Admin J’s notes: Haha, I’m back with this fic once again! As you know, I don’t like HS AUs that much, but this is amazing. I love the way the boys are when growing up, how well all the bad and good things have been told. I don’t like it when authors try to write teen stories too angsty. I mean, being a teenager is hard for anyone, so why you can’t just write typical teenage angst things. The set-up in Destiel is anyway very angsty: you have John’s A+ parenting and alcoholism, Dean having to take care of Sam, Cas’ stupid family, being gay… You don’t need to write about everyone getting raped and trying to kill themselves and stuff like that, you just need to make the reader feel the pain. I kinda get off-trailed again. Read this.
Summary: Castiel Novak is a product of the system, having gone through too many foster homes since the age of seven. At fourteen, he lands himself in Sugar Lane Mobile Home Community, under the care Missouri Moseley. There, he meets one Dean Winchester. A story about teenage hooligans, growing up, and finding home.
Title: The World Crashing All Around

Admin J’s notes: I did skip this fic so many times because I thought it was about a kid Dean and an adult Cas hooking up together, and that’s not cool for me. At all. Luckily I finally did read this some months back because that wasn’t the case. This is an amazing story about growing up and finding your place in the world. There’s an angel Cas and amazing Gabe, very dean-like Dean and very lovable Mary.
Summary: During a storm in September of 1987, Dean and Sam hear something hit their roof. When they brave the backyard to investigate, they find a fledgling angel. A story about best friendship, spoiled plans, and love, in four parts.
Title: (Don’t) Stand So Close To Me

Admin J’s notes: This is a fic that makes me sad. When reading the summary I was having so high expectations and I was so happy even before starting to read it, and then… The fic wasn’t that good. The idea was amazing, I think, but the fic was kind of rushed through and it could have needed a lot more betaing. There were so good parts and reading this made me so sad, because there’s so much unused potential in this fic. That’s the reason why you beta-read your fics, write it better, beta-read it again and then published it. A beta is the most important thing for a writer, never forget that.
Summary: I’ts uncommon to find your True Mate when you are ten years old, but that doesn’t stop Dean from knowing Castiel Novak is his, even if the omega is over a decade older than him.

Admin A’s notes: Cas and Jimmy’s cheesy bickering was the best. I really enjoyed the way the fic started off light and almost humorous but evolved into angst towards the later chapters. Of course with a happy ending (though the happy ending ended without a happy ending, if you catch my drift)! Lol my inner ten year old is gleeing every time the last chapter is titled the happy ending :’D
Summary: Castiel Novak’s otherwise boring job at the library takes an unexpected detour when anonymous love letters addressed to him begin to appear down the returns chute. Jimmy Novak finds the situation hilarious - it’s about time that his twin brother got some action - and helps to engineer a plan to discover the identity of the mystery sender. Except Castiel isn’t so sure about all this; maybe the childhood crush on his best friend Dean that hasn’t exactly faded along with childhood has something to do with that…

Admin A’s notes: Road trip fics are the best, I’m so biased that it’s hard for me to stay objective while rating this :’D I don’t know why I love reading these types of fics when even the two hour drive to our summer house makes me want to kill myself :’D
Summary: Dean and Castiel meet on the first day of school and quickly became best friends. In the summer before they begin college, they take a roadtrip to Florida. Away from family and the eyes of their small town, they come to the realization they’ve been falling in love for years.

Admin A’s notes: I’m not a huge fan of these fluffy Destiel growing up together fics, or established fluff fics, but this was pretty good. Even in my high standards. I think this is more admin J’s alley :’D
Summary: Dean is eight years old when he meets Castiel. Well, Castiel actually breaks into his house to sleep on his sofa. Except then he stays for a week. A month. A year.Fourteen years. Dean falls in love with Castiel-the-weird-sofa-burglar. They build a life.Until one day, Cas says, “I talked to my family.”His real family. The angelic one. Right. Because Cas is an angel.Yeah, and then all hell breaks loose.(All heaven, really. It’s complicated.)
