sometimes i have a certain kind of dream, where for one reason or another, im back home. somewhere i used to live, worn down and old, but with everything still in place. there's usually bugs, debris, and a draft from empty doorframes, but sometimes.. my mom is there. a younger version of her, still living like nothing is different, though sometimes making an offhand comment about being sorry for the mess. greeting me and pulling me into her arms. there's even food in the fridge. and i go into my own room, what once was one of my safe spaces, still intact, still how i left it. usually infested, worn down, everything dusty, the sort. but it's still there. it's still my room. my space. no matter how bad it is. my bed, even unusable, remains there for me. even if i have not slept there in years.

Oh, how I wish things could just stay in place forever.. I wish they never had to disappear.
