do you have any advice about starting the process for getting your first tattoo?

ya! Under the cut cause I have a lot to say :)

First things first what do you want to get tattooed? Some great places to look for inspiration are Pinterest and instagram. Also research tattoo styles! Here is a great article you can read if you’re new to this. If you know the style you’re looking to get done often times there are tattoo pages on Instagram dedicated to that style, for example traditionalbangers on ig shares a lot of trad pieces and blackworkarchive shares some dope black work and dark art pieces. If you know the subject matter you’re looking to get you can combine that with the style in your search, for example I can Google neotraditional shark tattoo and find a bunch of shark tattoos in the style I want. Collect reference photos in your phone so you can have some inspiration to share with your artist.

Once you have an idea of the tattoo you’d like to get start looking for an artist who’s work matches that style. It’s very important to research your artist. You can find artists in your area by googling tattoo shops and checking out the online portfolios, or searching local tattoo artists on Instagram. When browsing the artists look for pictures of their healed work!!!! For me It’s a red flag if the artist doesn’t share photos of healed tattoos! I also recommend looking at the ratings and reviews online of the shop they work at as well, see what people are saying etc. don’t get tattooed by someone who doesn’t work at a reputable and clean shop pleaseeeee :)

Once you’ve narrowed down your options on artists, you can either set up the appointment online or ask them for an in person consultation to set up the appointment. That way you can meet face to face and explain everything to them in person if you’d like. You can also set up consults by just calling the shop they work at usually. When setting up the appointment give your artist as much detail as possible!!! The main information that we need is 1. What the design is 2. Where on your body you would like to get it 3. What size you’d like it to be (in inches!) 4. What style you would like it to be. I promise you are not being annoying when you do this, the more detail you provide the better they will be able to bring your vision to life. If you’re bad with words or don’t know what the style you like is called send them reference photos so they can get a better idea. Be ready to drop a deposit to secure your appointment and be patient with your artist :) Also!! Do not be offended if the artist refers you to someone else. They are just trying to help you find the right artist for your piece. Just make sure you do a little research on the artist you were referred to before starting the booking process!

Thinking about the Kafka quote “I am constantly trying to communicate something incommunicable, to explain something inexplicable, to tell about something I only feel in my bones and which can only be experienced in those bones”, which I identify with so much, but isn’t the fact that I, among so many others, deeply identify with it contradicting to the statement? He felt like his feelings were incommunicable and yet he communicated them in a way others still relate to 80 years later… is that not so very special and does that not fill you with hope…………

I feel like the angels' trueforms aren't something visible, they're intangible expressions of personal philosophies expressed as waves of light. Like Naomi's trueform would be a hospital fluorescent light, designed to make everything visible but casts everything in a sickly light so innocent variations are seen as flaws while actual problems aren't seen. Cas's trueform would be a cozy campfire glow, capable of causing destruction if handled improperly but it will warm and protect you if treated just right. The reason peoples' eyes burn out is when their own guiding philosophy doesn't line up with the angel's. You can't see how the wind moves (you physically can't, the chances are extremely high that it will burn your eyes and make your ears bleed) but you can see how it uses the vessel to carry out that guiding philosophy. But if your core principles are the same as the angel's, like how what Jimmy really wants is to love his family and protect them, then you're their true vessel, one of those special people who can see and interact with them exactly as they are, and the perfect conduit for them to translate themselves to the world

Both of them look incredible! I have wings on my back I’m letting fade bc I want to expand them instead of touching them up, and I was planning on a geometric or botanical sleeve. I don’t normally shave my pits since it freaks my skin out really badly, that’s been my other concern with them :( I have a feeling it might rule the placement out due to sensitivity, but I have four others so far that have healed with minimal issues (only my wrist did bc turns out I’m reactive to saniderm lmao)

Yeahhhhh it’s one of those spots where if you know your skin is already sensitive I might skip it? The skin is super delicate and thin in the armpit so it can get easily traumatized from the tattoo and on top of that if you’re allergic to saniderm that will just piss off your skin even more! I left my saniderm on for 3 days on my armpit because I didn’t want my skin to scab together. I am also slightly allergic to saniderm, I usually leave mine on for 2 days and then take it off and start caring for the tattoo and I’ve found my skin gets less irritated that way
