“Oh… it’s you.” Blinking, he’s a little surprised to see such an eccentric character out of the ‘big top’, as it were called – as if such a personality only existed in that space, and couldn’t truly exist in the world. Certainly… 9S had known some characters, but few of them with that kind of life. Perhaps because none of them were truly alive in the first place.

“I already told you, I’m not interested in joining your circus. I, uuuuh… don’t know about 2B.” While 2B might be more physically capable than he was, in terms of performance – he was definitely more prone to showiness and dramatics… though perhaps less so, after everything.

Glancing away evasively, he shrugs. Sure, 9S was nothing but curious… but he ended up at the planetarium for some feeling in his chest as well. “I’m just looking around here, you know? It’s not like I meant to actually do anything…”

“Oh...it’s you.” Cerebella’s tone was less surprise and more suspicion. The one and only time she saw this boy, he was snooping around Cirque Diamant. Not a great first impression, but somehow, it turned out okay...especially when she learned his friend Two Bee was a wrestler. What a great stage name! It must have come from how her two fists stung like a bee.

“Don’t worry, I understand. But the door is always open if you change your mind. And we would never deny a superstar wrestler from joining, either!” She winked at him.

It was pure coincidence that the two of them happened to meet in front of the planetarium. Cerebella hadn’t planned to go to the planetarium, but he seemed to want to go.

With a grin, she patted 9S’ back, pushing him forward. “I heard the planetarium’s a good time. I’ll pay for your ticket if you want. Wouldn’t want you walking in in without paying, right?” Teasing him, she went onward with a ‘let’s go!’

Maybe if she befriended him, it would be easier for her to meet the legendary double bee.

 Well, if there was ever a time to get a pleasant surprise, this was as good as any. (Even if it did make her suddenly aware of her exposed feet and thighs with that momentary glance to each in turn.)

 “Ahaha… I wasn’t aware it was particularly strange to go without shoes until people in Hoshido pointed it out to me. My big sister Camilla wears something rather similar, so I tend to think it normal to show some skin even just as a matter of comfort.”

 “…Performance? I can’t say I’ve entertained the idea, I must admit.” It was an interesting idea, at the least, but what would her family think of a princess acting as a jester would? Granted, they were also against her fighting, and look where she ended up. “What would it entail? Perhaps I shall give it a try, if you’d be able to help me!”

Showing off skin was (both willingly and not) part of Cerebella’s everyday circus life. You couldn’t help the crowd seeing a little bit of you when you had to flip and spin to impress them, right? She understood what the girl meant as far as comfort goes, though.

Okay, well, Cerebella didn’t understand why armor had to be airy, but to each their own.

Nodding, she approached the girl with a step.

“Depending on what you’d like to try, there’s a lot of variety!” Counting on her fingers, she begins to enumerate. “Juggling, acrobatics, contortion, stilt walking, animal taming, the globe of death--actually, I don’t think you should ride a motorcycle-- fire breathing, sword swallowing...” Taking another step towards her, Cerebella is now pretty close.

“And if you need any coaching, I will dedicate all. My. Time. To you. So how about it?” Can you really refuse this beautiful girl’s smile?

          “ What? No way! “ She didn’t go to school and become the top student just to be called an actor! “ I made Crescent Rose with my own hands! They’re my greatest invention! “ Oh, yes it is, the perfect little thing, she loves it with all of her heart…

          Anyway.

          “ It’s nice to meet you, Cerebella! My name’s Ruby! Ruby Rose. “

          “ Get ready! “

          Giving it a twirl, Ruby readies her scythe, before just. What. Disappearing? Where did she go? How did she do that? 

          How did she get behind you like that, Cerebella?

          She won’t try to cut off any limbs today, so Ruby settles for using the blunt side of her weapon, using it as a club to land a quick ( but still painful ) hit on the back of Cerebella and Vice Versa’s head.

Get ready?

One moment, the girl-- Ruby Rose-- was there, and then she blinked. Where was she-- ow. A sharp pain in the back of her head, which Vice-Versa promptly communicated to Cerebella. I know, it hurts me too!

She turned around to face this red devil. Right after Cerebella had just boasted about how much better she’d be in a fight than her...frustrating and embarrassing, to say the least.

And she loved it.

