Whats going on with Destiel and why should you care?
This is for anyone who wants to know and doesn't, or knows some and would like to know more.
If you have only heard a few things about it already its probably been a mixed bag. I've collected the information that I personally find relevant and that I wish more people knew but I also encourage you to do your own research and come to your own conclusions.
For a show that was on air for 15 Seasons there is alot of information avaliable, not all of it is real so be sure to fact check!
🔵 After 12 years of queerbaiting the character of Castiel professed his gay love to Dean and promptly died.
🔵 The ending of the show was rushed disjointed and lackluster. (X)
🔵 Very few people form the show have acknowledged the gay love confession that trended #1 over the US election.
🔵 Now we are being told it was platonic but open to interpretation so that the network doesn't piss off its homophobic audience that could potentially follow one of the shows other actors to the W*lker Texas Ranger Reboot.
November 5th 2020- After 12 years of queerbaiting the show made its most popular ship canon one sided (reciprocated in the Spanish dub) by having the character Castiel profess his queer love to main character Dean. Here is the confession with the script.(X)
The show filmed its last two episodes over the pandemic and did not touch on the confession, the other characters feelings or really mention Castiel’s sacrifice in any meaningful way again. Fans were outraged they set up this fundraiser raising over $60k for LGBTQIA Youth in just a short time. The finale was the second lowest rated episode of the shows 15 year run. Here are some of the reactions on the show's IMBD.
They filmed in Canada and because one of the shows other stars the Actor that plays Sam was going on to begin filming Walk*r Texas Ranger and the filming restrictions had been lifted in Texas, it's widely assumed that the ending of Supernatural was rushed and de-gayed as the Network wanted to retain conservative fans for W*lker.
The Actor that plays Castiel went on to say that he was pleased they let them do it, that it was a Homosexual Declaration of love when he said this in a panel he was answered by Mark Sheppard who plays another famed character on the show. Sheppard said "we all already knew".
No one else really spoke about the ending, the actor that plays Dean mentioned the confession briefly speaking highly of the scene, when asked about his characters reciprocation he essentially said that he didn't want to define his art. He liked 2 posts about the confession and that episode then he *fucked off to the mountains* without mentioning the last two episodes.

In-person conventions started back up on October 16th 2021 and the new, very obvious company line (mutilated by some*) is that the gay love confession from Castiel was platonic but it's open to interpretation. Even Misha Collins who once was proud to call it a Homosexual Declaration has been walking the confession back, but stating that he knows his interpretation. It's unclear if this is because the other actors walked it back, or this was directive from the network. My guess is both.

This was made with the goal to share with people that are passionate about representation in media and haven't researched this blunder themselves yet.
