and a tiny sigh escapes past her lips. She doesnât want to be in her room alone, she had just spent all that time by herself and the thought of being away from Percy for just twenty minutes upset her, let alone hours. And really, what are the odds that her mother is watching her, out of all of her kids, out of all times of the day, right now? Sheâs practically an adult. Almost legally an adult. Sheâs been on her own for the past ten years and can make her own decisions, she figures. Curling up to her best friend/crush shouldnât be a big deal. She climbs up on the bed on his free side, sheâs careful not to move too much and disturb him a lot. She does, however, give him a light tap on the chest and bring her lips down to his ear to whisper to him. ââ I donât want to be without you,â she admits, and she even blushes softly at her own words. She had finally said it out loud, she was proud of herself, even if he was passed out for her confession. Triumphantly, she pulls the blanket over both of them, nestles into his side, and presses her cheek up against his chest. The thumping of his heartbeat eventually lulled her into sleep.
Percy drifts into a deep sleep, a nice change from the somewhat fitful rest heâd experienced in the park. Heâd had his hand on Riptide pretty much that entire night, and tonight could finally relax. Perhaps there was even some kind of protection given to the house, since it was Athenaâs place (although it was probably officially Annabethâs dadâs, since gods likely didnât sign leases). He shifts a little in his sleep, relaxing into a source of warmth he canât consciously recognize as being his blond companion.Â
Hours pass before Percyâs eyes open slowly, sensitive to the light thatâs streaming through the blinds. He turns his head away from it, only to find himself very, very close to Annabeth. Sheâs still sleeping, eyes closed and features absolutely peaceful. His breath catches in his throat as his gaze moves over her face, to her pink lips. That familiar desire to kiss her returns, and he actually begins to lean in until she stirs. Losing his nerve, Percy decides to pretend he hasnât woken up, laying back and closing his eyes (but not moving the arm that found it way around her, his hand resting over her hip).
lenaxtns:
âWell I donât know if I would trust the citizens of London.â Lena commented with a laugh, finding the idea more amusing than anything. She hadnât realized how many things she enjoyed about home. âBut the cloudy weather definitely makes me think weâre in England.â She was surprised it wasnât pouring rain really. Lena raised an eyebrow, offering the guy a teasing smile. âYa sure about that love? Most places âround here will serve you beer or wine as long as youâre sixteen. You just wonât be able to get your hands on the hard stuff unfortunately, or at least not without some sketchy help.â
Percy frowned. Who could he trust then? Probably no one. That was a depressing thought. He made a mental note to keep a careful eye out for anyone who seemed like they could be a monster. Just because he didnât know where he was didnât mean he suddenly lost his demigod scent that monsters loved. âIâm seventeen, but I donât drink.â He tells her, not mentioning that the smell of beer in particular makes him feel sick to his stomach. It reminded him of his disgusting former stepfather, Gabe.
Percy: Can I ask a dumb question?
Annabeth: Better than anyone I know.
louis-weasley:
Louis blinked, staring at the guy who had to be around the same age as him and was frozen on the spot. A light laugh passed Louisâ lips whenever the male admitted to attempting to steal the pie. At least he was honest, he thought. âItâs fine, really, Iâm just ââ Louis cut himself off at the mention of his wand, his eyes reverting back to the stick in his hand. his first instinct was to hide it, and act like it wasnât; another part of him, told him there was no use in lying when the other had just told the truth when they couldâve lied. âErm, yeah, it is.â he simply said, holding it up and shrugging his shoulders. âwhy were you attempting to steal a pie?â
Leave it to Percy Jackson to be distracted by a wand. If it is, he wonders how it works--and hopes that it wonât be used against him. Heâs not really sure how he or Riptide would fare against magic. The laugh made Percy think that this guy wasnât on the offense, which made him feel less like turning and running. âOh. Cool.â He replied, nodding a little. His mouth gapes open a little at the question, before he decides to continue this trend of honesty. Itâs kept him unharmed so far, after all. âI woke up here and havenât eaten since...â He paused, unsure of when heâd last had a meal.Â
itsgoingtobeabigbigbigday:
âI did, a few days ago.â She confided now that she knew he was in the same situation. âIt has happened to many others so you are not alone in your confusion. The story Iâve been told is that a divine being brought us here- hardly an illuminating explanation, I know.â That was the extent of her limited information on the subject, she wished she knew more.
âDivine beingâ? Percyâs thoughts jump to a potential conclusion: the Gods? His brow furrows as he tries to consider what scenario would involve placing people in London against their will. He wracks his brain, but comes up no answers. It doesnât make any sense at all. âThatâs more than I know.â He confessed, and paused. âWho told you? About the âdivine beingâ thing.âÂ
