In St. Louis Cardinals Catcher Yadier Molina had a pitched ball stick to his chest protector. How much sticky stuff did he apply to the protector for this happen? Somewhere in the rule book this has to be illegal. Anyone going to bring this up?
In Minor league baseball Tim Tebow hits a home run in this first at bat as a professional in a game that counted. This is fun, but did you know that he hit the home run off a pitcher that was drafted #666 back in 2013. That made me think this has to have a good vs evil angle somewhere.
In New York the Braves second baseman Brandon Phillips had his 35 game road, hit streak vs the Mets end when he went 0-4. This streak goes back to Shea Stadium and ended last night at Citi Field. This is an odd streak, but fun to see that this type of information is available. In New York the Braves Left Fielder Matt Kemp hit two solo home runs both were considered no doubters. This was his 8th time in his career that he was able to complete this feat. He had never hit three home runs in one game in the major leagues. The day before Kemp hit three doubles in one game, it was the 2nd time he was able to that in a game. In Houston the Astros Right Fielder George Springer hit his third home run of the season. It was the team’s third game. He is on a three game home run streak. He is also the lead off batter. Typically this position is the batter that can get on then waits for a teammate to send him home. Springer doesn’t need the help and just does it himself. He also made an amazing catch that ended the fifth inning when he went into the stand to catch a foul ball. If he keeps this pace up he will hit 162 homers and keep lots of fans from taking home souvenirs. I was just thinking that how many stadiums still use chalk to outline the batters box? The Tampa Bay Rays do and when players come sliding across home plate you get the cloud of white chalk flying. It is fun to watch and probably not fun to slide through. Most stadiums are using the spray paint for outlines on the field. Even in Tee ball they use the spray paint on fields. Keep up the old school Tampa even though you are the newest team in the league. In Baltimore the Toronto Blue Jays reliever Jason Grilli threw his fastball at 95 mph. He is 40 years old. I am sure it is not a record, but it is impressive. I was just thinking if I tried to even throw a ball normal my shoulder may blow again and the torn labrum I had ten years ago would near reconstruction. Way to go Grillicheese. He also picked up the save. The Minnesota Twins started the season off 3-0 for the first time since 2007. The bullpen has not given up a run in 10 innings and the young players are playing well. Is this indicative of a good team or that the team they played is not very good? They were playing the Kansas City Royal who just won the World Series in 2015. What are you thinking? In Washington, D.C. the Nationals Right Fielder Bryce Harper made a no look catch on a line drive hit into the gap. He was blinded by the sun and placed his glove into the correct position for the catch. I was just thinking how lucky or hard that would be to happen more than once. In Oakland the Los Angeles Angels Center Fielder Mike Trout made an error on a routine ball. Trout is considered by many to be the best in the game. When he was unable to pick the ball up off the ground I was thinking that can’t happen very often. Well, it is very uncommon. In 692 games played in Center Field the error was his 12th. The two time MVP will be fine. In Cincinnati the Reds used a pinch hitter for a pitcher. That is usually the case for teams that have pitchers hitting. Teams replace the pitchers with hitters all the time. This time was unusual in that the team used another pitcher to hit for the current pitcher. The pinch hitting pitcher hits a home run. The pitcher/pinch hitter is named Michael Lorenzen was a designated hitter in college at Cal State Fullerton. In Arizona the Diamondbacks did an unusual thing last night. The teams second and third place hitters hit home runs in back to back at bats. This happens occasionally, but this one was unique in that both batters it home runs to the opposite field and both went very far over the fence. In Houston the Astros Second Baseman looks even smaller than last season. I was just thinking this was strange because he is listed at 5’6” and weighs 165 lbs. Yet he looks like he is smaller than what he was last season when he was an all star player. The comeback player of the year award so far goes to Greg Holland of the Colorado Rockies. The reliever missed all of last year recovering from surgery. In his return he has saved three games for the Rockies. The Rockies are 3-1 so far on the season. Keep it going Greg and stay healthy.
