Pleasantries (Lilly, Hanako, and Hymndi)
Hymndi leaned forward, resting his arms on the table, his eyes gazing around the room. “Huh? Oh, if I need anything I’ll get it. No need to tear you away from the game. If you need anything though, I will get it for you.” He didn’t make eye contact with either of them as they spoke, feeling like he really didn’t need to. As he finished his examination of the room he smiled softly to himself. This was a nice room and it seemed like it wasn’t used at all aside from these two. He began to wonder how many rooms there were in this school that were exactly like this one. Leaning back in to the wheelchair he folded his arms, his mind wandering to the question of if he could find his own secret room away from the rest of the world. He shook his head, clearing his mind, turning his attention back to the fact that he was not alone.
The soft clacking of the pieces falling in to place drew Hymndi’s eyes to the board. He was impressed to see Lilly putting the pieces in the correct places with such speed, especially since… He stopped himself from that thought, his face turning a slight red hue as he became embarrassed and angry at himself for even thinking along those lines. He let out a soft sigh, deciding to try not to be too harsh on himself and to focus on the game about to take place. “Good luck to the both of you. I can’t wait to see who wins.” The words flew out of his mouth before he processed them. Oh well, at least these words weren’t going to get him in to trouble.
She didn’t say much, only nodding in agreement with Lilly’s words to Hymndi and giving him a slight lingering glance before turning her focus toward the chess board. Hanako was already contemplating her opening move. It was a slight change, but it made all the difference in play style. White acts, and Black re-acts, hoping to overcome. Going first meant the pressure of controlling the flow of the game, keeping yourself one step ahead. Still, Hanako couldn’t help but occasionally flicker her gaze over to Hymndi, as he took in the humble room. There was something familiar in his expression. How he saw the sanctuary in this out of the way place. His sigh and words triggered the unofficial secondary hostess in her. She wanted to explain he was a guest and it was no trouble at all to fetch refreshments. The game would still be there. It wasn’t high stakes or anything that required full concentration, all that Hanako managed was a rousing “N-no,it’s…fine…we can…” Hanako bit her bottom lip, and turned back to the board. First move. “D…D four..” She stated to her opponent across the table, before moving her pawn.
"Don't be silly, Hymndi. You're our guest! And I for one will never compromise the comfort of a guest. So feel free to bother us if you need anything. Besides, the both of us aren't timing each other; this is but a friendly match." Lilly smiled at the boy before focusing back to the chessboard.
All her attention to Hymndi soon faded as Lilly focused on the game. "D five," she declared and mirrored, moving her own pawn in front of Hanako's to block it. She pulled the piece up and, using the specialized pegs in the board, sunk it back onto her intended square. It wasn't much of a move, nothing too out of the ordinary, but it was a solid start for both of them.