“...Feisty, aren’t we?” She had too much pride to rub the back of her head, but the sting was still there. “I admit, you do seem to have what it takes to make for interesting spars.”

“H-huh…? These packages…?” Well, perhaps Chihiro had gotten a little overconfident with them, after one delivery, but… deflating in self-imposed humiliation, he didn’t think he was handling it so badly that someone would have to help out. Sure enough, he’d gotten the carrying part down this time just fine, arms full… though he couldn’t really see where he was going.

As loathe as he was to admit it, yet again, perhaps she wasn’t wrong. Adjusting the bundles in his arms, he peers up at her over the top of the pile, face flushed. Really… shouldn’t he be able to handle this? “Uum… that’s…” Time and time again, he guessed he would be proved horribly weak after all, even if this stranger obviously meant well. He glances to one side. “I-I’m really doing fine! Honest! But, one of these shouldn’t be shaken around too much, so… if you could carry that one and make sure it doesn’t move, it’d probably be okay.”

If he could still carry the heavier stuff – if he could pretend he could manage just that on his own – couldn’t he survive with his dignity intact? “Uum… it’s the small one on the top.” With that flimsy excuse justifying it to himself, he can’t help feeling he’s just inconveniencing others again. “S-sorry…”

Cerebella had been stuck with these delivery jobs for a little bit now. After all, while there were a lot of people in the city who could defend themselves, not everyone had skills applicable to transporting goods. It wasn’t the most exciting, sure, but it was good workout.

Still not as good as kicking zombie ass, but good workout nonetheless. Besides, Vice-Versa loved showing off just as much as Cerebella. It was a golden opportunity (except he couldn’t turn skeletons into diamonds, but that was a detail).

“Don’t fret it. Just remember it’s alright to ask for help.” Vice-Versa extended an arm to get the box he was mentioning. At least, his view was less obstructed now. “And don’t worry, Vicey is gentle when he needs to be.” Cerebella gave a few pats on her hat’s other arm. “So, where are we taking this? I don’t mind making a detour if I need to.”

      Truth be told, Himiko has no idea how to shop for herself. Her basket has all sorts of sugary items in it (the essentials), but there’s this one brand of cereal she can’t seem to reach… Then, without realizing it, her eyes glanced over at a person shopping in the same aisle as her.

      Now this person was a performer. At least, she’s assuming. Something about her hat seems special (magic?), but the likes of it are too foreign for Himiko to truly identify. She’s been running into all sorts of characters lately, so she doesn’t see the problem with adding another to the pile.

      Besides, she wants to touch that hat. It looks like it can get her up to that pesky shelf she can’t reach anyway.

      “… Can you lift me up?” Again, she has not learned from her previous encounters, and is just going to be blunt about it. Is she trying to talk to the hat…? “I’m trying to get to something I need, and I don’t have enough magic to lift myself up that high.”

Yawn.

That’s what you get when you forget to do groceries and have nothing to make for breakfast the next morning. Ugh. Eggs? Toast? Milk? Cerebella should probably think about this week’s other meals too or else she’s going to have to come back again.

And now, in front of an isle dedicated to breakfast cereals, she was asking herself which of the countless varieties she should try. That is, until someone called out to her: a short girl asking for a lift up.

Should you really be using magic to get items on shelves, anyway? It was too early in the morning to have this discussion.

And then, her hat grew two very burly arms. For Cerebella, this was normal. For anyone else? Not so.

“If you’re not scared of heights...” One of Vice-Versa’s arm lowered to the ground, palm facing up. “Come on, hop on!”

          “ That has got to weigh a ton! “ Maybe not literally, but Ruby knows how much she can carry in her own arms, and this is way above that bracket. Like. Extremely so. The girl shoots a zombie that had been slowly approaching Cerebella, before skipping back to pick up her own diminutive little bag of supplies. “ How long has Vice Versa been lifting? I should really adopt his workout schedule. “

“Of course! We’re both pretty strong, but Vicey takes the cake.” The Living Weapon looked happy, showing off how they could juggle these crates, which was a bad idea for whatever was inside of them. Cerebella shrugged, carrying a few things herself.

“He’s been at it for over a decade now. He started with small things like tree trunks and motorcycles but now he’s up to elephants and huge boulders!”

