Considering the events in More Blood, in that scene where his mother tried to start a conversation with him but he rejected her, many people concluded that his mother never actually ignored him; the problem was him. Thank you so much! Please don’t worry because I always welcome thoughts about reiji sakamaki into my brain 👍 although I won’t lie I haven’t reviewed the story in a while.. so please take everything with a grain of salt (i am also just yapping 🥀)
I think it comes down to bottling things up and constant miscommunication (or lack of it) that lasted however old he is, probably? Reiji wanted his mother’s love and attention, that much I think was obvious. Beatrix, given the circumstances, seemed to be more focused on raising a successful heir (gave birth to shu before any of Cordelia’s children were born), so all the attention fell on her eldest son.
It’s because Reiji respects his mother so much that her dismissive attitude cuts so deep. I think both reiji and beatrix are incredibly awkward at expressing themselves and that did neither of them any good..
I believe that shu also had a part to play in this. Despite having received what reiji desperately wanted, he simply wouldn’t do anything of value at all. Everything handed to him on a silver platter and he still wouldn’t pick himself up. I feel like I’m going on a tangent here but! in my (humble😟) opinion, a lot of people deduce that reiji just plainly hates shu and I don’t think it’s true. There’s no ‘hating’ your sibling who’s grown with you for centuries.. I think reiji is smart enough to recognize the importance of an heir and therefore I imagine it’s like this for him:
I admire my mother and would like her approval
Her attention (thing I want) is on shu -> shu is not cooperating, shu is wasting his potential, i wish he could just do the things should (so mother might be happy?) -> he won’t -> this guy is good for nothing and i do not like him very much now
Does mother value this good for nothing so much that I am worth so little of her time?
there’s the start of his resentment and inferiority complex, probably. It’s funny to call him petty but I wouldn’t say he’s evil for no reason
And if you’re referring to this conversation I think the mention of Shu’s name was enough to deter any desire to keep talking
