I went to a pre-order party to pick up Pokemon Sun, made a cool cosplay friend, saw a few people I haven't seen in forever, and got engaged!! ... then played Sun until the point of exhaustion! I have to go to work today, unfortunately, but I'm planning to play until I pass out tonight!

Only four days until Pokémon Sun and Moon are released!! I am trying to avoid spoilers for the next few days but it has been hard to not browse the Sun and Moon tags so far. Is anyone else super hyped?? Anyone going to a midnight release? -You know I am!

Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, the date of Trump’s inauguration), we hold a European-style nationwide general strike. Anyone who can afford to takes the day off, calls in sick, asks to not be scheduled*, or skips school. Shut down the country.  See how well “Great America” does with no liberals, gays, women, union members, Mexicans, Muslims, etc. working.

1. People who are against Trump need a chance to show their opposition through something other than memes and FB posts. Many people are doing protest marches, sure, but this would create one, nationwide, unified one. Also, many people might be uncomfortable with marching in a protest, maybe worried about being arrested. This would be a way to show solidarity, in a non-risky way (though if you wanted to attend a protest, you certainly could—I’m sure there will be plenty!).

2. Show the GOP Congress and the rest of the government the extent of our opposition to Trump and his policies/presidency–in a way that’s more meaningful than just an e-mail or phone message to their office. Show that if they do end up headed to the extreme right, we have the ability to stop the country in its tracks.

3. It would be a day to hold protest marches, to have ACLU or Planned Parenthood fundraisers. To listen to anti-fascist speakers. They could all be organized by appropriate organizations—this is just a call for a strike. But if all you wanted (or were able) to do is to participate passively by not working that day, that’s good, too.

*Please do not risk yourself or your livelihood, if you think that these would be threatened by your taking the day off from work or school. Keep the safety and welfare of yourselves and your loved ones in mind!

Firstly, cats stim. They purr, swish their tails and knead their paws against pillows, blankets, and other soft things. Many cats actively seek out sensory experiences, like listening to birds singing, lying in a sunbeam, rolling against the grass, etc.

Cats have sensory sensitivities— many of them dislike walking on certain flooring, touching certain textures, and certain smells or sounds may make them anxious. Their fur is very sensitive, they can sense the lightest touch, or speck of lint, or dust and their skin will quiver until they can lick or rub it off. When they become overstimulated cats retreat into a small, dark place to recover.

Cats love routine. Many cats know the exact time that their owners wake up in the morning and will wake them. A cat with a routine is a happy cat— they love to have their meals or soft food on a schedule and will learn their owner’s schedule. Cats will become anxious when the schedule is disrupted or if their owner doesn’t follow their usual routine.

In the same vein cats are very wary and/or anxious when it comes to the introduction of new things or people into their environment. Cats require time and patience to get used to anything or anyone newly introduced. Cats also feel anxious when existing furniture is rearranged or when a new smell (like an air freshener) is introduced into the home.

Cats often have “special interests”, a particular activity or thing that they love and can spend hours enjoying. It could be playing with a particular toy, chewing on something, listening to the radio, or watching the clothes in the washing machine. My cat Kitty has a certain ball that she fixates on and will happily enjoy and obsess over for hours.

Finally, cats have a very distinct and subtle body language. The difference is particularly evident when compared with the exuberant, unsubtle dog. The slightest twitch of a tail or turn of the ears, the frequency and timing of blinks, and the positioning of the tail in relation to the body are all little movements that can express much. To the untrained eye it may appear as if a cat is bored, aloof, or unaware of its surroundings. But once you learn to recognize cat body language and understand cat communication, you’ll be amazed at the depth of emotion and how expressive your cat really is.

Yes, I think that cats have a lot in common with autistic people. And that’s wonderful!

