No energy to do spells? Me too, here are some easy, low energy ways you can include witchcraft in your day-to-day life for those days when the world feels like too much but you still want to practice:

When cooking or making food, add herbs that match intention (making hamburger? Add a bit of salt and pepper for protection)

Sit outside and talk to the moon or sun

Listen to a witchy playlist! I personally love this one

Sit outside for a while in the nature

Self care! You might not believe it, but taking care of yourself (showering, brushing teeth, skincare, sleeping) can be extremely empowering, especially if you’re in a funk

Charge your jewerly on your altar/with moonlight/by your deities and wear it

Carry crystals with matching intentions

Make moon/sun water

Praying to your deities, if any

Light a candle or incense

Artemis Brauronia, or Artemis as the protectress of the young (both humans and animals). Her festival at Brauron was held in the spring, and little girls, called arktoi (‘bears’) danced in honor of the Goddess, imitating bears.

I’ve shown Her here in the saffron robe of the arktoi, as a young girl holding a brown bear cub. Behind Her are a laurel tree and willow branches, both trees sacred to Her.

It’s not actually watercolor, but a pencil drawing scanned in then colored in in Photoshop using scanned in watercolor textures. I did it that way (I really do much prefer just painting, thanks) because transferring the pencil sketch with the light table wasn’t giving me the results I wanted. I’d like to figure out a way to just draw the sketch once and then paint directly on that.

Pelanoi Recipe

Pelanoi (singular: pelanos) are a type of traditional offering in ancient Greek religion, especially in Hellenic pagan practice. Pelanoi were small ritual cakes or flatbreads, usually leavened, made from barley or wheat flour and mixed with honey, olive oil, wine, or milk.

1 cup of whole wheat flour

2 tablespoons barley flour

1/2 tablespoon of instant yeast

1/2 teaspoon of salt

3/4 cup water

4 tablespoons of extra flour for dusting

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 50 minutes

Passive Time: 4 hours

In a bowl, fold the flour, the yeast and the salt together. Add the warm water. Keep folding with the spatula until all the flour is moistened.

Place the sticky dough onto a floured surface and knead it until the dough becomes smooth, which should take 2-3 minutes. When kneading, always sprinkle some whole wheat flour on your surface and your hands so that the dough does not stick.

Transfer the dough into a floured bowl and cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Let it rest at warm room temperature for about 3 hours until doubled in size.

Place the dough onto a floured surface. Flour your hands as well as the dough and fold the dough over 2-3 times. Fold the dough over with no added pressure.

Line a loaf pan with parchment paper and dust it with extra flour. Leave the dough ball for another hour until it has doubled in size.

Preheat the oven to 230°C or 450F. Place a baking dish filled with hot water on the bottom of the oven. Steam is important for your pelanos to form a proper crust.

Bake for 20 minutes. Remove the baking dish filled with water. Bake at 220°C for another 30 minutes until golden brown.

Let cool before replating and offering.

new year's spell jar 🎇

a spell jar to manifest good vibes all year long

ingredients:

salt - charging

cayenne - catalyst, manifestation

rosemary - protection

lavender - peace

thyme - love

cinnamon - success

bay leaf - wishes come true

basil - prosperity

sage - wisdom

orange peel - happiness

instructions:

cleanse your jar however you'd like - i use plain ol' soap and water, wipe down the inside with moon water, and then dry completely (moisture + dried herbs = mold)

add salt and cayenne to the jar, first, to act as a foundation for the spell

then add the rest of the ingredients to the jar while focusing on your intent

seal with wax, a ribbon, or however you'd like

place somewhere visible in your home - mine stays atop my altar :)
