what's even good on Tumblr anymore??
I miss when this was dangerous
LE VOYAGE DANS LA LUNE (A TRIP TO THE MOON), dir. Georges Méliès, 1902
I haven’t used tumblr in over a year I think, I used to really love it when I was a teenager. It was an interesting and strangely vast outlet that helped me become who I am today. Of course like anything there was some fucked up parts about it too. But I can’t help but remember the way I felt on here, the beauty and creativity exploding in my mind just from looking at cool weird shit all night.
I guess I’m making this post because I’ve been feeling very nostalgic about 20teens subculture fashion. I know nostalgia can be a dangerous weapon for consumerism ,,, and trust, it’s totally got me. But I think nostalgia can be a tool for artists to connect and reminisce with their audiences. I think the most successful pop icons have perfectly curated vibes that really come down to nostalgia, yet newness, and most importantly honesty.
I know it might not be healthy to be so individualistic and worry about this stuff, but if I ever want anyone to pay attention to my music and art, unfortunately I think I have to. World building is such an essential part or music now and I would really like my second album to embody something truthful and wonderful, I want my art to connect with people. I want colorful, moody, nauseous kids to feel seen with me. But that’s incredibly hard to do with 2 monthly listeners, 2 jobs, and 2 elderly parents that need your help sometimes.
That all being said, what’s the best way to get more engagement? How can I get more people to listen to my music or book a tattoo??? If this falls upon the eyes of artists who feel like they’ve had some luck getting more noticed, please share your secrets, I fear I’m getting too old for a young girls dream
