In the name of black love films and no black trauma. I'm a major cinephile when it comes to the black love genre and make it a big deal to support black love in film and TV. We need more positive story lines that don't involve gang life, death, racism and endless pain. And if you didn't know I'm a total sap... Here's a few more of my favorite films and recommendations. Beyond the Lights (another film from Gina Prince Blythewood cause she doesn't miss ever. I loved the storyline of this film, its critique of the industry and packaging of female entertainers and will always remember the experience of watching it in a theater full of black people who collectively cheered when the main character removed her oppressive weave. š) Jumping the Broom Southside with You, a story of President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama's first date. Beautifully done. Sylvie's Love Think Like a Man, not entirely only black love but it was a cute feel good film. Probably better than the book I'd bet for sure. Wishing you all the warm lovey dovey feels as a form of self care. š #blackloveinfilm #blackcinema #shadowandact #beyondthelights #southsidewithyou #sylvieslove #jumpingthebroom Instagram cropping is annoying. š https://www.instagram.com/p/COCOPuTHaIM/?igshid=1nscmvne4u740

I had no idea Medicine for Melancholy was a Barry Jenkins film until today.... now we all know who Barry Jenkins is by now I hope. *Please donāt reblog if you condone whitewashing, racial slurs, BLACKFACE or otherwise post white people and celebrities who have done these things. This post is meant to celebrate black men, specifically dark-skinned black men, not be a token splash of color in an otherwise white archive. Thank you in advance!*
One more time, if you can overlook racism towards black people, period, but especially by your white faves only objectify (condone the objectification off) black men then move the fuck onĀ I will not be polite if I have to check you for ignoring this caption.

I'm so excited about this moment. Inauguration day 2021. We get a vice president that is a woman of color, biracial of south asian and black heritage. I'm thrilled about the excitement that little black and brown girls will get from seeing her sworn into office today as the first woman vice president, the first VP of color. These girls will know they can be anything they wish and a glass ceiling isn't the limit nor is a box. Seeing helps believing and Kamala is one of many beautiful examples we've been given in recent years of women of color. I love seeing these little girls celebrate her and smile. I'm excited of what this means for black and brown adult women, even as adults seeing representation of yourself or someone you can identify with just does something beautiful. I love seeing women celebrate and dress up and smile after these past 4 tumultuous years and the heartbreak of 2020 and covid still making the country unsafe and taking loved ones. I'm excited alot of people are being given a chance to smile after fearing for their lives and being targets of hatred. I'm excited about something new and we will see how it goes. For all representation purposes, I'm thrilled to just enjoy this moment in history. #kamalaharris #thevplookslikeme #representationmatters #girlscandream #myvplookslikeme https://www.instagram.com/p/CKREYQMH2di/?igshid=1omff4e857k43
Shut up. I needed a kitten stealing a pancake on my blog.
Honestly, if you donāt need a kitten stealing a pancake on your blog, it had better be because you already have a kitten stealing a pancake on your blog.

She's One of the Boys ; The Struggle of Women Who LoveĀ Theology
There is surely a struggle being a minority woman of faith who began to care deeply for theology and scripture.Ā I have learned this all too well. In current times, if you talk to a Christian woman under the age of 40, much of your conversations and focus will probably be on āfinding your Boazā, accomplishing her destiny or manifesting her dreams.
Years ago, I was once there too, minus theā¦

āYouāve got to finish thisā, my co worker had just read my blog post about the tough time I was in finding a connection to my faith four or five years ago.
That time was very interesting to say the least, and that time of the journey had filled me with skepticism and irritation.Ā Quite literally I felt like a mess, and that post probably reads like one too.

So Black film and film in general is something I enjoy. Saw Queen and Slim @queenandslim last night after seeing much conversation about it. Alot of things going on in the film, things to appreciate and heavy moments for sure. I wondered was it a Black film specifically and wondered how the storyline would work if they decided to make it with white characters and a different plotline. How connected are we to Black Triumph? This film gave us some beautiful things with the character of Queen who was tough and no nonsense, and slowly allowing us to see why as the film goes on. I'd say its surely worth a watch. Anybody else seen it and want to discuss sometime? š https://www.instagram.com/p/B50WjiRHy0_r_L9wNzHFtPRyqXcw0Y8eU5_qmc0/?igshid=6rn4muqvmbq8
