My name is Kate Salt. I started writing things I like about music a couple of months ago. I've decided I enjoy doing that. Here are some things that I have been listening to recently. Just so everybody knows, this is a thing. American Idiot was well received, but how well would Panic! The Musical go?! Fortunately we have people like Alexis Acar who can lead that experiment for us. It seems reception has been good thus far, but I'm not sure that will spread far enough. As my sister so gently put it 'Why does everyone want to ruin any good thing that comes about???' Brilliant. I'm cynical, but really, since when was the next need of the world to put Panic! At the Disco on yet another stage?

I've not been following the whole Ronnie VS Craig thing properly. I just know that this man must have gone through a pretty traumatising time to come up with this shit. What the hell man? You used to be cool.

It's crazy to see this rowdy lot on such a big stage! I met them in Brighton at The Great Escape Festival back in 2012 when they'd taken the initiative to come down from Manchester and set up on the street whilst most of Londons top notch music-y type people were in town. They took to my liking straight away and after a fair amount of alcohol consumption they ended up sleeping in my living room that night.

The next year they came back down for the festival and we had another couple of wonderfully drunken nights after their hard days work busking in the beautiful town I call home. The main thing I love about this band is that they are genuinely writing and playing something different. Every band says they're unique but are generally churning out the same bland indie-rock as everybody else.

I'm glad they seem to be having a great time wherever it is they are and this time I'm loving Joe's swanky new haircut! It's a blessing to see Abi on an actual drum kit for the first time and Pete's guitar tone is magnificent. It's the space in between the notes after all.. isn't it..

I’ve never been a follower of anything math metal or progressive metal or whatever this kind of music is classed as and even whilst writing this I’m feeling a little bit out of my depth. I’m not gonna get technical, because that’s not what I know.

It’s only very recently, a couple months or so before new lead vocalist Ashe O’Hara was announced, that I’ve even known that TesseracT exist as a band. I was introduced by a friend who has become very close to me in an incredibly short period of time and it’s opened almost like a Pandora’s Box of new music for me. I can’t decide whether it’s all the evils or if any good can come from it though, hah. For that reason this band will never stray far from my heart, it’s a friendship I wouldn’t change for the world.

Anyway, TesseracT. These guys have seriously impressed me with their technical skills and professionalism. When they're not looking up pictures of cute cats online they are striving for musical perfection and with every endeavour getting somewhat closer to that goal. From what I've heard so far that's exactly what they're doing with upcoming release Altered State and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy when it comes out 27th May.

It's exciting to be excited about something different. My world has been so centred around Pop-punk and Powerpop for God knows how long that it's about time I crank up some Metal. Altered State is much more than that though, it's so cultured and the influences stem wide. I would say that it's just a seriously intricate melting pot. Every second is carefully thought out and the mastery of the musicians behind it is clear as a pain of glass. A squeaky clean one that is. Just listen to this band.

I'm rekindling my love for this album today. It saw me through secondary school and I'll never forget it. I just think it's quite funny the amount of lyrics that I had no clue about. There's some really clever writing on here and I completely missed it. Mostly because I was too young for the concepts at the time. My favourite now is probably I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me. Haha, they had the longest song titles. I just love the cold sarcasm of the whole thing. I'm the first kid to write of hearts, lies, and friends And I am sorry my conscience called in sick again And I've got arrogance down to a science Oh, and I'm the first kid to write of hearts, lies, and friends. Something else I've learnt is that Chad Gilbert did the backing vocals to this, which is awesome. That's something I never would have been able to pick out before. I'm going to give Save Rock & Roll a full listen for the first time and see what has really become of them. From Under The Cork Tree.. Progress report: I am missing you to death.

