Last week I had the opportunity to see Bajofondo at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. This was the first time I’ve come to see them and to the venue. Being a very intimate space, I was fairly close to the stage and I could see virtually everything very clear. I remember the first time I heard of them, it was because of the song named “El mareo” a collaboration between Bajofondo and the late Gustavo Cerati. Then I followed one of the member’s work as a score composer, Mr. Gustavo Santaolalla. I wasn’t sure what to expect and I left pleasantly surprised as I became one of many of their fans during the two hours the concert lasted.
The magical way all of the instruments combined together, they melt into a whole new concept,it was almost like they were creating a brand new genre called “bajofondo”. And even when they were so well mixed together, you could still listen every single instrument, from the beautiful bandoneon to the powerful vocals of Mr. Santaolalla. Being united under el sol de mayo (may’s sun) this argentine-uruguayan group will take you on a journey to Rio de la Plata you wouldn’t want to come back from. They feel the music under their skin and make you feel it as well. The best part was that I confirmed something that I already knew, Bajofondo, specially Gustavo, not only play music for those in the front, they play for everybody, even those who are way in the back.

Jorge Luis Borges.
