just finished this month's book club book, went skimming goodreads reviews afterwards as you do, got my breath taken away by this absolutely brutal ending to one of the multi-paragraph 1 star reviews

It's really frustrating how unquestionably self harm vs violence towards others are presented as two equal sides of the same issue when I would argue that those are actually two different issues of wildly different proportions which don't actually benefit from always being presented as two equally significant sides of the same coin, as many mentally ill people self harm while only a small minority ever engages in violence towards other people. Acting like allowing people autonomy in relation to their own bodies and lives is the same thing as allowing anyone to abuse and assault indiscriminately completely misunderstands the core issue of bodily autonomy.