I haven't listened to these guys in a while. They were one of the main reasons I ever got into music and although they've had so many member changes (mostly concerning the drums) and an incredible amount of development in sound over the years, I can still relate to them as the same band I heard back in 2002. While we're on the subject, it's really sad to see Ethan Luck depart from the band. I loved his work on Forget and Not Slow Down and it's probably my favourite release from the band so far. Relient K never fail to make me smile and yet again they've delivered. Fortunately this doesn't seem to be any sort of reference to Doctor Who and this will probably be my summer anthem. I get a real sense of Aaron Gillespie and The Almost from this song actually, but they're in a completely different direction themselves at the moment. I really can't wait for the release of Collapsible Lung in July and I'm glad the band are back on the scene with new music, it's been 4 years since their last original record. Mental.

The Great Escape's coming to town! We're sifting through the list at Brighton Noise. I'm probably most excited for Title Fight. Are there any hardcore punkers in Brighton? I’ve been coming across more and more since I got here, but I’ve still not found anything that matches up to Title Fight. Hailing from Kingston PA, these guys really know how to kill it. I had the pleasure of seeing them play a show in London near the end of 2011 (can’t believe how long ago it was!) and they just looked so indifferent whilst beating the shit out of their equipment. Fantastic. Generally when The Great Escape comes around it’s like a search for a needle in a haystack to find some bands that I’ve actually heard of previously. I was overjoyed when I saw these guys on the list. I can’t wait to see them destroy it at Concorde II in May. Listen to 27 and Numb, But I Still Feel It

Rise Records Signs Emily's Army (Drummer Is Billie Joe Amstrong's Son)

I've not really been posting much on here, but I want to change that. I'm hoping to start being consistent and just post small things that I'm listening to and that are inspiring me. I've been pretty excited by some of the lineup announcements for 2000Trees and my mate Jimmy's been feeding me his new suggestions as ever. Right now this band are in my heart. Especially due to the bombings at the Boston Marathon the other day. Such a distressing and heartbreaking situation. I was first introduced to Transit by my sister with an acoustic track called Outbound, but they never became a significant band to me until I was told (over and over again) to listen to their debut album by another friend. I'm glad I did. I managed to meet them at a show in London and they were really chilled out and friendly. They signed the album I bought for my friend. That meant a lot to me. I really wasn't sure about Young New England when I first put it on, it didn't seem to be as hooky as their previous record Listen & Forgive (which is probably one of my favourite albums ever now). However something caught my attention in track three (the title track) and I gave it a chance. I think whatever this band do they are always going to find a way to wiggle themselves into my heart. Just listen to it.

The fond memories I have (thanks for those by the way FOB) of my teenage years have gone through a bit of a whirlwind in the past month or so.

WIth the sad and probably slightly anticipated departure of My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy incinerating pop-punk in their quest to ‘Save Rock and Roll’ by slowly turning into an R&B band, (and not a very good one at that) it’s actually Paramore that have shone through for me.

Paramore have changed just as much as Fall Out Boy have in regards to their genre, but the fact that Hayley Williams is the only remaining member somehow makes it acceptable. That and that Paramore haven’t strayed so far that it’s alienated their original loyal fans. I just don’t believe that the members of Fall Out Boy should still be putting out records under that name, because they’re not who they were and because of this neither is their music.

Paramore (the record) is incredibly diverse with elements of everything from garage rock to gospel. There are some pretty unique new computery noises being experimented with from start to finish on this release which is pretty cool too. The offbeat hi-hat pretty much sets out the record with a real edge, although it’s only prominently featured on the first couple of tracks. I suppose I feel a new lease of life when I hear this, although tracks like Part II draw on their previous work.

I’ve chosen to put Grow Up as the track to listen to. I’ve had to make some hard decisions in the past couple months. One in particular. This track just reminds me of that I suppose. It’s an important lesson to learn anyway and it may just be my soundtrack for the year. If anything I wish it’d been released sooner. ‘Some of us have to grow up sometimes, and so if I have to I’m gonna leave you behind.’ It’s groovy and catchy as hell too.

My sister also pointed out how much Aint It Fun sounds like a Demi Lovato track. Additionally.. Has Hayley Williams been listening to Julia Nunes? Interlude: Moving On
