Just when you thought you'd seen the last of me and HKAU, pull up with the 12th chapter. This has been a long time coming. Teaser under the cut as usual!

Cas was sitting on the couch when Dean slipped through the front door. He took a moment to just appreciate the way the apartment’s soft lighting picked out strands of Cas’ hair or softened his features as he sat writing up recipes in his notebook. Warmth rushed through Dean’s chest and he couldn’t help the smile that tugged at his lips. 

‘Hello, Dean.’ Cas said without looking up. ‘Let me just finish this…’

‘Take your time.’ Dean said, and strolled over to the couch where he put his arm around Cas’ shoulders and planted a kiss on his temple.

Cas’ pen moved across the paper for a while longer, giving Dean a few minutes to just enjoy their quiet proximity; Cas’ warmth against his side, the lazy, familiar way his fingers stroked Cas’ shoulder, the way he had someone to come home to at the end of the day. It all felt so easy. He squeezed Cas’ shoulder gently and relaxed into the sofa cushions, allowing himself for a moment to imagine that this was his real life with Cas in an apartment they shared in the real world. 

‘Done.’ Cas closed the notebook and leaned across Dean to place it on the end table next to the sofa. On the way back, he paused for a moment to kiss Dean’s cheek, then snuggled into Dean’s side. Dean tightened his hold around Cas’ shoulders and pulled him closer, relishing the swooping sensation in his chest. ‘You did such a great job today.’ Cas mumbled against Dean’s chest.

I think "fuck you, I hate your work and I will do it myself and I will do it better" is a really funny and epic sentiment. i started publishing poetry because an ex boyfriend of mine was publishing really ass poetry in a bunch of journals and I was like "Jesus christ, this is garbage, I could do that, and I could do it better." now I have a page in the Academy of American Poets and I've published a full length collection and his website says "former poet." You should win by succeeding way harder than they do. Spite is a legitimate energy source.
