The gambler looks so natural behind the bar, mixing cocktails like it's his day job - then again, he looks natural doing most of anything Veritas has seen him do so far. Every gesture is smooth and eased, like his body simply knows what to do and he seems to go into any task with a confidence that most people will never gain in their entire lives. Of course there's a chance he has done this before; with a life like his Aventurine must find himself in all sorts of situations and preparing drinks hardly makes the list of strange deeds.

The cocktail that's placed in front of Veritas looks quite appealing. It's of a bright orange color with a syrupy layer of something dark red floating on top and bleeding into the orange blow. It's decorated with a stalk of mint and a slice of lemon and with the drops of condensate forming on the outside of the glass it promises to be refreshing. With some interest Ratio takes hold of the ridiculous curled loop straw and stirs, watching the two colors mingle.

"Before I consider trying this I'd like to know what went in it. With your luck I imagine it will taste decent enough but I won't risk you having found the one ingredient I'm allergic to."

With the talks over and done with the interesting part of the event has ended and now the evening drags on a little too slow for Veritas' liking. He's already spoken to the two people he was actually somewhat eager to exchange his proverbial notes with and now primarily passes his time getting rid of everyone else as quickly as possible with the bare minimum of politeness required to not cause a scene but still discourage them from trying to strike up a conversation again in within the next seven months.

His companion, on the other hand, is sociable as ever; his smile bright and welcoming regardless of who it is he talks to, a witty response ready for every fact or anecdote thrown at him, no matter how uninteresting or trivial. Ratio is not jealous - but he doesn't like the way they look at Aventurine and seek his attention, as if they actually care for the person behind the smile and the flashy outfit. As if they're truly interested in what's inside his mind, how he views the cosmos and his own place in it, what moves his heart or what future he dreams of.

No, they talk to him for their personal gain; because he makes them feel good and important and desired in some way, entertains them for free. He makes them feel like they deserve to be here, for who they are or what they've accomplished, and deserve to be treated like they matter in the grand scheme of things. Leeches, the lot of them. There is something to be said about those known for truly significant accomplishment often being notably absent from these events - or, at the very least, not enjoying them.

And through all of this performative nonsense Aventurine isn't by his side, isn't talking to him and letting him see that side he's caught a glimpse of when it's just the two of them - the honest thoughts and the real smile. Alright, maybe he's a little jealous! But mostly he's growing increasingly tired of the world requiring the man before him to put up this act that he wears like a second skin for so long that, by now, it takes longer to remove it than to put it on.

"Preposterous. What I am is tired of this gathering; there are no more conversations to be had that don't make me feel like I'm bleeding knowledge with every passing minute. Let's take our leave."

@amanturine sent: Aven laces his fingers with Ratio’s, moving his lips over the doctor’s skin and slowly kissing over the knuckles of his hand. One would think that as soon as he places his lips over Ratio’s palm, he might kiss him there too. But instead? He teasingly licks the skin with a fox-like smirk.

Aventurine's caresses and kisses almost carry with them a touch of reverence, his ministrations creating a sense of comfortable intimacy and Veritas finds himself reveling in the pleasant attention. It's a distraction, but a welcome one. Part of him wonders if this is leading up to something, if it's the gambler's segue into prompting some outlandish idea once he's secured his attention or if he simply felt the need for a glimpse of that tentatively growing closeness between them.

A smile almost forms on his features as he watches the other place gentle kisses onto his skin and turn his palm against his lips - but it crumbles before it ever fully takes hold of his expression. What was pleasant and gentle a moment ago has turned childish and wet in an instant and with some frustration Ratio pulls his hand out of Aventurine's grasp.

"Be serious!" he says with more indignation than the situation perhaps requires.