Hello everyone, now seems like a good time to finally tell you all about Pillowfort.io, a blogging platform that I (juliabaritz) and vaguestblogging have been working on for a while. Basically, we wanted to start a new blogging platform that takes our favorite features from sites we’ve used like Tumblr and LiveJournal, and create the best kind of blogging platform we could think of. Our goals for Pillowfort are to create a place where fans and creators alike can share their work, create a community of their own, and do so in a positive and safe environment.

On Pillowfort you’ll be able to run a personal blog similar to how Tumblr blogs operate, but also create communities similar to the ones that LiveJournal features, so that you can easily share content with people who share your tastes and interests. We’re also working on privacy features like blocking users, the ability to make posts rebloggable or un-rebloggable, and creating privacy lists so that your posts will only be visible to certain users. In the next few weeks, we’ll have more detailed posts about what Pillowfort is going to look like and what features we’ll be including, but above are a couple screenshots from the current state of the site so you can see what we’re going for.

We want to get the word out, so share this post if you would be interested in using a site like this so we can get an idea of how many people are interested! This site would also be a very large undertaking for us to attempt to finish ourselves, so we would love for people who would be interested in helping us with the programming to contact us and let us know that you’re interested. The app is built on Rails and currently deployed on Heroku (using Postgres for the database), so a familiarity with Rails and PSQL is greatly preferred.

VERY Important YouTube Red information.

I know this blog is usually strictly Rooster Teeth, but I need to say something.

YouTube Red is literally fucking content creators.

You’ve probably heard some shit here and there, but don’t exactly know what’s going on. That’s why I’m making this post to inform you exactly why YouTube Red is the worst thing that’s ever happened for content creators, large or small.

Everything will be sourced, so if you don’t believe me, just click the links. I’ll be summarizing it all here anyways, so you don’t need to.

What you need to know:

Firstly, Google is FORCING YouTubers to sign with YouTube Red. 

Any “partner” creator who earns a cut of ad revenue but doesn’t agree to sign its revenue share deal for its new YouTube Red $9.99 ad-free subscription will have their videos hidden from public view on both the ad-supported and ad-free tiers. In other words, YouTube will remove all videos from your channel if you don’t agree to sign with YouTube Red. This has already happened to tons of channels, and is the first reason why YouTube Red is terrible.

Next, YouTube is already fucking over creators with low pay. Creators currently receive 55% of advertising revenue on their videos, which is way lower than similar streaming competitors like Spotify (70%) and Apple Music (71.5%). 

If you sign up for the free trial, the channels you watch will be making significantly less than they already do from you. Instead of getting money from the ad you watch before every video, they get a split portion of the $4.50 from your YouTube Red subscription. They will be splitting it based off of how many minutes of their channel you watch, which means channels with high quality short videos will be punished by channels with longer ones.

Also, $10 is a fucking ripoff for something that has been available to use for years. Nothing that YouTube Red is offering is groundbreaking or new. You can use any of the hundreds of sites online to download videos and AdBlock has existed since forever.

I don’t want to read all of that, can you recap it?

YouTube Red will not be paying the creators as much money as they deserve

The price of YouTube Red is fucking absurd, when you consider that the features of it have been available for years using other sites and apps.

Now, you’re probably thinking, what can I do to combat this bullshit?

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR YOUTUBE RED. Even the free trial. We need to not support this service in any way, it’s the #1 way we can fight it.

Need to download a video for offline use? Use a different service. I Personally recommend clipconverter.cc.

If you use AdBlock, please turn it off, for the next 30 days at least. This will help our favourite channels out during all of this nonsense. I have nothing against you if you use it, however it’s the best way to help out right now.

Support your favourite creators through other means! Many channels have a Patreon you can pay them through, or have a store where they sell shirts and stuff. These are fun ways for both the channel and you to get cool stuff!

Do not trust YouTubers talking about YouTube Red. Many of them are sponsored by YouTube, and are basically being paid to tell you how good it is and why you should get it, such as Pewdiepie. You shouldn’t ever trust the opinion of someone being paid to promote something. Do your own research and form your own opinion.

Reblog this. There’s no better way to help out than to spread the message yourself.
