I see a lot of posts now about people sad that Dan and Phil might go the entire year without making a joint video, but I’m gonna propose a counter-argument:
This was the year Dan and Phil decided they get to be a couple instead of an entertainment duo.
And I think that’s breathtaking, to be honest, and probably beyond any of our wildest dreams if you’d asked us last year the direction Dan and Phil were gonna go in with their audience. In 2019 they decided that what we’d see, what they’d show us of themselves together, would almost exclusively be for the purpose of reaffirming to us that this is them living their life together and not for financial gain or professional convenience.
Obviously their coming out had personal significance to themselves, and clearly they didn’t want media spotlight attention on the relationship aspect (for reasons Dan literally laid out in Basically I’m Gay) but they still took this year to calmly and patiently convey the truth of them, together in a way that no one can argue is being done for money or views.
