rami malek annoys me for being so smart; like he is beautiful, he is fashionable, he has developed that insane acting talent, and he is intellectually curious? life is not fair. i know i kind of poopoohed him 'writing a book' because fucking everyone was doing it during the pandemic, but his more recent interviews when he's a little less out of the spotlight and a little less hesitant to answer questions have convinced me that i will in fact buy any book he damn well writes. like

expound on this, tell me more? escaping what? this sounds very in relation to acting? the way he thinks is as fascinating as the characters he creates.

i respect his respect for picasso - picasso was the artist who really opened me up to understanding the path from traditional art to conceptual art in history, and i really see that era of art as a nexus turning point in how people thought about art as a commodity, so. yeah.

"listening became very instinctual from the start" looooooove this.

"i preferred inhabiting other people's contradictions" the wording here??? i feel like in another life rami was a poet. like this sentence is gonna sit with me for a minute. also the concept of acting as "elegant trespassing" is delightful. and slightly devious.

i am really really hoping this means more character roles for him in the future. like we all love a leading protagonist. but the truly iconic characters that people latch onto and remember seem to be the ones who are slightly in the background and can still retain that aura of unknown mystery.

ignoring the obvious product ads (lol) i appreciate how he really just gets it with clothes and costuming.

BUSTER KEATON PROJECT MENTIONED!!! fingers crossed that works out, im so intrigued by rami's admiration of that actor because i definitely do not share it lol. i would love to learn :)

i find it a trifle annoying when audiences and media try to connect the actor to the role in ways beyond portraying a character, so his answer here sidesteps that neatly. and critiques it a little - pointing out that people see him and yell freddie's name. it must be both jarring to have your own identity erased in such a moment, but also flattering that your work has had such an impact. but also, before i even fully watched mr robot my first introduction to rami was being dragged into watching that first season when it came out by my computer science friends, despising the sexism so much because i was currently entrenched in that world at carnegie mellon, and then rage quitting and refusing to watch any more of the show while getting increasingly annoyed at rami's ubiquitous presence online as this image of the perfect "internet boyfriend" and how fans couldn't seem to separate elliot being nerd boyfriend material from the actor himself. rather a lot like what we are seeing happen to hudson lately but on a smaller scale with mr robot, actually. so like. of course this conflation of rami is elliot would annoy me, im terribly biased. when we are human beings we can hide our flaws a little, narrate our own stories. but morally gray characters like elliot or snafu have their flaws and bad sides all out on display in the story intentionally for the plot and themes and whatnot. and that is a lot to take on in addition to the good qualities if we are projecting that character onto the actor.

i no longer have questions, thats just rami 🤣

the article was interesting, and i fundamentally disagree that rami is "unserious" in his career where each move seems very calculated. and even this sudden discussion of his slapstick qualities seems to harken back to his offhand mention of buster being his childhood idol and the biography that hasnt materialized yet. are they still pushing to try to get that through? i also appreciate his recognition that silent and mysterious no longer hits the same as in the golden age days and that there is definitely use for social media even for cemented names such as himself:

hey no offense rami but when is that LA love letter movie going to get made, i need it?

this goes along with the famous story of him ending up celebrating his oscar win in the kitchens. this guy will care about, listen to, or work with anyone who shows promise, it doesnt matter who they are, where they came from, or what credits they already have. which is so so the antithesis of hollywood, i am proud of him.

btw super gratified that he considers fashion so symbolic, especially given my tendency to overanalyze his outfits. like yes most of the time i am talking out my ass on this blog but with rami it could very well be true. (i am reminded of that gorgeous shoot in egypt with the combination of the old and new).

but seriously that LA movie, i am waiting
