in the whole greenland conversation i feel like there's not nearly enough acknowledgement of the fact that greenland is already suffering under imperial rule. seeing wayyyyy too much tacit validation of denmark's possession of greenland on socials today. look into reproductive abuse against greenland inuit women by the danish state. US acquisition of greenland would be bad but the status quo is not good. this is not a matter of sovereignty, i only wish it were a matter of sovereignty, it's just a bunch of imperial powers playing RISK with indigenous people's lives again

This is misrepresenting the danger and how much Greenland has to lose if the US invasion were to happen. If you want to learn about the current political status of Greenland this is a pretty good link from a Danish government website. Although Denmarks colonial rule of Greenland has absolutely included many atrocities, (like the IUD case OP alluded to) and there are still absolutely real issues with racism against Greenlanders in Denmark, the current form of governance of Greenland gives them a large amount of self determination as a country AND access to independence if it is decided in national elections.

Before Trump started talking about invading Greenland the conversation about independence was actually pretty nuanced. Most people in Greenland want independence, but it is difficult to untangle a lot of things like Danish government investment in Greenland and how they would stand with regards to the EU and more. The general idea was that they would get independence sometime in our lifetimes.

US invasion would take ALL OF THIS away from them. There would be NO path to independence and NO self rule. They would also lose access to the benefits of being EU citizens, with free education, free healthcare and more.

The status quo is not good but the alternative is a lot worse in every single way.

Danish control over Greenland is far from perfect but the US wants to turn Greenland into a company town. ICE is trying to force Native American tribes to sign immigration agreements while the Danish government is trying to make amends for past harm. "Both sides are the same" is bullshit.
