Proof of concept could create electronic displays on contact lenses - Taking augmented reality to the next level
A polymer film coating with the ability to turn contact lenses into computer screens is set to transform the wearable visual aids into the next generation of consumer electronics.
Scientists from the University of South Australia’s Future Industries Institute have successfully completed “proof of concept” research on a polymer film coating that conducts electricity on a contact lens, with the potential to build miniature electrical circuits that are safe to be worn by a person.
UniSA researcher from the FII, Associate Professor Drew Evans said the technology was a “game changer” and could provide one of the safest methods to bring people and their smart devices closer together.

ABSTRACT
Prompted by the rapidly developing field of wearable electronics, research into biocompatible substrates and coatings is intensifying. Acrylate-based hydrogel polymers have gained widespread use as biocompatible articles in applications such as contact and intraocular lenses. Surface treatments and/or coatings present one strategy to further enhance the performance of these hydrogels or even realize novel functionality. In this study, the conductive polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) is deposited from the vapor phase onto hydrated hydrogel substrates and blended with biocompatibilizing coconstituents incorporating polyethylene glycol (PEG) and polydimethyl siloxane (PDMS) moieties. Plasma pretreatment of the dehydrated hydrogel substrate modifies its surface topography and chemical composition to facilitate the attachment of conductive PEDOT-based surface layers. Manipulating the vapor phase polymerization process and constituent composition, the PEDOT-based coating is engineered to be both hydrophilic (i.e. to promote biocompatibility) and highly conductive. The fabrication of this conductively coated hydrogel has implications for the future of wearable electronic devices.

This was done in a chaotic arrangement, so no particular order.
The light of his phone’s screen reflecting on the glass window caught the man’s gaze and once he read the reply he got from his little brother, he couldn’t wait to jump out of the train and take his car to Damian’s residence. It was rare for Damian to use the word please, it made JiSub happy for some odd reason. Within twenty minutes, he was parking his car outside the building. He didn’t know how he got there, his safety in arriving was thanks to his subconscious mind that got him to his destination. He rang the bell and waited for his brother’s face to greet him. “Sorry, I thought this was Damian’s residence. I got the wrong place.” JiSub teased his brother then trapped him in a tight hug. “Man, I missed you.” He messed up his brother’s hair and smiled at him. “It truly feels like home only with you.”
He felt small. Not in size, or in spirit. Just small. Like he went back to the time where he was 5 or 7 and would often cling to his brother. “I’m trying to act as a grown up.” he whispered, returning the tight hug of his brother with equal force. “I missed you too, hyung.” he replied, pulling off the hug and giving his brother a smile, though it was much weaker than the usual ones the boy had. He stepped aside and let his brother enter the apartment. “You’re alone?” he then asked, looking over his brother. He did want to be alone with the older, but he also thought the other would bring company with him.
A chance to escape did not appear until two hours after the gift was delivered to his brother, thanks to the person who delivered it for keeping JiSub updated. The professor excused himself finally and told them he had just returned from his stay abroad and needed to spend whatever was left of the day with his brother and that’s when they told him the younger of the siblings was with them the day before. Ji Sub looked crossed for a moment then bowed to the elders and wished everyone the best then left to the train station where he was supposed to board a train directly to Seoul. The trip was going to take him two hours and an additional thirty minutes to drive to Damina’s house.
Why would he brother not tell him he was planning to visit the family? The only reason JiSub visited them alone was because the younger did not seem willing to spend any time with them when he asked him. They will need to talk about that when they meet, but it was late and he was probably better off visiting the younger the following day. Did you fall asleep yet? Should I come tomorrow? He sent Damian a message when the train was close to Seoul’s station. If he did not receive a reply, he was going to go back to the hotel and spend the night.
The hacker ended up waking up every now and then and on one of the waking ups he stood up to pick his phone and leave it next to his head, then he lied back again. He couldn’t fall asleep again, but he didn’t do anything else either. He just laid down on the couch and stared blankly at nothing in particular. His friend was right, it surely didn’t sound bad, but the family visits always had a huge toll on Damian. And it was not because of his parents, the black haired male had a good relationship with them. It was not even his grandma, who may have been harsh with him, but she still tried to accept her grandson for who he was. The main problem was the general.
