Oh, idk, maybe because you want to run a gpt partition table because mbr is limiting but your machine lacks proper EFI boot support so you have to build a legacy mbr partition for the BIOS to find which defines the volume for the second stage software bootloader for EFI partitions?

Not that I'm speaking from incredibly frustrated personal experience or anything...