          Oh, man, the expression the other gave was just rich. With something– rather, someone, that could move and respond to questions, you’d expect that the other would know that Vice-Versa was their own person. Especially if she could say that the two of them were best friends. “ They’re a whole heck of a Living Weapon, I know, I know. “

          Now it’s Ruby’s turn to laugh. “ Oh, don’t worry about that! I can take care of myself no problem. “ With a theatrical flare of her hands, the girl pulls out Crescent Rose, giving it a few spins before pulling at its trigger and unfurling it to it’s full size. “ See! “

          “ This isn’t for show, Miss…. uh–  “ No names?! She forgot introductions!

Vice-Versa seemed happy at the girl’s compliment; Cerebella smiled, nodding.

“You’re looking at the diamond dynamo, star of the big top, Cerebella!” Vice-Versa’s arms retracting, she bowed down and took off her hat.

“And that’s why I don’t think sparring is a good idea for you, little red riding hood.”

Maybe the girl wasn’t as harmless as Cerebella first thought but she still had her doubts, flashy weapon theatrics or not. “Are you sure this big scythe isn’t just for show? You mentioned sparring: how about trying to land a hit on me first, then we’ll talk about a spar.”

This scythe was large, but no way was this a practical weapon...and there was even less of a chance that it was as strong as Vice-Versa! This may make for a light workout session, so she might as well make it count.

✎ — Of course this situation had found a way to develop into something even more bizarre. Once informed of this new zombie threat from those who called themselves Asphodel and Snapdragon, Shuichi stepped foot into the city that had now been seemingly declared a danger zone, deciding that he needed to determine the truth for himself. It hadn’t seemed like a terrible idea at first— regardless of whether there really were zombies or not, he needed to know what was happening. Perhaps this could bring him even closer to the truth behind the mysteries of this city…

“A-Ah—!”

However, the detective couldn’t help letting out a yelp upon finally sighting the vile beings. Alerted by the noise, a few zombies began to steadily close in on him. Preoccupied with frantically looking for an escape route or a way to defend himself, Shuichi remained unaware of a nearby presence…

Is this the work of the Skullheart?

Perhaps it was, perhaps it wasn’t. Either way, things were dangerous for everyone around the city, and Cerebella wanted to make sure that nothing troublesome happened to the circus. This meant warding off any undead creatures -- from zombies to skeletons -- that approached its viscinity.

It was per chance that she saw the boy seemingly in trouble. Using Vice-Versa, she broke off and picked up a large piece of pavement (surely the city wouldn’t mind, this was an emergency).

“FORE!”

Taking a step forward, she chucked the large piece at the mass of zombies. It was almost comical to see how the skeletons exploded on contact with the concrete, while the zombies seemingly vanished out of existence. Maybe she overdid it.

Without missing a beat, she jumped into the fray, throwing out of the way whatever spooky creatures blocked her path to the kid.

“Don’t worry, this show’s on the house!”

Cerebella took a fighting stance. She wasn’t called the ultimate showstopper for no reason.

     She’s never seen a circus before– never seen the colorful tents nor those tricks the performers acted out so perfectly. Watching this show was a new experience for the young satori! It filled her with a fresh perspective of the world. In fact, you could say it was an entirely different scene compared to what she’s experienced in Gensokyo. And seeing her friend at the center of it all… It was quite the entertaining time.

     “Oh, Cere! Looks like I found this mystical Cirque Diamant you mentioned.” It was almost as if she had appeared from thin air, though truly she’d been standing outside the crowds and in the actual field for longer than one would think. Of course, Koishi was nonchalant about that fact, humming carefree as she observes one of the nearby animals up close.

     It was surprising how little the tiger seemed to mind her presence, actually. Though it seemed slightly… afraid of her? “Ah, it looks like lots of fun. I don’t think I’d be able to teach my pets the tricks you do here. Or rather, they would have no interest in doing them…”

Cirque Diamant wasn’t as prestigious as Cirque des Cartes, but Cerebella was proud of how much she’d helped the troupe ever since she joined them. Always a hard worker, it wasn’t uncommon for her to be practicing even on her days off.

Today was one such day, but she didn’t expect a small girl to visit her-- especially since she was sure all entrances were locked. Well, whatever, she must have overlooked something. This kid didn’t seem like a thief...even stranger, she seemed to know her?