The phone’s buzz took the male out of his trance and he reached to see the message. His older brother was finally released as it seemed. 'Please come now. I have plans for tomorrow too.’ he replied to the older. Damian felt helpless, and he hated being like this. He also hated the feeling of needing to see his elder brother. He wanted to see him, but now he also need to do so too. “Just come...” he whispered, lying on his stomach and resting his head on his folded hands.
@dhjonesxblv
Breaking a promise wasn’t a big deal, but not when the promise was one he made to his brother. It wasn’t a promise, but he gave him his word to spend the day with him yet he couldn’t manage to do so. While Damian had no intention to see the family, Ji Sub was the dutiful son who had to catch the first train to his grandparents house and pay his respect to the elders. It did not matter whether he liked them or not, it was a duty. The events of that day kept him there despite his unwillingness. Ji Sub messaged the only person who could help him make the day more meaningful for his brother until he manages to escape the trap he walked into willingly. Upon his instructions, two boxes of gifts were delivered to Damian’s address. The first gift box had a painting of both brothers sitting next to each other. The card that came along with it read: I got it when I was in Poland, a street artist drew it after I gave him a picture of you. I missed you. Merry Christmas, dongsaeng. The second gift was in a smaller box and had a telecommunication ring that had more than just a phone and a miniature camera built into it. I miss when picking a gift for you wasn’t as complicated.
Damian had left the picture he was sent by his brother next to the television in his apartment and was sitting on the couch staring at it. The ring was left on the coffee table, and even if the hacker wondered where his older brother got it from he didn’t ponder much. He had sworn to himself not to dig around his family. He sighed, and his hand moved to his phone that was in between two coffee cups, to check for the time. He didn’t want to bother to clean them, and he didn’t had the will either. After yesterday night’s dinner at his grandparents Damian wasn’t exactly in the best of moods, and the person who was his company earlier surely managed to notice it too.
Seeing how late it got the male tossed his phone harshly over the plastic coffee table, the device sliding along it and falling on the floor, but the male didn’t bother with it either. He just lied on the couch, turning his back to the painting and to the phone on the floor; to the two used cups. He wasn’t in the mood for anything right now. He never was around Christmas, or rather — around family meetings. He figured Jisub went to visit their parents who came to Korea and their grandparents and he got held up there. If the day was any other Damian would’ve gotten dressed and went two, but he was not so stupid to suffer Christmas Eve’s dinner twice. He was just going to nap. If his brother wanted to come, he would wake up then.
“No, not deep at all but you never know… Shit happens sometimes.” Watching him bow, she almost felt obligated to bow in return, yet settles to tip her head down modestly instead. “You new around here or something?” Jinae speaks without a filter, realizing only soon after that she really may not need to ask unimportant questions. Just get the man something for his hands and be on her way. She tucks her hands away into her pockets. Nudging his arm with her elbow, she begins to walk straight ahead away from the incident. “This way,”
“I am lucky, so it won’t get worse.” he sounded confident, which most of the times, including now, was the case. And like most of the times now too he had no base for that confidence. Once the female started walking, he turned around and followed after her. “I just moved around here. The neighborhood seemed not so rushed— speaking of which I am still in Noryangjin right?” he reached to feel his jacket for his phone, and half the way he decided it was a bad idea to do that. First because of his hands, second because his phone was on such low baterry that it would refused to load the map and show him where he was. If the device still worked. “Do you think I would be able to charge my phone a bit at that store we’re headed to?”
at his words, hongbin stopped moving in his seat, still only to think. honestly, he had no clue what he wanted to do first. there were so many things to do. there were so many shops to visit and though hongbin had gone there many times (even once for a clothes promotion), he hadn’t even visited every destination presented in that district. ❝ a better idea would be you telling me your thoughts of conquer. ❞
A lot of thoughts went past Damian’s mind. Silly ones. And imagining both of the do two of those made the male giggle and shake his head. “Don’t try to get out of it. You will be the king, you give out the orders. Besides I asked first, and I am the older of us to. Be respectful and answer your hyung before you ask.” it was rare for Damian to not went off into his monologues filled with ideas. But his mind really was tired and for a change he wanted to hear someone else’s ideas first.

