Jackie nodded. “Very well. A very long time ago, there was a girl named Noriko. She was, in almost every respect, a normal girl, with no real outstanding abilities. No psychic abilities, no superpowers, just a girl that learned the meaning of the phrase ‘hard work and guts’. She wanted to be a good pilot, she wanted it so bad, that she trained and trained until she became the pilot of humanity’s ultimate fighting machine, Gunbuster, along with her idol. Humanity, at the time, was fighting a race of monsters from space named creatively ‘space monsters’. Things weren’t looking really good, as no matter what humanity fielded, there were just so many Space Monsters that it would eat away at our resources.
"Then, when Noriko started fighting with Gunbuster, believed in herself and what she could do… things started changing. Ultimately, it was realized that the Space Monsters were an immune system of a sort of the galaxy, which had deemed humanity a hostile disease. So humanity did the only thing it could: it created a black hole bomb out of Jupiter, and sent their fleet on one last desperate mission. The mission was nearly a failure at the worst possible moment, but Noriko sacrificed any chance of ever seeing those she loved for the greater good of humanity, and restored it to function at the cost of missing out on 12,000 years. It was because of her actions that humanity continued living. And that’s how a normal 16-year-old girl defeated a galaxy."
