In Crimson Mourning

(A small gpose comic I felt proud enough about that I wanted to post it here, too.)

I saw this poem on Tumblr that made me think of the story I usually call bodyguard AU. In it, Hien and Bram meet as children shortly after Bram's mother dies and Bram is taken into the palace as a companion to Hien's studies. Lord Kaien and Hien's mother are still alive and become very fond of him as well.

When they get older, Bram and Hien begin to fall in love, though Bram is initially hesitant because he thinks Hien probably shouldn't be pairing off with a commoner. Hien insists he doesn't care. They begin a tumultuous and very secret relationship.

Bram tells Hien everything and vice versa: save for one singular matter. Bram's absent father is an imperial soldier and what began as a childhood lie born of shame becomes a pretense he carries with him for nearly a decade. He doesn't think it matters. His father is gone. But when Hector resurfaces during an attempted assassination of Lord Kaien, Hien is betrayed.

Despite having never been anything but loyal in the extreme and having only recently sworn an oath to serve Hien as Gosetsu did Lord Kaien, Bram's fealty is called into question by Lord Kaien and he is thrown into the palace gaol while the truth is investigated. Hien has to cope with the apparent loss of his nearest and dearest friend. Bram has to deal with the only lie he ever told robbing him of all he's ever loved.

Im so obsessed with how the Arcadion announcer is responsive to the party’s performance. It’s a small detail but there’s something SO funny about doing your rotation mindlessly hacking away at the boss and you hear something behind you and the announcer goes YOUR TEAMMATE DIED YOUR FUCKING TEAMMATE IS ON THE F L O O R.

This is the detail that sold me on the whole raid series, honestly. I am not the biggest fan of WWE, or "Hey, fight these fights for the sake of fighting fights," which is how Omega started out and quickly bored me. But the announcer commentating on your raid's performance is delightful. I noticed, too, that while I was tanking, every time both tanks successfully mitigated a tankbuster, the crowd cheered louder. That's adorable.

And also, this means they have variables for tracking players passing or failing mechanics. I can't. I can't even tell you how exciting that is. In theory, that means Squeenix could get hard data on exactly how often players fail to avoid each specific type of attack and use that to make adjustments for the next tier.

But definitely the fact that they use this tech to troll you for dying is the best part. 12/10 no notes.