He was no stranger to the wall of designs done by the handful of artists in the studio but that didn’t mean his interest in them ever waned. They were created so vividly that it was hard not to reach out and touch, to trace the framed works with the tips of his fingers and be reminded of the introductory tat he’d ever received, the quiet hum of the needle as it embedded his first into his skin. His hands didn’t stray from his sides but his attention did as the other spoke.
“Makes sense to me. I’m sure they’ll help you figure it out and the consultations here are actually pretty fun here.” He returned the smile with a reassuring one of his own, continuing with a tap at his clothed shoulder. “Getting a touch-up. Old faithful here is fading.”
The other male’s expression perplexes him until he starts with a belated introduction and he has to laugh before meeting the extended hand halfway, “Victor. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Damian.”
They’re interrupted by the familiar, telltale click of heels via one of the female tattooists arriving at the reception desk, greeting them and eyeing Victor curiously at the stranger she must assume he walked in with. She questions what they’re there for and motions them to join her in the space filled with multiple chairs and a slew of supplies behind the desk. “Make yourself comfortable, I’m just going to go get the other slacker in the back.”
Victor. Damian repeated in his head after they were interrupted. Truthfully, he couldn’t remember how many people did he meet in Korea who had a foreign name, just like himself, but he was sure they could be counted on the fingers of his one hand. He wanted to ask where the other came from, if he was just like Damian was, or if maybe his parents just had a kick for foreign names. He was just curious, he always was curious.
Once the worker went to the back, Damian just nodding at his words and took a seat. Once he did that he turned his attention back to the male he walked in with. “Perhaps, were you born and raised out of Korea? In my case it’s that. Ah, if you want to you don’t have to answer me, it’s just that it’s rare for me to meet Koreans with foreign names.” the black haired male went on blabbering, resting his head on his hand. Once his question was out his mind went back on to the idea of getting another part of his skin tattooed. He had considered countless possibilities about it, about what he wanted. Now he just had to order his thoughts so he could convey them best to the artist and get proper help.
Kikwang chuckled as a grin spread of his features. He threw threw the ball over to the taller male. “Bring it on then.” He closely watched the other move, though even if he hadn’t said it it was clear that he had more experience in basketball than just random friendly games. His eyes were on the ball as some fake passes followed but all of a sudden a real one came and before he knew it the other had passed him like a breeze. He turned around and watched the ball go to the ring and then.. bounce off. The younger male burst out, a chuckle following right after a scoff. “You played in a team you said?” He shook his head as he caught the ball and walked back with it. “We’ll see about that.” His voice was calm again and so was his body language. He dribbled forward a little with the ball and then went for a fake pass followed by a real one to try to pass the male to then shoot.
“I played in a team.” he confidently admitted, with a nod of his head. He played in a team long long ago, and since then most of his games were solo plays against himself. He thought it would be best if he doesn’t mention that part, so instead of going on to talk, he focused on the male’s movements. By his stance Damian could tell the other was in for attack, so he paid extra close attention. He saw it coming, the fake pass, but he missed his chance to steal the ball during it, and with it the other male managed to pass by him. Damian quickly turned to chase after the male and tried to swerve the ball away from him, ending up pushing it into a foul. “My bad, my bad.” he chuckled out and skipped to pick up the ball, passing it back to Kikwang, since he was the one who pushed the ball out of the lining.
Peering down at the male’s hands as he holds them out, she stuffs her hands into her pockets and nods. “You’ll have to get the dirt out of there before anything infects.” At the request for help, Jinae cocks a brow, lifting her gaze up to his. She wonders what he’s doing out this late at night anyway. The streetlights have been dimmed, leaving the street hard to see through, which would explained why he would have so easily tripped. “Um, yeah, I can. We’ll see if there’s a convenience store anywhere. I know some that should be open around this time. Hopefully they’ll have something there we can use on your hands.”
“Aigo, come on. It’s not that deep of a wound to get infected.” Damian laughed out loud and tried to dust off his hands a bit. He looked at the female then, giving her a smile and after some time remembering how his manners were not exactly native-like, as one of his friends kindly reminded him once. He bowed down to the black haired woman. “Thank you very much. To be honest, I have no idea what is where around here. I will need to learn, but since I am so bad with directions it will take some time. Ah, anywhere, where to? For that convenience store.”
