this is very important. just because someone has a psychotic illness doesn’t mean that completely overwrites their human rights to bodily autonomy. i’m schizophrenic and managing without any psychotropic medications. i took them for 8 years of my life, and they fucked my health and life up immensely despite “managing” my symptoms. through learning my own skills and following a recovery model rather than a medication model for my healing and active management of my illness, i have never been more stable.

i’ve had so many doctors tell me to my face that they wouldn’t treat me unless i was on medication, that programs couldn’t accept me unless i agreed to medication management, and i’ve been asked to my face if i’d “really rather my symptoms than be on medication” by non-psychotic professionals doubting the authenticity of my diagnosis and presentation and assuming i was denying medication for the sake of garnering attention.

if i hadn’t stood my ground and weened myself off in order to seek a model of care and management through cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis (cbt-p), modified dbt therapy and psychodynamic therapy tools and skills, i would probably not be as successful, functional or as Well as i am now. the stereotype that medication is the ONLY treatment for psychotic illnesses ruins lives.

don’t let people try and control you and your own treatment or management or autonomy just because of your diagnosis, or because you don’t present to them as someone they think your diagnosis should look like.

Water is way more hydrating than soda, but soda is more hydrating than nothing. A balanced meal is way more nutritious than ice cream, but ice cream is more nutritious than nothing.

Something is better than nothing. Some hydration is better than no hydration. Some nutrients are better than no nutrients. Some produce is better than no produce.

Don't let societally imposed food guilt trick you into believing that nothing is a better choice. Nourishing your body, however you can, is always the better choice. Fed is best. Always.

I hate how neurodivergent has been watered down to "just adhd and autism".......

The community MADE to be inclusive of ALL atypical brain functions.... Has turned exclusive/gatekeeping at worst and watered down to 2 single conditions at best...

I'll see people call an experience neurodivergent when it's exclusively an autism experience.... And when I point out that ND isn't just adhd and autism, I get told it's "not a big deal" and "who said it wasn't???? huhhh????"

Like.... gods FORBIDDDDD a neurodivergent who's more than AuDHD.... DARE talks about feeling excluded from their OWN community!!!

For reference, aside from adhd and autism, i have many personality disorders and am schizospec..... I've tried talking about my schizo and pd experiences before in a post and got people in my inbox telling me to "stop clogging the neurodivergent tags when I'm not neurodivergent" and i just deleted all the posts I made cause I couldn't handle the harassment and it gave me a really bad panic attack.....

Also... by "clogging"... I made like 3 posts at most. Which were me talking about my distress of people not tagging horror elements and the horror elements triggered my psychosis and paranoia....

This is ableism which is most likely perpetuated by rigid thinking from certain neurodivergencies.

schizophrenic people are constantly made to be a joke or a quirky edgy meme in recent years and it actually makes me insane. psychosis as a word has become watered down last year there was people “schizoposting” people joke about hallucinating or unreality because they think its funny and god forbid an actual schizophrenic person posts about their experiences because then you get people dming you with scary images and cryptic text to try to induce psychosis like that cant fucking kill someone i hate all of you people
