next time you encounter something confusing, try using your fan fiction reading device to access websites like "wikipedia" or "miriam webster" to break down those pesky difficult topics. its sorta like a "enemies to lovers" situation, where the scary new knowledge can become your friend - and then you won't look so unflattering when you comment
I'd prefer we don't discourage people from commenting on fic. I love every comment I get, even the confused ones.
"Preemptive assholery" is not a good look on you.
Not to explain the joke and ruin it but I've seen a couple people mention this or some variation - this is not abt commenting on fan fiction. I am not talking about confusion related to something read in fan fiction. This is about real life and using your unlimited internet access to educate yourselves and learn about the world around you and its intricacies.
You have arrived in the garb of a cardboard cutout.
How are you people even managing to successfully read fanfiction when this is the level of comprehension you manage to derive from a tumblr post under 60 words long. Do you just open ao3 and then Imagine
Story time! a few years ago my grandma found out that my sibling is nonbinary. Sibling was nervous at first bc it was an accident, and even tho our grandma fully accepted me as a trans guy, she presumably had no idea what being nb or genderfluid meant. and to an extent the sib was right—she was totally unaware that those concepts existed when we agreed to meet for lunch that day
but. but. she brought a full on PACKET of printed research and a pen. and asked questions. she took honest to god notes.
so anyway. thank you Grammy for loving your grandkids unconditionally. the feeling is mutual 💕
Grammy, squinting at her papers: “what’s this word mean? ‘nibling?’”
sibling: “so ‘pibling’ is the gender neutral word for aunt/uncle, like ‘parent’s sibling’, then ‘nibling’ is a play on that by taking the ‘n’ from niece/nephew, so—“
Grammy: “—so you’re my gribling?”
sibling: “Huh?”
Grammy: “like granddaughter or grandson”
Sibling: “Grammy—“
Grammy: “or is ‘grandthey’ better?”
Sibling: “you could just say—“
Grammy: “I just want to get it right for you because—“
Sibling: “GRANDCHILD”
Grammy: “…”
so anyway she still calls them gribling. and it’s wonderful
This is fucking adorable.
The absolute contempt for these locks is palpable.
my favorite x files episodes are when mulder and scully join a taskforce of Normal FBI Agents on a Normal FBI Operation like busting an organized crime ring or smth. Like imagine you're a normal bureaucrat at your federal cop job and there's two insanely attractive people whispering to each other in the corner of the conference room and you're like "hey who's that" and your coworker tells you "oh that's the Bigfoot division" and you're like "but we're busting an organized crime ring" and then the tall guy speaks up and is like "oh yeah this crime ring is being led by bigfoot. btw"
Men will literally study Paracelsus, translate 1600s alchemical texts and distill potions for melancholy before going to therapy
Ok but legit the actual video is so good and goes pretty in depth of how they actually did it. It was a "potion for melancholy" and he explains some history behind it, including how much knowledge they really did have about certain plants and herbs and the benefits behind them. It goes into the process of This Particular way of extracting those plants properties(oils and stuff I think through distillation??). Pleeaaaaase go watch it if it sounds even slightly interesting to you. And he also does really try it.
Honestly just go listen to some of his videos. He's great.
This is my legit favorite YouTuber. His entire channel is scholarly discussions on ancient and medieval religions, magic, the occult, and philosophy. he literally has a PhD in this stuff and provides a ton of information on how to find resources for further reading on topics
The Facebook algorithm has started recommending me a page called "Death Stairs and I
yeah they sure are
I really thought this was going to have an inspirational ending. And it certainly did.

The best scene in Legend of Korra is the one guy who asks to take a picture of Korra for his “Wall of Avatars” which consists of one photo of Aang.