“I suppose you must have seen the posters.” Smiling, Cerebella took off her hat in apology. “Sorry, the performance isn’t until later this week, you must have misread the date.”

“If your animals have no interest in learning tricks, it’s a bad idea to force them. Are you curious about circuses? I can show you some tricks!” Bowing low, she introduced herself.

“I’m Cerebella, rising star of the circus, queen of the big top...and countless other titles.”

          {♠} —; Despite falling down towards the ground, Ouma was relatively calm. He watched as a blur headed towards him, keeping a watchful gaze upon the figure as arms turned outstretch to catch him. He couldn’t help but grin from behind the mask, knowing full well he was in capable hands.

          {♠} —; As the curtains fell, Ouma would take his mask off. He takes a bow towards the performer, and starts laughing. He wasn’t here for a simple autograph, he didn’t even know who she was! But she was simply someone who he knew was capable of lots. He always needs someone like that.

          {♠} —; “That was fantastic! You really put quite the showstopper on my little performance there! I’m not here for an autograph, however! My only purpose here was to entertain, simply put! It seems of course that I found something much, much better!”

          {♠} —; He spins around in place, pointing directly at the troupe member. That’s right! She was chosen, for who else would be a strong muscle for him? Who had saved his life? Surely, he could count on her!

          {♠} —; “You don’t know me, but from what I know your name, is Cerebella, yes?” he saw the posters outside. He has eyes. “My name is Kokichi Ouma, and I’m the Supreme Leader of a top secret organization! This is a wonderful opportunity, for I would like to extend a hand of invitation to you! We have weekly meet ups for organizational purposes, and required green tea breaks.”

Usually when someone fell from the tightrope they were much more shaken than this-- both beginners and professionals alike. Flirting with death wasn’t something most people were comfortable with, but this weird kid seemed to be just fine with it. With his demeanor, he really did seem to be an entertainer.

If he wasn’t there for an autograph, then why did he try to sneak onto the stage for? It didn’t take long for him to present himself and make his proposition.

“Sorry kid, I’m pretty busy performing in the circus, making heads turn and crowds roar.” And technically, she already was part of a secret-but-not-so-secret organisation, even if she had lost contact with them ever since showing up in this city.

“I appreciate the offer, but... should you really be talking about this organisation of yours if it’s top secret?” Cerebella crossed her arms. “I don’t want to tell you how to manage your group, but telling a stranger this seems risky.” Not like she had much of a care about his organisation’s well-being.

 The glint in this woman’s eyes was all too familiar to her - with some mention of something ‘special’ about her, she had the same expression that Camilla often wore that made Corrin wary of any and all sources of clothing nearby. Willing to take the risk and find out if there was someone else that would be patting her head relentlessly or someone to steer clear of, she decided to humour the stranger.

 “Special, you say?” she hummed. She’d been called many things before in her life, but nothing that could set her heart on edge like ‘special’ (though if that was a good or bad edge was yet to be seen.) “Would you mind elaborating?”

Of course, she didn’t mean anything bad. Cerebella might sometimes be rude, but she had the best intentions, especially with strangers.

“Yeah.” Her eyes moved up and down the girl, stopping in a few specific spots. Nodding to herself, she continued. “You look...special. Something I can’t quite put my finger on. What I can lay my eyes on is your outfit. Armored, but lacking certain key parts...” Cerebella glanced at the exposed thighs, then her feet. “...and no shoes. That’s special, if you ask me.”

“But you’re a looker. Have you ever thought about performing? I’m sure you’d be a hit in Cirque Diamant.”

          {♠} —; Performing arts were always amazing! The thrill of the theater, the suspense, action, and drama! They were all the elements that could cure Ouma of the boredom he was constantly plagued with! How else would he cure it, other than becoming a part of the act himself? In secret, of course!

          {♠} —; “Now this is the show of a lifetime folks!” 

          {♠} —; Ouma’s declaration came from the high wire, where he was promptly masked to hide his identity from onlookers. Rigging the machines was no problem for him, and he had the spotlight—for the moment anyways. Though tightrope walking was not his specialty in any way, he was more than prepared to risk his life for this show.

           {♠} —; It was a slippery slope that he should have fallen down from immediately, however Ouma’s dexterous nature allowed him to progress further than just one step. He makes it step by step, precariously peering over down to the other performers. They seemed taken aback, confused by the conundrum presented to them. Maybe this would end him up on the news? He could find some recruitment for his organization this way. Wouldn’t that be fun? Wouldn’t it be simply amazing if he could—

           {♠} —; There goes his footing, and there starts his falling. Whoops.

Tonight's performance had been going perfectly! The crowd was roaring in excitement, Cerebella and the others were in tip top shape... she hadn't had such fun in a while! It was down to the last act and for once, everything went according to script.

Until the spotlight focused on a mysterious funambulist who was not part of Cirque Diamant.

It was impressive how far he managed to get on the rope. This person must have been really skilled-- ah, nope. There he went, falling like a cannonball.

Luckily for him, Cerebella was used to performers making mistakes, even during shows. She ran, and with Vice-Versa's arms giving her a boost, she leapt through the air. Catching the masked performer in her arms, Cerebella used Vice-Versa to grab onto a hoop, using her momentum to end the rescue with a flashy flip, landing perfectly. Maybe this was better than the final act they did plan. The crowd erupted, and the curtain fell on the stage.

"If you wanted an autograph, you could have just waited after the show, you know?" She put the boy down, waiting for some sort of explanation.

          {♠} —; It was sudden. He wasn’t expecting someone to push him away from the oncoming traffic, but it seemed that his nonsense would not go about today. He wasn’t in any real danger, and even if he was he was sure that someway or another he would make it out relatively in one piece. If there was anything Kokichi Ouma was good at, it was surviving.

          {♠} —; “You saved me again! Next time you do it, can you make your hat guy do it? He looks like he could pop my arms right off! Maybe you should join my gang?”

What was this person doing in the middle of the road? No sane person would do th- oh, damn it.

“You again? Didn’t you learn not to get in trouble after last time? I won’t always be there to save you!”

“I’m sure I could have blown your arms into outer space if that was my goal, freak.” Agreeing, Vice-Versa pointed at Cerebella enthusiastically. That’s their girl.

And after that good deed, she was gone.

          This was gonna be a tough nut to crack at this rate. Ruby is the last person anyone would expect to deny one’s bond to their weapon, but even she knows that sweet darling Crescent Rose isn’t part of the waking world, as animated as it is when it’s placed in her hands. “ If they’re not a pet, then they’re a person, right? “

          “ And you two look like very good friends! “ Man, who else could pull off that much teamwork? Would wearing her teammates be fashionable, as note for a future?! Who would agree to such things…

          “ I’ve just never seen anything like them! It’d be fun to spar one day. “

Is Vice-Versa a...person? Cerebella hadn’t really considered that before. They were just...Vice-Versa, her living weapon. “I suppose Vice-Versa is a person, but they’re not a human.” Whatever to shut this girl up on at least one subject.

“Of course we’re besties! We’ve been together ever since I was a kid. Together through thick and thin, especially during performances!”

“Sparring?” The offer made her curious, but she brushed it off with a laugh. “I can’t say I’ve ever done it, but I’d crush a little girl like you. Into diamonds. I don’t think it’s a good idea, kid.”

          “ They’re your pet! “ The girl grins to herself, the proud expression on her face betraying her feelings about this whole conversation. She figured it out! Someone get her a prize. “ Vice Versa is a pretty unique name to give them, I dig it! Do you take them out for walks everyday? “ Ruby is practically shining with curiousity, head canted and hands drawn together warmly. “ Oh, do you spar too? “

          “ Man, my dog Zwei? He’s like a ‘Living Weapon’ too! Once we catapulted him and broke a bridge! “

This was getting nowhere. “Absolutely not! Living Weapons aren’t pets!” As if agreeing, Vice-Versa’s face scrunched up, its horns shaking. “They’re weapons! But they’re alive! And not just anyone can use them either.”

“Vice-Versa and I, we share a bond. Something much more respectful than that of a pet and its owner.” Hesitating for a moment, Cerebella looks up to her hat and rubs one of its arms. “...wait, would you like to go on walks together?” The skull only looked away.

“...anyway, they’re not a pet.”
